Maryland Abolishes The Death Penalty
Maryland became the 18th state to abolish the death penalty Thursday, as Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) signed the bill he vied for into law. The law will not affect five prisoners currently on death row, but O’Malley will consider whether to commute their sentences, according to the Associated Press.
While Maryland is the sixth state to eliminate the penalty in as many years and the first to do so south of the Mason Dixon line, other southern states are headed in the opposite direction. Florida just passed a bill (not yet signed into law) to speed up the death penalty, with legislators saying, “this is not about guilt or innocence,” while Mississippi is slated to execute an inmate next week without having tested available DNA from the crime scene. Nonetheless, the general trend away from the death penalty may have constitutional implications.

"And yet you back abortion"
Like that's not a totally separate issue.
Be gone, freeper.

You kill a human
You kill a cat in a shelter
You kill a baby
Draw the line.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||05/02/2013|
abortions aren't babies, nor are they death-row convicts.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||05/02/2013|
What is an abortion if not a baby?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||05/02/2013|
Countries that execute the most people = China, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia.
'Nuff said, freeper troll!

R9. You are willing to kill the most innocent of our species and not kill the most evil. How does that work?

"You are willing to kill the most innocent of our species and not kill the most evil. How does that work?"
If you like the death penalty so much you should just move to Iran

Maryland has gone mega liberal these past few years. And to think it borders West Va.
Too bad O'Malley fucked up his convention speech.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||05/02/2013|
R11. It hank you. I knew no one would bother to answer the question.

There was an interesting article in the NYTimes last year which postulated the current decline in serious felony crimes (non-drug related, felony/100,000 persons), is directly related to the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, 40 years ago.
The millions of aborted babies in America beginning in 1973 and extending to now primarily represented the abortions of the poor, uneducated, people of color, in short pregnancies of a group of people least likely to be able to give the child a nourishing environment and a life away from crime.
I didn't make this up.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||05/02/2013|
Here is one of the studies on that subject
|by Anonymous||reply 16||05/02/2013|
That theory has been debunked multiple times. So I'm surprised that the NYT would write a story about this theory as recently as last year.

@r8, no wonder Mexicans are taking over this country.

Maryland is a cesspool. The only thing that saves Md, is it that it borders the nation's capital.
@R13 Ultra-liberal is not always a good thing. Baltimore is just sad.

r17's link is to the National Right to Life. lmao The article writers are the members of the National Right to Life.
GET GOING TROLL!
Honestly, I'm convinced that people find DL threads via keyword search through Google and start spouting their nonsense here. They probably don't even know they're on a gay web site.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||05/02/2013|
R21, I hate to be the one to inform you, but you aren't very bright. Your inability to 1) Comprehend that the paper linked at R17 was written by a Yale professor and an Australian economist and not by National Right To Life is embarrassing. 2) The fact that you are bringing up a theory that has been debunked SEVERAL times over the past decade, a theory that I'm sure everyone on this site with a working brain knows has been debunked, a theory that even the author of the theory admitted that there were grave errors in his data collection, thus proving that the theory has be roundly debunked. Deal with the facts, dear.
'Freakonomics' Abortion Research Is Faulted by a Pair of Economists

Did Steven Levitt, author of “Freakonomics”, get his most notorious paper wrong?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||05/02/2013|
r22 has limited time left on DL, so let it have its fun.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||05/03/2013|
Also, you didn't link 'the paper'. You linked an article written by National Right to Life, which at the end, linked an article it was using for its propaganda. You outed yourself as a feces-eating Right winger. You should have just linked to that exact article. You linked yourself to a propaganda network. You made this way too easy.
[quote]2) The fact that you are bringing up a theory that has been debunked SEVERAL times over the past decade
And no, it hasn't. It's been debunked in the minds of un-medicated freaks such as yourself.
DL is anti-Right wing, so it's time for you to leave... doesn't matter if you do or you don't though. WM will be blocking your IP within 24 hrs. hahaha!
BTW, linking to The Wall Street Journal (Right wing), doesn't help make your case.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||05/03/2013|
Except I will be posting as much as I want for as long as I like (you'll see). I've probably been here longer than you have since I actually know how F&F works. You're just a dope who thinks some outmoded, debunked theory is somehow still relevant. The funny thing is, I'm a pro-choice Liberal. I was simply trying to tell you that the theory you were talking about has been debunked. However, I should have known better. People like you lack the emotional maturity to handle someone disagreeing with you or pointing out your errors.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||05/03/2013|
R25, you're so stupid that you don't even know that the paper you linked to is nothing but a rehash of the theories that have already been debunked ( Did you even read my links? Did you see the freaking dates?). Dude, get an education. You are embarrassing yourself. You can tell that you didn't even read the paper you linked to. If you did, you have the reading comprehension of a 3rd grader. You linked to a paper written by the original authors rehashing the same theories that have already been debunked prior to that date and after that date. Good Lord! Again, get an education. I'm not going to sit her and argue with a complete idiot. So have fun.

I predict Gov. Martin O’Malley will be keynote speaker at the next Democratic national convention.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||05/03/2013|
Aren't some of the biggest pro-death penalty supporters also the biggest anti-abortionists?
Good on Maryland. This needs to happen throughout the United States.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||05/03/2013|
Let's discuss the really important subject -- how hung is Gov. Martin O’Malley?
