Man dribbling soccer ball from Seattle to Brazil gets hit by car in Oregon, dies

Well, it hardly seems to have been worth it, does it?

by Anonymousreply 3805/22/2013

What does Forest Gump have to say about all this?

by Anonymousreply 105/14/2013

Sad that he'll never achieve his G O O O A A A A L L L L L !

by Anonymousreply 205/14/2013

Ironically, the driver was using a hands-free device.

by Anonymousreply 305/14/2013

I guess he went out of bounds.

by Anonymousreply 405/14/2013

Tha's jus' turble.

by Anonymousreply 505/14/2013

Momma always said not to play in the street

by Anonymousreply 605/14/2013

I guess keep your eye on the ball, didn't apply here

by Anonymousreply 705/14/2013

Hit by a car? That's hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 805/14/2013

The stupidest fucking idea ever!!!

by Anonymousreply 905/14/2013

Well at least it happened early, so we didnt have to keep following his 'inspirationl' journey on GMA. And I'm relieved it wasn't in one of the Latin American countries so Fox could get all racist about it.

by Anonymousreply 1005/14/2013

Poor kid. Trying to survive by doing something different.

by Anonymousreply 1105/15/2013

"The driver has not been charged". Well I hope that he is: with vehicular homicide or some damn thing. I have to say that as many people as I've encountered on the streets in my life, I've never killed any of them.

by Anonymousreply 1205/15/2013

R12. We can't help they you don't try hard enough.

by Anonymousreply 1305/15/2013

That not they

by Anonymousreply 1405/15/2013

[quote]Poor kid. Trying to survive by doing something different.

He was 42, and he wasn't doing it to survive.

by Anonymousreply 1505/15/2013

Oh great! Another nominee!

by Anonymousreply 1605/15/2013

Just saved us from hearing about his beheading or kidnapping in Mexico or Central America.

by Anonymousreply 1705/15/2013

Maybe he didn't realize that it was okay to stop dribbling to get out of the way of a moving car.

by Anonymousreply 1805/15/2013

If he only had a GUN!!

by Anonymousreply 1905/15/2013

Damn, putting R2 into wit and wisdom has thrown off the spacing on the page.

by Anonymousreply 2005/16/2013

Ugh! R19? It's just not funny or clever or punchy anymore.

How many threads have you posted that in today? I've seen at least three. Seriously, throttle back a little bit. It's become kinda lame.

by Anonymousreply 2105/16/2013

I didn't know pedestrians were allowed on US-101.

by Anonymousreply 2205/16/2013

Good effort, r21, but r19 is one of those desperate sad sacks who spews mildly funny (rarely) to downright pathetic (usually) little jokes all day, hoping against hope that something will make it to WW (where one of his dumb posts is currently messing up the board and annoying everyone who's not using Chrome or Firefox).

by Anonymousreply 2305/16/2013

This is somehow Obama's fault

by Anonymousreply 2405/16/2013

R23, why don't you go back into your sissy pumps and complain to a wall. Something is wrong with sulfurous comments from whiney people like you.

by Anonymousreply 2505/16/2013

It was an . . . interesting idea, but wonder how he planned to dribble that ball across Panama's Darien Gap (an 87 km. barrier of rainforest that prevents the North American Pan-American Highway from being connected to the Southern Pan-American Highway).

by Anonymousreply 2605/16/2013

This story has been handled very delicately here (Seattle) which of course one would expect. We are all feeling a strange ironic humorous sadness and saying very little.

by Anonymousreply 2705/16/2013

Fuck you schoolmarm @ R23. I thought R19 was funny. We don't ALL read every single thread scouring DL for duplicate references.

by Anonymousreply 2805/17/2013

Now they can just shorten the headline to "Man, dribbling".

by Anonymousreply 2905/17/2013

All just so a bunch of soccer balls could be delivered to third world kids? He really thought that was all they needed?

by Anonymousreply 3005/17/2013

[quote]Fuck you schoolmarm @ [R23]. I thought [R19] was funny. We don't ALL read every single thread scouring DL for duplicate references.

Hey, man, it was r21, not I, who commented on the duplicate references. All I had to do was trolldar r19 in THIS thread to see his desperate, flailing attempts to be funny light up all over the thread. I can only guess that he's done the same in other threads (but I'm pretty sure my guess would be correct, especially given his butthurt little mini-rant at r25).

by Anonymousreply 3105/17/2013

R26 beat me to it. The logistics of it were an impossible feat from the beginning. If he wasn't run over in western Oregon, he would have been kidnapped, killed or worse in the Darién Gap by either the insurgent guerrillas or the who's who of dangerous animals in the jungle.

by Anonymousreply 3205/17/2013

R31, you are perfectly welcome to display any wit or levity you may have here---if you HAVE any. We think not.

by Anonymousreply 3305/17/2013

Well if he'd made it to New York he'd have gotten mugged and killed anyway and if he'd made it to Brazil they might have confiscated the ball as a weapon but somebody should have told him about that Oregon traffic and the fact that soccer isn't their sport. He should have swatted a baseball!

by Anonymousreply 3405/18/2013

"All just so a bunch of soccer balls could be delivered to third world kids? He really thought that was all they needed?"

Of course he didn't think that was all they needed. He thought that deprived kids in these countries would enjoy having balls to play soccer with and of course they would have. He was just trying to do something to make these kid's lives better.

Although what he was doing sounds kind of silly it no doubt have brought attention to his cause. He was trying to help.

I think this is very sad. He was trying to do a good thing for poor kids. And he gets killed by some clod in a pickup truck.

by Anonymousreply 3505/18/2013

What could be worse than death?

by Anonymousreply 3605/19/2013

A lesbian menage-a-trois with Sanford And Son's Aunt Esther and Married With Children's Al Bundy's mother-in-law!But he could have carried some food and water to Brazil! They neet that more!
