Gay Magazines In The US

Are there any left? There's many in the UK, and they're actually good! Has the medium died off in the US?

by Anonymousreply 1805/16/2013

Print media in general is dying off in the US.

by Anonymousreply 105/16/2013

I have nowhere to look at magazines anymore.

by Anonymousreply 205/16/2013

OUT is still struggling along and I think there's one other one - Instinct, maybe? I have no idea how they survive. I've been receiving OUT for free for years somehow and even for free I don't read it.

Americans can read?

There was one funny moment in the unfunny Ellen sitcom where she was asking a guy in the store where the gay magazines were, he said, "in the porno section!".

Sadly that is still true, in many shops they are put on the top shelf alongside porn. It doesn't help that they have scantily clad/naked guys on there mind you. The UK ones follow the lads mags like FHM in that respect.

I admit I never really read the gay magazines. I just looked at the pictures, and I can find those same pictures at no cost on the Internet.

I think a website might be better nowadays. Is the Advocate still printing? It still might be hard to compete with the blogs, which seem to get information 24 hours before it happens.

Playgirl will print an issue and within 5 minutes the centerfold is free online. You can't blame the publications for ceasing production. It's not profitable any more.

"Print media in general is dying off in the US."

This is the one trend that I truly hate.

Details is still available on newsstands.

by Anonymousreply 905/16/2013

You can subscribe to Details, but they send it with those stench strips -- they say they won't, but they do -- so I canceled.

by Anonymousreply 1005/16/2013

Instinct is still around. They just got a new editor and it's worse (and more pointless) than ever...

by Anonymousreply 1105/16/2013

Do they still have porno magazines? I thought the internet killed them off as well.

by Anonymousreply 1205/16/2013

OUT and The Advocate are still around. Both are nothing more than lifestyle magazines for upscale gay men.

by Anonymousreply 1305/16/2013

r10, what are "stench strips?" Do you mean cologne ads? Are you allergic or just a special snowflake?

by Anonymousreply 1405/16/2013

Top ten

[quote]Details is still available on newsstands.

It's also available for the iPad. It's not strictly a gay magazine. It's another form of GQ Magazine, completely straight.
