So if Kate Jackson had been allowed to do Kramer Versus Kramer...

how would her career have changed....and how would Meryls?

by Anonymousreply 1805/14/2013

This is an apostrophe.

If you're not going to use it appropriately, stick it up your bum.

Did Kate put in any good performances? Strange they'd go for her, but then it was a Dustin vehicle.

M would have been cast as Tiffany Welles on "Charlie's Angels," thereby depriving the world of the artistry of Shelley Hack.

Meryl would have ended up auditioning for Vanessa Chamberlain on Guiding Light instead and winning the role over her sister in law Maeve. Meryl would become one of daytime's most beloved faces although not QUITE as acclaimed as Susan Lucci or Viki Sleestack.

That's a world I don't want to live in, R3.

by Anonymousreply 505/04/2013

Would it have been better with Shelley Hack?

omg there is more than one of us!!!

Pleased to meet you.

Not getting Kramer v Kramer wouldn't have hurt Streep much, as she had been nominated for an Oscar for Deer Hunter and had many other projects going.

If Kate had Kramer and had done a credible job, she likely would have had a much better career.

She was already on the rise. She did Woody Allen's "Manhatten", "The Deer Hunter", the "Holocaust" TV miniseries, etc. at about the same time, and was already a critical fave, if not a flavor of the month.

[quote]If Kate had Kramer and had done a credible job, she likely would have had a much better career.

Perhaps, but her batshit craziness would've doomed it to a brief one. That woman just ain't right.

If Kate Jackson played the part, Jane Alexander would be holding the Oscar for supporting actress that year.

by Anonymousreply 1105/04/2013

Oh, please. She would have been fired. Dustin Hoffman would realize very early on that she didn't have the depth which was required for the role. He had Gail Strickland fired and replaced by Jane Alexander for the same reason.

Dustin Hoffman wanted Joan Lunden for the part of the attorney.

I'm not kidding, Joan wrote about it in her autobiography.

Dustin told her at the meeting about the part, and having to do a nude scene.

Joan stopped him right there and said no thanks.

Is Kate really that crazy? Or did she just get tired of the limelight? (She did two successful long running tv shows).

She was supposed to have an autobiography coming out, but it got cancelled.

R12 Kate was a VERY hot property at the time, and a big name. I doubt Dustin would have had the ability to singlehandedly get her fired, as much of an raging egomaniac as he was at the time.

by Anonymousreply 1505/04/2013

It wouldn't have changed a thing. Kate Jackson is an actress only in the broadest sense of the word.

by Anonymousreply 1605/04/2013

The movie may have bombed.

by Anonymousreply 1705/04/2013

R15, Hoffman was a huge star by then, are you kidding? Of course he could have gotten Jackson fired.
