Al Corley's "Square Rooms"

[italic]Whoa-oh-oh-oah, square rooms,

Whoa-oh-oh-oah, square roo-ooms,

They don't listen, they don't care,

If a man is in despa-air![/italic]

The song is classic '80s Eurodisco cheese (and very catchy), but what do the lyrics mean? Aren't almost ALL rooms square rooms?

He should have never quit Dynasty.

Al was a nice, hot dude.

He has no one to talk to alone in his room. The end is clearly using Carly Simon's images from some album of his. He dated Simon. She must have dumped him and stopped sending the checks.

If you happen to own this CD, hang onto it or sell it for a profit. It's long out of print and goes for $50-100 on the second-hand market.

His followup, "Cold Dresses" (why???), was a hit in France but didn't even register in America.

The video is pretty funny -- Al is in full New Romantic hair and makeup and his dancing is indescribable.

He & Carly used to smoke pot and go out to the video store on Columbus Ave. in the 80s.

Finde, a Mexico City pop-punk band, covered "Square Rooms" a few years ago. The song works surprisingly well in this style.

I've heard better... like this:

(Mireille Mathieu & Patrick Duffy - "Together We're Strong")

Maybe the lyrics were Al`s answer to Nik Kershaw`s `The Riddle`.

How is Carly? Is she still bankrupt?
