Galveston, Texas

by Anonymousreply 2505/08/2013

OP, Galveston is one of my favorite places in the world, but it doesn't have the world's best beach by a long shot.

by Anonymousreply 105/06/2013

R1, were you dropped your head as a child?

by Anonymousreply 205/06/2013

No, but I did grow up in Houston.

by Anonymousreply 305/06/2013

Here's a better pic of Galveston.

by Anonymousreply 405/06/2013

Seriously you consider this the best beach in the US? Ok, I won't tell you my pick, no need to send more people there!

black's beach. beautiful...and nude!

by Anonymousreply 705/06/2013

I lived in Galveston, the beach was brown and polluted most of the year. sometimes red tide was so strong the infirm would have to wear masks in public.

check out flamenco beach puerto rico

by Anonymousreply 905/06/2013

OP is ridiculous.

The best beach, of course, is Moonshine Beach in Branson, Missouri.

by Anonymousreply 1005/06/2013

Tampon beach, OP? Or should we call it dirty diaper beach. Been grazed by both on separate occasions while in Galveston. That place is vile.

by Anonymousreply 1105/06/2013

R1 is absolutely right. Galveston is lovely but it shouldn't be anywhere near a "best beach" list.

by Anonymousreply 1205/06/2013

Galveston has some fab historical gothic revival mansions though and the famed Balinese Room was a real hot spot back in the day. Ike took it out permanently. I work down there and am actually surprised how pretty the water is right now. The summer heat will make it worse though.

by Anonymousreply 1305/06/2013

Well, on the plus side if frolicking in the waves isn't your thing the parking situation looks damn convenient.

by Anonymousreply 1405/06/2013

R11: they are called "beach whistles."

by Anonymousreply 1505/06/2013

The one with ME, silly!

by Anonymousreply 1605/06/2013

Anywhere in Florida is better OP. Or Corpus Christie. Or anywhere in California. Or anywhere. Just anywhere.

Got sent to Galveston for 3 months for work, it was a horrible, horrible experience. Hated the place with a passion. Maybe it's been colored by my experience of the people I met but it remains in my memory as a shithole that I would nominate as the first trial target of an orbital missile.

Galveston looks dirty.

Nothing like Seaside, Florida

by Anonymousreply 1905/06/2013

OP was being sarcastic even though his photo failed to show the big oil clots which have always been a feature of the beach there.

by Anonymousreply 2005/06/2013

I loved the beach where I laid Blanche out to melt while I melted down.

by Anonymousreply 2105/07/2013

I won a People's Choice award for Best Beach.

No, wait . . .

by Anonymousreply 2205/07/2013

Galveston doesn't have oil clots.

by Anonymousreply 2305/07/2013

Oh no, not Galveston (see link)

by Anonymousreply 2405/08/2013

My favorite beach is in the expensive little town of Carmel, Ca. Astonishingly white sand, little bay surrounded by mountains and Monterey pine forests, lovely twee downtown Carmel up the hill, and never crowded.

Of course you can't swim in the freezing water and the air is so cold you'll be wearing a fleece rather than a speedo for most of the year, but it's beautiful.
