Lawrence O'Donnell is really kinda stupid

He's trotting out his special Dorchester accent, evidently for this week only.

Please.

He's many things, but stupid is not one of them.

by Anonymousreply 104/22/2013

No, it appeared when he challenged Boston-area resident Tagg Romney to a fistfight last election season. It's entertainment.

Me likey Larry.

by Anonymousreply 304/22/2013

He always does that when he says "Dorchester" but the thing is, he doesn't say it in a manner in which I have ever heard a Dorchester native say it. He pronounces it "Dah-chestah" when the way it is commonly said is "Daw-chestuh." He's trying way too hard. Like when NPR white ladies say, "Lah-deenos".

by Anonymousreply 404/22/2013

If you grew up in the area it's easy to lapse back into the accent.

I'm with OP. It sounds contrived. He may be a brilliant writer and a really smart guy but sometimes he comes off as disingenuous.

by Anonymousreply 604/22/2013

He is very intelligent. Also so in love with being Lawrence O'Donnell that he oozes self-satisfaction.

by Anonymousreply 704/22/2013

[R7} I would agree with that statement, but it is not without cause.

by Anonymousreply 804/22/2013

As a Proper Bostonian, the neighborhood of Dorchester is as R4 states:

"Daw-chestah." And the "Daw" is pronounced the same way as in the word "dawn."

And Dorchester High School is pronounced "Dot High."

by Anonymousreply 904/23/2013

Agreed R7!

He was on Capitol Hill over a generation ago, and is struggling to be relevant now.

by Anonymousreply 1004/23/2013

I like him and his show, but his revived Boston accent (I'm from there too) is bizarre, and a desperate plea for "I'm wunna youse!" authenticity.
