He's a fantastic actor and is very hot, but I think the poor dear doesn't have very much luck.
Why do you think Paul Bettany's career not take off?

He's cute. Maybe because he's a ginge?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||05/07/2013|
He's an albino.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||05/07/2013|
He is OK looking, not hot.

See "Wimbledon" in which he stars opposite Kirsten Dunst. It may answer some questions for you.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||05/07/2013|
Because he's a ginger. I dare you to name a ginger A-lister.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||05/07/2013|
I think when he played that weird priest in The DaVinci Code was the clincher.

Oh, no, he's beautiful in real life and I think it translates almost as well on screen.
Plus he has a delightfully funny personality and I find him very sexy.
I also don't think he is as ambitious as some. But still he's been a member of AMPAS since around 2004.

Bettany has always been a serious actor, not much interested in the cult of celebrity. He likes acting, but he has never pandered,never wanted to do things to make himself more marketable.
He's a character actor. He loves those kinds of roles. But he is not box office. No one's going to run out and see a Paul Bettany movie. I liked him in that horror movie about the wicked angels and the people at the diner.

R8 I should have specified, a MALE ginger A-lister.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||05/07/2013|
David Caruso was an "almost" A lister!!
|by Anonymous||reply 11||05/07/2013|
The most famous ginger I can think of is that dude from Homeland.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||05/07/2013|
He has a hot ass, but it wasn't enough.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||05/07/2013|
He's married to Jennifer Connelly she's dull as dishwater.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||05/07/2013|
R14, I doubt there is a straight man alive who will agree with you.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||05/07/2013|
He'll have a long steady career-- He'll be acting well into his senior years. Like Ian Mckellan or Patrick Stewart.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||05/07/2013|
It's because he has no eyebrows
Why do you think terrible actors like Emilia Clarke can be successful and be seen everywhere? Eyebrows. You can think I'm talking shit, but the next time you see someone who is inexplicably successful, notice whether it not they have eyebrows.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||05/07/2013|
Who cares about eyebrows?
|by Anonymous||reply 18||05/07/2013|
he hasnt given up enough hole yet.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||05/07/2013|
He is bland and forgettable. He has no "IT" factor.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||05/07/2013|
He's doing well in supporting roles, and the way he's going he can keep working as a character actor until he's old and gray. That's a better career than the short reign of a big star.
Still... I still wonder if the failure of the big-budget "Master and Commander" derailed his career as a leading man. He totally missed the boat with that role, and hasn't starred in a major film since.

If he could have been, he would have been and that's showbiz baby!
|by Anonymous||reply 22||05/07/2013|
Because I am a better singer
|by Anonymous||reply 23||05/07/2013|
He may not be an actor, but he sure as hell is an A lister: Harry Wales. The hottest ginger of all time.
I find Paul Bettany just icky.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||05/07/2013|
I agree, a combination of lacking the ambition and inability to find appropriate roles. Plus I also think he enjoys the life he has. He's a terrific actor. He may never be a huge star but he will always be employable.
