Two huge blasts rock Boston Marathon finish line

Monday, April 15, 2013

By: Jordan Graham

Two huge explosions rocked the Boston Marathon finish line at Copley Square just before 3 p.m. today, apparently causing numerous casualties.

"I saw two explosions. The first one was beyond the finish line. I heard a loud bang and I saw smoke rising," said Herald reporter Chris Cassidy, who was running in the marathon. "I kept running and I heard behind me a loud bang. It looked like it was in a trash can or something. That one was in front of Abe and Louie's. There are people who have been hit with debris, people with bloody foreheads."

"There are at least a dozen that seem to be injured in some way," Cassidy said.

by Anonymousreply 4504/15/2013

History shows that there have been many such violent incidents in the week preceding and including April 20, which is Hitler's birthday. The Columbine school shooting, and the Oklahoma City bombing, and many others, if you do your research, occurred in this time frame.

I still don't understand why the authorities do not recognize this fact. They need to increase security, or cancel unnecessary events during this one week period.

Who's the guy whose butt we keep seeing on CBS?

by Anonymousreply 7304/15/2013

Jeezus this has even pre-empted network programming it's so big. Brian Williams himself is covering it on NBC. And the news is getting bleaker with new revelations about every 20 minutes. I'm completely neutral as to the issue of whether this is domestic or foreign terrorism. BUT Brian, who, due to his gravitas as Lead NBC anchor,(so unlike Fox or other cable talking heads who tend to leap to conclusions before any proof surfaces) is alluding to inside info pointing towards foreign action. He said that the nature of the bomb sequencing lines up with the M.O. of international incidents such as Spain years ago.

by Anonymousreply 7404/15/2013

Fire at the Kennedy library? Has to be domestic. Nobody overseas would care about that.

by Anonymousreply 7504/15/2013

In that live video of the bomb going off (as mentioned in R66) why does only one person stop/fall down? I suppose they keep running to get the hell away from the explosion, but if it were me, I would at least look at see what was going on!

Imagine being at the end of a very long marathon and then having to run away from a bomb. When I finished my one and only marathon, I could barely put one foot in front of the other for the last mile. If a bomb would have gone off, I would have collapsed (or shimmied as referenced above) to the ground for sure.

by Anonymousreply 7604/15/2013

I'd say it's the British. Still unreconciled to events that happened in Boston many years ago...

by Anonymousreply 7704/15/2013

Isn't it somewhat obvious to refer to the events as "bombs" as opposed to anything else? An explosion seldom happens by itself in situations like these.

----

Vice president Biden, in a statement, has referred to a "bombing," not an "explosion," Dan Roberts reports in Washington.

"Our prayers are with those people in Boston who have suffered injuries," Biden said.

The marathon's organisers have also referred to "bombs". But there is no official confirmation of that from law enforcement agencies yet.

All the blood on the ground is nothing compared to my monthly output.

by Anonymousreply 12404/15/2013

[R103] I completely see your point, but you must have never attended The Masters. One must have a badge which are inherited from generation to generation, and if someone sells their badge and is caught, they lose it immediately. Sure folks do it. Who wouldn't like to spend Masters Week in Bali while some "yankee" arriviste pays $20K for your 4 badges and the use of your Augusta home.

So, assuming one has procured said badge, the security at AN makes LAX look like a bunch of pikers.

On the other hand, a crowd filled event open to all, is nearly impossible to guard.

[quote]Sorry, [R134], but saying that Al Qaeda is "saner" than the Tea Party borders on the brain-damaged.

Nope. At least Al Qaeda has legitimate complaints, even if they're terrorist assholes.

The Tea Party insists they are "Taxed Enough Already" (T.E.A. Party), at a time when taxes are the lowest they've been in generations... they don't even know the basic facts that their entire organization is built around.

They're more ignorant and every bit as arrogant and violent and insane.

What's brain-damaged is not recognizing the obviousness of this simple fact.

[quote]if there were as many Al Qaeda members in the US as there are Tea Partiers (bad as the latter are), your life would be slightly harder than it is today.

Not sure how that illustrates the point. There aren't many Al Qaeda members left alive, true. And most Tea Party members are "arm-chair" types... but the actual core is doing far more damage to this country (via ALEC and GOP obstructionism and state-houses legislating the destruction of democracy) than Al Qaeda could ever hope to achieve. I'm not even sure there are fewer deaths involved (how many will die due to TeaParty-forced austerity, sequester, and destruction of social safety nets, regulations, and programs??)

Sorry, you're wrong.

Interesting coverage on NBC. Former police chief says that there would have been many more people in the area an hour earlier. The location of the explosions seems to have been in a restricted area. Being near the finish line probably maximised press coverage.

by Anonymousreply 19204/15/2013

R186... the sick lunatics are Tea Party morons, their violent rhetoric, and their destruction of this country. You're all angry at the wrong person. Why is that? Are you a tea-party moron yourself? Is that why you're so bent out of shape at being called out?

Thanks R187, been trying to get in touch with my brother in Boston and couldn't get thru

by Anonymousreply 19404/15/2013

Davis, the Boston police commissioner, contradicts an earlier AP report and says that no additional devices have been found at the race scene. But he says that controlled explosions have been, and may continue to be, carried out on bags and packages that fleeing spectators may have left.

---

Davis said authorities "are assuming" that a later explosion at Boston's JFK Library was related to the marathon explosions.

The library is in Dorchester, Massachusetts, miles across town from the marathon finish.

The library said the explosion happened in a mechanical room:

Fire in building is out, appears to have started in the mechanical room of new building. All staff and visitors are accounted for and safe. — JFK Library (@JFKLibrary) April 15, 2013

Investigators are investigating. Any tie to Boston Marathon explosions is pure speculation. More information as we receive it. — JFK Library (@JFKLibrary) April 15, 2013

Is anyone else sick and tired of "pray for ___" every time a tragedy happens? WTF good will that do? It happened, praying won't undo what happened. And I feel sick to my stomach that since I'm not Christian, I can't take part of it, and everyone HAS to deal with it the Christian and proper way. Fuck that. I can still empathize with the victims, and all those affected even if I'm not Christian. I cannot stand it when #prayforboston trends, disgusting. I refuse to tweet that when I don't believe in a God.

The media has done such a wonderful job at carrying out their masters' orders that it's becoming difficult to even care. I knew a great guy who died I the Aurora theater and his murder just reminded me of the randomness of it all.

Whether this latest incident is the result of domestic or international terrorism doesn't matter. All we know for sure is that society will never be allowed to escape this perpetual state of fear we've had thrust upon us. Continue taking off your shoes in airports, walking through metal detectors at the museum, and whatever else helps you sleep at night.

by Anonymousreply 24304/15/2013

I would think that right now anyone who puts a foot wrong will get cuffed by the police.

I'm inclined to believe it was either a lone wolf "terrorist" or it was Domestic. I cite the fact it's IRS Day, Patriot's Day and the Marathon. I'm also connecting the Newtown Victims dedication.

I've been reading all this hysterical nonsense about how the proposed gun laws will rob us of our freedoms, etc. and there's a segment of our country, on the extreme Right, that is growing more & more militant.

These activists can convince thenselves of anything. They are paranoid. We have done nothing at all about people stockpiling weapons, ammo, explosive devices. Shit. You can mail order a fucking rocket launcher.

Whether this perp's actions were inspired Domestically or Internationally, the person who did this is an American. I believe that.

by Anonymousreply 26604/15/2013

by Anonymousreply 28804/15/2013

From the Globe's Michael B. Farrell and Erin Ailworth: The heavy volume of mobile phone calls around downtown Boston following explosions at the Boston Marathon has clogged cell service, blocking many from getting through to people at the scene.

“We are experiencing call blocking due to what’s happening,” said Mark Elliott, a Sprint spokesman. “The network is blocking calls because the number of calls coming in exceeds the capacity.”

He didn’t know what the exact volume of calls has been since the explosions occurred, but said many thousands of calls made at the same time can overwhelm cell towers in the area. “There’s no way the network can handle that kind of traffic,” he said.

There have been numerous reports of many people not able to get through to their family and friends at the marathon.

In a statement, AT&T said: “As we coordinate with local officials, customers in the area may be experiencing issues with wireless voice and data service due to a spike of network activity and related congestion. We recommend customers use text messaging for emergencies. We also advise customers to keep non-emergency calls to a minimum. To help, our temporary Wi-Fi turned up for the Boston Marathon will remain on for an extended timeframe.”

Elliott of Sprint said that mobile phone users should text the people they are trying to reach in the area instead of calling to free up the mobile networks for emergency uses.

Verizon Wireless, meanwhile, issued a statement, saying: “Verizon Wireless has been enhancing network voice capacity to enable additional calling in the Copley Square area of Boston. Customers are advised to use text or email to free up voice capacity for public safety officials at the scene. There was no damage to the Verizon Wireless network, which is seeing elevated calling and data usage throughout the region since the explosions occurred.”

Yep. The right wingers still claim that it was the ruling party's fault for 22nd July here in Norway, and that the right wing parties are not to blame, even though the monster was a right wing extremist. He even was a member of a right wing party for a long time. This party perpetuate those hateful attitudes in society every effing day, but when one of their own kills dozens of children, they of course can't be to blame. No, because it of course was the Labour Party's fault. They actually had the fucking nerve to say that Labour played the "victim" card after the bombing/shootings, they took NONE of the blame for what happened, none what so ever, NONE. At least Labour took the high way out, they said "it was an attack of democracy, this guy wasn't part of any political party, he was outside of the democracy", but come on.. we all know that isn't true. He was a confirmed member of the racist/homophobic right wing party in Norway for many years. Yet they got away with everything, nothing has changed. They're still racist assholes. And yes, most people here still blame the Labour Party for what happened that day, and of course the right wing assholes got away without a scratch, fuck, the right wingers have a huge majority right now. It's sickening.

You STILL don't get it, do you? Saying "my thoughts are with the victims" is a way of empathize with what happened, WITHOUT bringing religion into the picture. Why would I say "pray for" when I'm not a Christian? There's no need to bring religion into the picture, and no.. "my thoughts are with", just mean you think about the victims, you don't pray to a non-existant God to undo what happened, or ask for a miracle, there's a difference. Hell, I can sort of understand why Christians would write that, because it's their coping mechanism. It's the non-Christians who write "pray for" that I don't understand, and yes, those people are hypocrites.

It's Tax Day, in Boston, at a race where the Newtown CT families who have become a flashpoint in the fight for stricter gun regulation seem to have been specifically targeted.

This is kindergarten math. Taxes + Boston Tea Party + homemade device + Newtown = "my guns and my taxes." This is textbook domestic terrorism.

Now watch the Tea Party duck and cover and blame EVERYONE FUCKING ELSE. AGAIN. Just like in December.

Obama has begun doing what he can since Newtown, but clearly we should throw these fuckers in jail for hate speech tonight and all week long the minute they begin spinning and pointing fingers at everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 36104/15/2013

Uh-oh--CNN is reporting one of those killed is an eight-year-old child. Look for Anderson to go into full grief-porn mode, shining lights and sticking a microphone in the parents' faces, asking the tired-old "What do you want people to know about _____?"

by Anonymousreply 36704/15/2013

Shut-up, r356. The person was expressing his thoughts, you don't have to be obnoxious about it.

douchebag

by Anonymousreply 37204/15/2013

I would think this is domestic terrorism. Sounds like a crudely made home made bomb. i wouldnt be surprised if its another crazy kid like the one in Sandy Hook.

by Anonymousreply 37904/15/2013

[quote]Now watch the Tea Party duck and cover and blame EVERYONE FUCKING ELSE. AGAIN. Just like in December.

Again, this is EXACTLY what happened here in Norway. The right wingers take NO blame what so ever for what happened, if anything they blamed the ruling party for their reckless immigration policy. They were left without a scratch. The Labour Party on the other hand got all of the blame, and the low point was when the right wing assholes claimed that Labour played the victim card, despite the fact that the right wingers conveniently left out the fact that this was done by a right wing extremist. He had actual ties to a right wing party. Not a word about that, they're completely without blame. Yep, they just spew their racist and homophobic hate every day (kinda like the tea party) and when something happens, by the hands of one of their own, they're completely blameless. It's fucking disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 38004/15/2013

Fuck off, R323.

by Anonymousreply 38104/15/2013

I'm just glad this wasn't the dirty bomb that we hear so much about. I am in now way diminishing the tragedy, but it reminds me that with all the plutonium sitting around in the former USSR, that could be a future scenario.

Admittedly an uninformed question: Would we KNOW at this point if one of the bombs did contain dirty material??

by Anonymousreply 41504/15/2013

[quote]But [R380], the Norway shooter is clearly a psycho closet case, with his David Beckham obsession and whatnot. Can the right wing admit that?

What do you think? No, they can't admit that. They can't even take some of the blame for what happened, since everything is the left's fault, even though he was a right wing extremist and one of their own. They still found a way to blame the left, and most Norwegians are onboard with it, everyone keeps blaming the left, and nobody talks about the ties he had to a certain right wing party. That was off the table, but it wasn't off the table to say that The Labour Party played the victim card. THAT was supposedly ok! That said, there was a discussion going on at a gay website, during that time. And yes, we did talk about the fact that he might have been a closet case.

When the IRA had a bombing campaign in Britain, the media and people didn't get hysterical or wallow in grief porn. They briefly reported where the bomb went off, whether people were killed or not, and the city of London immediately leaned up the site and called in contractors to make repairs ASAP. areas that were bombed were not closed off from the public, as it was felt that altering people's daily commutes would be bad for public morale.

Of course, in America, we hysterically try to wring every bit of attention from it that we can.

R444, trust me, you're the dumbass.

Nice try, r445, but that isn't true, and now we have social. Don't forget that this marathon was attended by people from all countries. 9/11 was also a big deal because of that factor. The London bus bombings had people in hysterics. After 9/11, Americans have every right to be on edge.

The cost: $3.9 billion.

R445 puts the Wisdom in W&W. I'm so fucking tired of the inevitable grief porn marathon that occurs whenever stupid shit like this happens. Yeah, it should get extensive coverage in Boston and lead status on the cable news shows; however, this shit has gotten beyond stale.

I sympathize with all who lost loved ones or who were hurt in the bombings but one of my local news channels, in a city that is not Boston, felt the need to do another half hour special on this after covering the story all afternoon and the national news show expanded to an hour. This is why we become desensitized to violence.

by Anonymousreply 47404/16/2013

Whomever did this did not do their homework. The nature of a marathon means there were lots of medical personnel there and ready to act. I am willing to bet there would be way more fatalities had there not been people who knew exactly what to do to control bleeding/shock/etc.

by Anonymousreply 47504/16/2013

r461, you sad little man, this is not "stupid shit," as you so eloquently put it. People, including a child, are dead. This hurts INTERNATIONALLY; marathons as acclaimed as Boston's are not isolated events for those in the NE. To diminish this is jarringly uncouth.

by Anonymousreply 47604/16/2013

I suspect that is exactly the intention, R474.

R476:

On the day that 3 Americans had been killed in Afghanistan, Mika Brzezinski of "Morning Joe" led the discussion with a 15 minute diatribe on sugary beverages.

Recently, a woman in Washington DC was getting on the bus when a psycho boyfriend shot at her and killed her 1 year old baby.

Today an off-duty NYPD officer killed her boyfriend and their 1 year old son.

The fact of the matter is, this Boston Marathon bombing will receive days of coverage despite the fact that only 2 people died. It is STUPID SHIT because tragedies like this have occurred in the past, and they'll occur in the future. The media's rush to create heroes and villains has become tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 48404/16/2013

How well does "FBI profiler" pay because I'd like to be one if stating the obvious is a job requirement?

by Anonymousreply 48604/16/2013

CNN had a security expert who said the bomber probably used bombs to create the 3 explosions. He also said that it's likely the people who died did so because they were seriously injured. His analysis was riveting!!!

by Anonymousreply 48704/16/2013

Seriously, R190? Why am I not surprised?

And yet, all broadcast and cable networks made it a special point NOT to show footage/replays of a college basketball player's leg bones snap in two during the NCAA Final Four game. Lord, how they patted themselves on the back for protecting our collective sensibilities!

But bombs exploding, bodies maimed *during another sporting event*? Yup, let's put that 'un in heavy rotation!

by Anonymousreply 49404/16/2013

I think Muslim bombers usually call in afterwards to say they did it. But since there has been no known caller, this is a domestic event.

by Anonymousreply 49504/16/2013

FWIW, Chris Matthews was giving off all sorts of "read between the lines" statements to the effect that it would be unwise to hang this on Islamic Terrorists at this juncture. He made some strong statements about idealogues who as he put it: "they're not Conservatives or Democrats, they are unhinged and they view burning down clinics or bombing the Olympics or a Federal building is the best way to be heard."

Now, Chris Hayes has finally brought up a point which has had me scratching my head. From what we know, this kind of pipe bomb, loaded with shrapnel, is rather unsophisticated when compared to the IED's used in theaters of war. Anyone can put together a pipe bomb in their garage. Why would a faction such as Al Qaida waste such an opportunity to kill 100 with a technical device rather than 2 with a pipe bomb? Bob Dan from Tallahassee would, perhaps. Now, and this is not rumor, it is being reported on all networks that they authorities are searching for a Penske truck which attempted to enter the secured race area today. That sounds scarily like OKC.

My mind is open 100% to either scenario, but I just felt guilty after laughing at those pointing fingers at the "Tea Party" morons earlier.

We'll be fed the "war on terror" line but it was probably some high school dropouts with basic bomb making knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 50404/16/2013

"Moments like this don't show our weakness; they show our strength."

by Anonymousreply 50504/16/2013

I apologize. I inadvertently addressed a post to [R97] when it should have been [R497].

by Anonymousreply 50604/16/2013

They are reporting that there are now three dead.

by Anonymousreply 50704/16/2013

OK, I'm turning on the 2 hour season finale of Dallas. Time to escape this shit for a while.

by Anonymousreply 50804/16/2013

such major assholes posting in this thread. wow.

by Anonymousreply 50904/16/2013

Me just know something suspiskis am going on here!!!! Yes um.

by Anonymousreply 51004/16/2013

YAY! Rachel's on. Now we can listen to a voice of reason who will not sensationalize the event.

by Anonymousreply 51104/16/2013

Watching the briefing just now...was there really some wingnut there asking if they thought this was a government plan to take our guns away? Did I hear that right?

by Anonymousreply 51204/16/2013

Since when was an 8 year old confirmed dead?

by Anonymousreply 51304/16/2013

More people die in traffic accidents every day. Stories like these get coverage because they advance the current media story of "the war on terror".

by Anonymousreply 51404/16/2013

So, no suspect in custody but they are interested in a dark skinned man who was trying to get into the restricted area, carrying a black knapsack.

by Anonymousreply 51504/16/2013

The 8 year old was confirmed dead nearly 2 hours ago.

by Anonymousreply 51604/16/2013

More children have been killed by guns in the last two weeks.

by Anonymousreply 51704/16/2013

%0 people died in Iraq today as well.

by Anonymousreply 51804/16/2013

It's strange that there's nobody taking credit. Are they certain it wasn't a natural gas explosion? I'd really rather believe this wasn't a terror attack.

by Anonymousreply 51904/16/2013

R514, apples and oranges. This isn't an accident, it's an attack and hundred people have been confirmed as injured---many critical and with lost limbs. It was at a major, publicized annual event where thousands of people attend from all over the world.

It deserves coverage. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know who is behind this.

by Anonymousreply 52004/16/2013

R513, this NBC report mentions the child's death.

by Anonymousreply 52104/16/2013

r512 Yes, he started spouting the Alex Jones-"false flag" horse shit, saying this was orchestrated by the government "to take away our civil liberties", and was told this wasn't the case. I guess he was counting on being ejected from the press conference so he could make some kind of scene. When that didn't happen, he started in with the conspiracy theories again. The other reporters started talking over him and the officials ignored him. Epic fail on his part.

by Anonymousreply 52204/16/2013

It is odd, R519. It reeks of weird loner, rather than organized terrorist group. But they found remnants of the bombs so it's not a gas explosion.

by Anonymousreply 52304/16/2013

I hope foreigners see these images on television and stop moving here out of fear.

by Anonymousreply 52404/16/2013

[quote]Uh--Obama didn't get a memo a few weeks ago warning of a potential domestic attack in the northeast in mid April.

Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 52504/16/2013

3rd death confirmed.

by Anonymousreply 52604/16/2013

Yay Maddow, more entertainment branded as news! God bless America, where we can find a corporate television "news" that panders to our personal viewpoints!

by Anonymousreply 52704/16/2013

This seems kind of "light" for Al-Qaeda or other Islamists, given what they did in Madrid and London.

One American psycho seems more likely.

by Anonymousreply 52804/16/2013

[quote] %0 people died in Iraq today as well.

Allow me to correct this.

46 people died and 300 were injured in Iraq today in 12 bombings.

by Anonymousreply 52904/16/2013

When broadcasting footage of the bombings, why do the news channels need to fill up half of the screen with huge fucking graphics?

by Anonymousreply 53004/16/2013

Someone I know with whom I'm Facebook friends just posted this:

[quote]I'm so tired of hearing of all these incidents. Our society has brought this upon us. Only gonna stop when we become like the old US. To all those who were involved I'm praying for your recovery and I'm extremely thankful that my Fam who was around Boston today is home and safe!!!!

I have no idea what it means, but several people Liked it. "Become like the old US"? Anyone care to break it down for me?

by Anonymousreply 53104/16/2013

[quote] It deserves coverage

It deserves coverage when there is new information. But for hours and hours, the same not-new information will be recycled, interspersed with eyewitness reports that there was a loud noise, screaming, smoke, amputated limbs and a lot of blood.

by Anonymousreply 53204/16/2013

Old US: Straight white males in charge, women and people of color "knowing their place" and no furriners, especially the darker ones.

by Anonymousreply 53304/16/2013

Is there any hope this will end the sequestration? If the Dept of Health and Human Services hadn't had it's research funding cut this would never have happened!

by Anonymousreply 53504/16/2013

[quote]More people die in traffic accidents every day. Stories like these get coverage because they advance the current media story of "the war on terror".

You're an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 53604/16/2013

liveleak.com

has very graphic pics. I'm starting to believe that more than 3 were killed.

WARNING EXTREMELY GRAPHIC PHOTOS AT LINK.

(I can hear the zippers working already...)

by Anonymousreply 53704/16/2013

[quote]Anyone care to break it down for me?

Your friend and those who "liked" his comment seem nostalgic for the good old fashioned political assassinations, mass-murders, shootings, and bombings of years past.

Perhaps killing was more quaint back then when there wasn't 24/hour instant news.

by Anonymousreply 53804/16/2013

[]I have no idea what it means, but several people Liked it. "Become like the old US"? Anyone care to break it down for me?

Translation: Things were so much better when only "those people" suffered terrorist bombings.

by Anonymousreply 53904/16/2013

[quote] "become like the old US"

Well, we had a Mad Bomber in the US in the 1940s and 50s.

by Anonymousreply 54004/16/2013

In the old US, more people were in unions, and CEOs made 3 times the average worker instead of today where they make 500 times the average worker's salary. That must be what they mean.

[quote]Really, Einstein??

You know what? I didn't ask for your pompous opinion.

by Anonymousreply 54304/16/2013

Maddow is covering the scene live. She seems visibly upset. This is her home state , no?

by Anonymousreply 54404/16/2013

[R514] I agree that it's apples and oranges.

Terrorism isn't about a body count. It is about scaring a group of people into assuming a defensive pose and restricting their comfort in living their daily lives. Hence, the word terror.

60,000 people die from aspirin overdose annually. 0 people have ever died from weed overdose. You will never hear those numbers compared on the news either.

Having been in the airline industry at the time of 9-11, I can't describe to you the look of frozen terror on the faces of our passengers for the following two years. THAT was the terrorist's plan, and yes victory. Forcing us to change our laissez faire attitude about flying forever was their intent. We are paying the price to this day.

by Anonymousreply 54504/16/2013

R544, yes. I think she lives in Boston (when she's not working)

by Anonymousreply 54604/16/2013

Lance Armstrong did it.

by Anonymousreply 54704/16/2013

Just looked at the Liveleak pics. Horrific.

by Anonymousreply 54804/16/2013

[quote]such major assholes posting in this thread. wow.

Totally agree.

by Anonymousreply 55004/16/2013

R544 and R546 - I think she lives in Western MA. But still.

by Anonymousreply 55104/16/2013

There is a particularly horrific horrific photo of a cute guy with his legs blown off below the knee, being wheeled away from the scene. He is conscious but ashen, holding his leg at the knee.

Medical professionals, is it possible to survive that? He had a tourniquet on. Or is it almost certain that he bled out?

I can't get him out of my mind.

by Anonymousreply 55204/16/2013

Thanks, R533.

by Anonymousreply 55304/16/2013

Let's all download 'Please Come To Boston' to show solidarity with the people there. Can you imagine how much it would mean to them if it became a number one hit. Turn this into an opportunity to do something really positive.

by Anonymousreply 55504/16/2013

R545, since you're so scrupulous about separating those apples and oranges, how about removing the coconut from your silly post and stop saying that 60,000 people die every year from aspirin overdose? The actual number in the USA is in the hundreds, and even when other NSAIDS are added the count is much, much less than your "statistic."

Perhaps that look of frozen terror you were seeing was the natural response of travelers to your hyperbolic personality. You undermine your argument, which isn't so bad otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 55604/16/2013

[quote] Just looked at the Liveleak pics. Horrific.

What a bunch of fucking Marys. One brief glimpse of a man in a wheelchair with leg injuries. The rest is just people running around and repeated videos of smoke.

Joey McIntyre Finishes Boston Marathon Minutes Before Explosions!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 55904/16/2013

Looked at the liveleak photos that show some of the victims having their legs blown off. Terrible, just terrible.

My heart goes out to them.

And I will definitely be avoiding crowded public gatherings from now on.

by Anonymousreply 56004/16/2013

[quote]Having been in the airline industry at the time of 9-11, I can't describe to you the look of frozen terror on the faces of our passengers for the following two years. THAT was the terrorist's plan, and yes victory.

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 56104/16/2013

It's beyond "leg injuries," R557. His fucking legs are blown off. His bones are showing and arteries dangling.

Is that kind of wound survivable? I can't imagine how.

by Anonymousreply 56204/16/2013

r557 obviously has looked at liveleak.

by Anonymousreply 56304/16/2013

[quote] Medical professionals, is it possible to survive that?

Of course it is. Otherwise, you would never seen any double amputee veterans and there are plenty of them. Tammy Duckworth is almost a triple amputee.

Get over yourselves.

by Anonymousreply 56404/16/2013

With leg injuries? It's just a stick with blood and skin hanging off it! Fucking A you troglodyte.

by Anonymousreply 56504/16/2013

I've never said this before, but it needs to be said:

r557 eats old people's excrement.

by Anonymousreply 56604/16/2013

Maddow: Republican candidate for Senate had just crossed the finish line minutes before the blast.

I predict the GOP will definitely not use this tragedy in her campaign. Not at all.

by Anonymousreply 56704/16/2013

R557 what a fucking idiot.

by Anonymousreply 56804/16/2013

And people are already parsing Obama's statement and wondering why he didn't use the word terrorism.

Why is it a bad thing for a leader to be circumspect in his speech?

by Anonymousreply 56904/16/2013

[quote] Terrorism isn't about a body count. It is about scaring a group of people into assuming a defensive pose and restricting their comfort in living their daily lives.

So stop being afraid, you ninnies.

Every man on my block when i sas growing up had been in WWII. They never talked about the horrors they saw. (one was a POW). They came home and got on with life. The most hey did was complain about the military and how ridiculous their superiors were (particularly sergeants who let their position go to their head). Some were in Japan, Germany, France, landed at Normandy, got caught in the Battle of the Bulge, etc. We only knew because their wives mentioned it.

They weren't afraid and they didn't constantly talk about it or relive it. War is hell. They lived through it. Meanwhile, people who were nowhere near WTC or OKC or Boston are whining about how they will have nightmares and how "horrific" seeing a nanosecond of one injured man is.

The "making it all about me" contingent rules the net and the airwaves. We've had a Mad Bomber. We had a bomb at Fraunces's Tavern, a bomb blew up a townhouse in Greenwich village, a bomb went off at laGuardia airport in 1970 killing 11 and injuring more than 60 people. The Unabomber didn't interfere with anyone's daily life unless you happened to get a package from him. Nobody got hysterical or froze with terror in their daily lives over these incidents.

Turn off the 24 hour cable schlockmeisters and stop peeing yourselves. It's not about you.

by Anonymousreply 57104/16/2013

List of locals who have offered a place to stay, a meal, transportation, etc. to out-of-towners.

Boston has some very cool people.

by Anonymousreply 57204/16/2013

600!

by Anonymousreply 57404/16/2013

Oh, R573...do shut up. You're tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 57504/16/2013

And R574, you're really bad at math.

by Anonymousreply 57604/16/2013

But Iraq didn't cause 9/11. Ummm...what are you talking about, R573?

Sometimes it's really hard for me to feel sorry for soldiers who went to Iraq and Afghanistan. Sometimes I think they just wanted to use their guns legally and just maybe...our soldiers are just murderers in uniform.

Anyway, I did see one picture and I don't want to see any others. One thing about people who are in good shape, they might not bleed out as fast.

by Anonymousreply 57704/16/2013

It is pathetic how people are posting on other sites "OMG, my sister is working down there" or "My friend said he was going to see the race!" as if it is all about them. We're not talking HIroshima here, I'm sure they're find. Pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 57804/16/2013

R531 is the reason Facebook and its ilk make zero sense to me. If someone is your FB "friend," why the fuck don't you just ASK them to explain their wingnut statement? We don't know the idiot, you do.

by Anonymousreply 57904/16/2013

Don't you think the NRA is responsible? I do, some nutty NRA zealot...trying to get nasty with the people from Newtown.

by Anonymousreply 58004/16/2013

Take your own advice, R575. R573 is right.

by Anonymousreply 58104/16/2013

To poster r485: are you fucking brain dead or just a prick? The point I was making is the local channel, based in another city, chose to interrupt regular programming to do a "special" after reporting on it all afternoon. A "special" that aired AFTER the national news broadcast which was expanded to an hour. In other words, gross over kill. I know I can turn off the television. I deliberately did not watch CNN or MSNBC. The point is, after awhile, the coverage becomes more entertainment than hard news. But I guess they find an audience in people just like you.

by Anonymousreply 58204/16/2013

FB does annoy me during national emergencies/tragedies when everyone posts "there are no words." Because if there are no words, you shouldn't post them.

Or pictures of candles, crying eagles, or a picture of Mr. Rogers.

by Anonymousreply 58304/16/2013

According to CBS News, Lindsay Lohan and Justin Timberlake, along with Joey McIntyre and Ethan Zohn, who ran in the race, send prayers to Boston.

by Anonymousreply 58404/16/2013

R577, I just read your post to my sister, who has a Master's in nursing and Ph.D in healthcare administration. She's still laughing.

by Anonymousreply 58504/16/2013

At least the meat souvenir hunters have a chance with this one. With 9/11 not so much.

by Anonymousreply 58704/16/2013

Actually, the only reason I said that, about not bleeding out as fast, was because of something doctors had said about why that guy who cut off his own arm, didn't bleed to death. Of course I realize these people were shredded but as someone said, all soldiers don't die, simply because they get their limbs blown off.

Laughing is good for people but let's face it, there is a reason why some people bleed to death and some don't.

by Anonymousreply 58904/16/2013

Why not let the guy retire?

by Anonymousreply 59004/16/2013

600!

by Anonymousreply 59104/16/2013

Christine Baranski as Mame!

by Anonymousreply 59204/16/2013

Yes, R577/R589, but it's just irresponsible toto imply marathoners would bleed out more slowly than Wanda, the sedentary office manager. Ambient temperature would have more of an effect, ffs.

You could just as easily claim marathoners just completing a race would bleed out more quickly than Wanda, since the runner's heart is pumping hard to get oxygen through the body.

Running deer bleed out faster when shot than stationary deer. Ask any hunter.

by Anonymousreply 59304/16/2013

"New Kids on the Block member Joey finished the marathon minutes before the explosion. He is unhurt"

He's HANGIN' TOUGH

by Anonymousreply 59404/16/2013

Actually, I think it was lost footage from the original Bombshell tryouts.

by Anonymousreply 59504/16/2013

[quote]One thing about people who are in good shape, they might not bleed out as fast.

Right. Your heart thumping to beat the band in response to all that exercise won't make you bleed out faster. Not at all. Right.

by Anonymousreply 59604/16/2013

The bomb squad was called to Queens - Roosevelt Ave & 103 St. for a suspicious package. Nothing much out there - it's kind of near the airport and Citi Field but not close enough to be a threat. It's probably nothing.

Craig Ferguson 'appalled' by the Boston Marathon explosion; 'I'm not a good enough comedian to hide all that'

By Andrea Reiher | April 15, 2013 9:44 PM ET t Craig Ferguson opened his Monday night (April 15) episode of "The Late Late Show" with a heartfelt message about today's tragic explosion at the Boston Marathon finish line.

Hey everybody, good evening. Tonight's show is a little bit different. Obviously, the news of today is so horrendous that it would seem insensitive at best to say 'It's a great day for America,' so I won't be starting the show with that tonight.

Is anyone else sick of this s***? I seem to have to say that too often. People say to me 'Craig, your job is to make people laugh at the end of the day.' And I think, yes, that's true, but I've never professed to be any damn good at that. And, the thing is, people want their mind taken off it. And I think, well OK, if you want your mind taken off it, you know, watch a cartoon or a video or something. I understand it, it's perfectly acceptable. I don't think it's a terrible thing to not want to think about it, but I can't not think about it.

Also, I have a personal connection with the city of Boston. I have some history there. I have family there. When I became an American citizen in 2008, I spoke at Faneuil Hall on July 4, at the invitation of Tommy Menino who is the mayor of Boston, and one of the more colorful characters in American politics ... I've been there for the Fourth of July many times and every cop in Boston looks like I'm his brother. My first stand-up special in America, I shot it in Boston. I like that town. I'm appalled by this thing and when I watch it on these streets that I know, it's horrifying.

If I have all this inside of me, if I have all this rage and anger and distress and upset inside of me, I'm not a good enough comedian to hide all that from you.

by Anonymousreply 59904/16/2013

The videos clearly show that the runners never hit the Pentagon. The finish line was broken by a series of planned explosions. Americans are so naive.
