On Netflix. Much better than that utter piece of shit Scream 3.

The opening is awesome. Unlike te 3rd film, there are interesting new characters (especially Hayden whatshername), not just parodies (Hi, Parker Posey!). Neve Campbell looks fantastic! The gay kid is really cute.

Really violent, though. The killer's self-inflicted violence is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 13807/31/2013

Neve looked incredible.

Hayden can't act.

by Anonymousreply 104/13/2013

R1, this is the only thing I've liked Hayden. I'll give credit to the writer for her character. The scene where the killer quizzes her on horror movies is great.

by Anonymousreply 204/13/2013

Scream 4 was really underrated. But I think Parker Posey was one of the few bright spots in Scream 3, even though she was performing in a completely different movie than the one she was in.

by Anonymousreply 304/13/2013

I think Scream 4 proved that Emma Roberts is a talented little actress, more in line with her father than her famous aunt.

by Anonymousreply 404/13/2013

Hayden's fucking hysterical in this movie: "Am I NEXT?" "Who invited you, Trevor???" Neve is (as always) AWESOME, and looks terrific. The self-inflicted part was such a WTF moment. WAY better than Scr3am!

by Anonymousreply 504/13/2013

Parker Posey was the best part about Scream III

by Anonymousreply 604/13/2013

I loved Alison Brie in her small role.

Emma was ok. Not as bad as Hayden, but not great.

by Anonymousreply 704/13/2013

Don't forget Patrick "Swingin' Dick" Warburton, R6. I loved the scene where Parker jumped into his arms!

by Anonymousreply 804/13/2013

I think this sequel might be appreciated more a few years from now. I think it's a stronger movie than either of the first two sequels and would have been a bigger hit if they had waited a few more years until the memories of those initial follow-ups had faded.

by Anonymousreply 904/13/2013

Who else thinks that Nico Tortorella is fucking Kevin Williamson? He has two main credits to his name: Scream 4 and the Williamson-run TV show The Following.

by Anonymousreply 1004/13/2013

S4 didn't fare too well at the box office if I remember correctly.

by Anonymousreply 1104/13/2013

I agree, R9. For as much credit as Scream 2 gets, it has some serious pacing problems.

by Anonymousreply 1204/13/2013

Hayden Pantoteirre plays a dyke in this. Scream 5 is going to focus on her character and she is going to be the new Neve.

by Anonymousreply 1304/13/2013

Neve and Courtney on the set

by Anonymousreply 1404/13/2013

Parker Posey was great in Scream 3, but that whole movie played more like Scary Movie than Scream. And the killer can imitate everyone's voice? Lame.

Scream 4 is really dark, and really captures the tone of the first movie. Olivia's death is BRUTAL.

by Anonymousreply 1504/13/2013

by Anonymousreply 1604/13/2013

R16, Robbie is the gay kid. He's the one with the camera headset that is in the film class with with Rory Culkin

by Anonymousreply 1704/13/2013

Only watched it for Nico Tortorella...yum!

by Anonymousreply 1804/13/2013

I hated the scene where the killer revealed his or her motive. The killer does it for fame and yet delivers the speech in an almost monotone voice? Where was the over the top fame-whoring passion, the camp?

I think the 'gay' kid is the one who 'comes out' to the killer before he gets stabbed. Those who watched the movie get the comedy and irony of that scene.

by Anonymousreply 1904/13/2013

R19, but that crash into the coffee table made up for it.

by Anonymousreply 2004/13/2013

It's the best film in the series.

The reveal at the end is brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 2104/13/2013

Sceam 3 was lousy. It had that really stupid supernatural aspect with Sidney seein her dead mother. It also had the worst opening sequence, and the worst killer reveal.

Scream 4 is ties with Scream as the best. Scream 2 is good. The scene with SMG is a nice buildup of tension and ends with a great scream. The scene with Sidney and her roommate climbing over Ghostface to get out of the car is probably one of the most suspenseful moments in the entire series.

Scream 4 is brilliant because it manages to stick to its established formual while still feeling creatively fresh.

I swear Luka Magnotta saw this movie and said "Great idea!"

by Anonymousreply 2204/13/2013

I don't think the kid was gay. He was only saying that as an excuse to not get killed, sort of like "You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses, would you?" and then putting on fake glasses.

by Anonymousreply 2304/13/2013
Those who watched the movie get the comedy and irony of that scene.

Which would be....?

by Anonymousreply 2404/13/2013
Which would be....?

In the film class scene, the two guys are talking about the new rules of horror movies, and that character remarks "You pretty much have to be gay to survive."

by Anonymousreply 2504/13/2013

r24, please read 25 AND pay attention to who turns out to be the killer's little helper next time you watch the movie.

by Anonymousreply 2604/13/2013
"You pretty much have to be gay to survive."

Which is a total bogus rule, right? Or are there mainstream horror slasher movies where gay characters survive (not some gay themed slasher flick like Hellbent)?

by Anonymousreply 2704/13/2013
"You pretty much have to be gay to survive."

Which is why I don't think Robbie was gay. He was only saying that because it was one of the rules. If the rules had said only Jewish survive, he would have yelled out, "but I'm Jewish!"

by Anonymousreply 2804/13/2013

I loved Scream 4. I actually went to go see it twice in the theater. I never understood why it didn't do that well critically and commercially.

by Anonymousreply 2904/13/2013

The way he adds "if that helps" makes me think he did actually happen to be gay.

by Anonymousreply 3004/13/2013

Are they really going to make a Scream 5?

by Anonymousreply 3104/13/2013

Does anyone think continuing the franchise with Hayden's character instead of Neve is a good idea?

by Anonymousreply 3204/13/2013

by Anonymousreply 3304/13/2013

R32 - definitively yes!

by Anonymousreply 3404/13/2013

The original ending had the killer getting away with it and the last moments (which are included in the new ending) were the press anouncing their survival and proclaiming them a hero. A new Sidney Prescott, if you will.

The original plan was that this was going to kick-off a new trilogy, and the killer was going to be undiscovered in the sequel, but a copycat killer would be targeting them.

The studio or Wes Craven or someone changed their minds, though, and they filmed a new ending where SPOILER!!!!!!!!! all of the original cast survive (Sidney dies in the original ending) and the killer dies.

by Anonymousreply 3504/13/2013

Oh yeah, R35? That's really interesting. What other behind-the-scenes dirt do you have?

by Anonymousreply 3604/13/2013

Yep, R35. They even reference it in the movie !!!

by Anonymousreply 3704/13/2013

Killer: The real ending was supposed to be at the house! Sidney: Well you can consider it an alternate ending!

by Anonymousreply 3804/13/2013

R36, well Kevin Williamson was NOT happy about it and wouldn't write it, so they had Ehren Krueger write the new ending (all of the hospital scenes).

He talks a little about it here:

by Anonymousreply 3904/13/2013

Was the actor or actress who played the killer pissed that it didn't pan out the way it was promised to him or her?

by Anonymousreply 4004/13/2013

I don't know, R40. A trilogy was never a guarantee, Williamson just had an idea for what the story was going to be if it were to happen.

by Anonymousreply 4104/13/2013

Hayden's contract was for 3 movies.

by Anonymousreply 4204/13/2013

They also removed a scene where the high school kids talk about how an original cast member has to die in modern sequels when discussing the new rules of horror films. "Guaranteed third act main cast blood bath." They removed this when they changed the ending, but it's still in the original trailer:

by Anonymousreply 4304/13/2013

Oh, Gail also originally died. Originally she gets killed at Stab-a-thon. That moment in the above trailer where she says "Go ahead if you have the guts" isn't in the movie because it was immediately followed by her death. They changed it to just her being injured and we don't see her at all again until the new ending at the hospital because of it.

by Anonymousreply 4404/13/2013

Did anyone read the original script? The writing was much better, but it didn't have as much action. The Stab-a-thon wasn't it, and I believe Gail lived. Was Gail's death in a later shooting draft? The one I read ended with Dewey telling Emma Roberts in the ambulance that it looked like Sidney was going to live.

by Anonymousreply 4504/13/2013

IMO the final film is excellent. But I was waiting for one of the core 3 to die. My only real complaint with the film is that neither Sidney nor Gale die - Gale's big scene at Stab-a-,thon was an epic exit if I ever saw one, one of the top 3 or 4 setpieces in the series. I suspected they'd changed it.

I always thought it was deliberately ambiguous about the kid being gay. He mentions his friend as "my Charlie" while drunk.

by Anonymousreply 4604/13/2013
Scream 5 is going to focus on her character and she is going to be the new Neve.

I thought Hayden's character was killed off in 4?

by Anonymousreply 4704/13/2013

Like Randy in the first Scream, we never find out Kirby's fate. It's possible she could have survived.

by Anonymousreply 4804/13/2013

LOVED Parker Posey in Scream 3. She made the film for me. I was disappointed to see her go and still fully expected her to jump out all bandaged and on crutches when the original three (+ Patrick Dempsey, I think ??) .... sat down to watch their video.

by Anonymousreply 4904/13/2013

Fifty dollars? What are you, a reporter for Woodsboro High?

by Anonymousreply 5004/13/2013

Scream 2 has some really awesome moments: all of the Stab scenes, the Sarah Michelle Gellar scene at the sorority house, the car scene, Jada Pinkett as the opening kill, Portia DeRossi's "Hi! No, I really mean that - hi." and Sidney as Helen of Troy.

by Anonymousreply 5104/13/2013

Were Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin lovers in this?

I ask because in all of the previous film's opening kills, it was a couple that was featured. Obviously the other sets of girls were just friends.

by Anonymousreply 5204/14/2013

Loved Neve's delivery of the "Don't FUCK with the original" line.

by Anonymousreply 5304/14/2013

The killer in this one is a true sociopath, whereas all of the other killers had some fucked up revenge motive or were some mentally ill person being used.

by Anonymousreply 5404/14/2013

by Anonymousreply 5504/14/2013

Nico has some ugly tattoos (esp. the ones on his feet), but he's cute:

by Anonymousreply 5604/14/2013

That's a cute tatt in that picture, R56.

by Anonymousreply 5704/14/2013

Didn't like it the first time I saw it, it's only after re-watching the first one that I realized why(I didn't relate to the kids in the fourth one). Now it's one of my favorites but it's too long to explain why.

by Anonymousreply 5804/14/2013

They also reshot the beginning. Here's the original, which I think is better.

by Anonymousreply 5904/14/2013
Nico has some ugly tattoos (esp. the ones on his feet)

What tattoos on his feet?

by Anonymousreply 6004/14/2013

R60, these tattoos on his feet:

by Anonymousreply 6104/14/2013

Who is he? Why does he have so many glamour shots of him? He's not even famous so why are so many fashion magazines want to shoot him?

by Anonymousreply 6204/14/2013

He was a model too, R62.

by Anonymousreply 6304/14/2013

R62, are you okay? He's n actor. He was in Scream 4. He's also on The Following.

by Anonymousreply 6404/14/2013

Adam Brody is still cute. He should be in things more.

by Anonymousreply 6504/14/2013

He's cute, R65. But I've always gotten a judgmental coldness vibe from him.

by Anonymousreply 6604/14/2013

Remember, a gay man is behind Scream, and they decided not to use his script for this film.

This was the movie they were shooting without a script. It was that disastrous. There's so many alternate versions due to it.

Scream 4 was the 15th anniversary of the first film.

Courteney's face was horrible.

by Anonymousreply 6704/14/2013

R67, they did use his script, and his name is the sole credit. But they DID add-on to his ending, which did dramaticlly change the story so I can understand why he was upset.

by Anonymousreply 6804/14/2013

Courtney chose her ass instead of her face. Neve is holding together much, much better.

by Anonymousreply 6904/15/2013

Can we talk about the killer? Are we deep enough into the thread to post spoilers?

by Anonymousreply 7004/15/2013

Yes, R70.

by Anonymousreply 7104/15/2013

Oh yes R70

by Anonymousreply 7204/15/2013

The movies been out for two years now, if people are reading this without having seen the film, they should be expecting spoilers.

by Anonymousreply 7304/15/2013

I thought Jill was FABULOUS! She didn't give a fuck WHO died. Plus, her throwing herself through a glass coffee table is one of my favorite moments ever.

Did she kill her own mother? Or was that Charlie? I'm pretty sure Jill is the one who attacked Gale. And Charlie obviously killed Olivia.

by Anonymousreply 7404/15/2013

@74 "Did she kill her own mother?" Yeah, she admits it to Sid during the penultimate battle, saying something like "I killed my own mother, how fucked up is that?"

Was Emma as Jill playing herself?

by Anonymousreply 7604/15/2013

I think the cops were killed because the opportunity was there. They were goofing off and Adam Brody's cop had his back turned and the other was sitting in the car.

by Anonymousreply 7704/15/2013

Yeah, but teenagers would not have the brute force to drive a knife into Anthony Anderson's forehead. There's just no way she or he could have done that without getting shot first.

by Anonymousreply 7804/15/2013

I thought Scream 4 was awful. Finally, the franchise was played out.

It was the only one to tank at the b.o., too.

by Anonymousreply 7904/15/2013

Kim Kardashian = Jill Roberts

by Anonymousreply 8004/15/2013

Ashley Greene was originally cast as Jill. That would have been awful.

by Anonymousreply 8104/16/2013

True, R81. Also, Emma Roberts' casting was so inspired in retrospect, playing someone who grew up in the shadow of a much more famous family member.

The same goes for Rory Culkin, although his motive was a little different.

by Anonymousreply 8204/16/2013

I saw it due to this thread (didn't read it first, as I knew there would be spoilers). It was terrific, as was Neve (she's always been amazing as Syd). The dialogue was so crisp. I truly enjoyed Hayden's acting and her character. I was looking at Cox's face, thinking, "WTF? She's a spokesperson for beauty lines!" Does anybody know why Arquette gets top billing for this franchise?

by Anonymousreply 8304/17/2013

I think it's alphabetical, R83. It's been that way since the original.

by Anonymousreply 8404/17/2013

Gale does finally get a decent hairstyle, at least.

by Anonymousreply 8504/17/2013

by Anonymousreply 8604/21/2013

Is Kevin Williamson posting in this thread?

by Anonymousreply 8704/23/2013
Is Kevin Williamson posting in this thread?

He must be. I don't remember anyone liking S4 when it came out. I certainly didn't.

by Anonymousreply 8804/23/2013

I thought S4 was decent, at least compared to the other sequels.

Courtney Cox looks awful though in S3 and S4. I couldn't get over how terrible her makeup and face looked. They should have only shot her from wide shots.

The story line was predictable though. It was pretty obvious the minute Emma's character made mention of being Sidney's cousin but not really knowing her. I think she also mentions early on how tough it is to live in the shadows.

I think Emma did a decent job but I seriously only think that's because she tapped into her fame hungry self and would be just as ruthless to get Julia's fame... something she probably inherited from Julia.

by Anonymousreply 8904/23/2013

I do think that opening is better than the one they chose. Wonder why they changed it?

Sidenote.. Jennie and Marnie are kind of hot and I wouldn't mind seeing them les out together.

by Anonymousreply 9004/23/2013

Marnie (or whichever is the one who gets thrown thru the window) is super cute.

by Anonymousreply 9104/23/2013

Jada Pinkett Smith (Scream 2) is just the worst. Seriously, she's the worst thing in everything she does.

And Portia De Rossi? Who's bright idea was it to cast her as a co-ed? I realize she was around the age, give or take 5 years, but bitch looked like the House Mother who had been rode hard and put away wet.

by Anonymousreply 9204/23/2013

Jamie Kennedy is one ugly mother fucker.

by Anonymousreply 9304/23/2013

S2 was by far the best of the series in my unbiased opinion.

by Anonymousreply 9404/23/2013

How was R59's ending different than the one shown? It seemed the same to me.

by Anonymousreply 9504/24/2013

R95, it's completely different starting at the point when she comes back downstairs.

by Anonymousreply 9604/24/2013

I saw it in the theatre and the only thing I remember is the horrible performance of Emma Roberts. That girl is fugly and can't act.

by Anonymousreply 9704/24/2013

Why is it that Dewey never mentions, in any of the series, that is sister was brutally murdered?

by Anonymousreply 9804/24/2013

Someone should also mention the scariest part of Scream 2 was Portia's eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 9904/24/2013

R98, he does in both 2 and 3.

by Anonymousreply 10004/24/2013

David Arquette... watching him in the Scream movies makes me want to make out with him. No sex. Just making out. Well, and maybe some fondling, but that's all.

by Anonymousreply 10104/24/2013

Remember when David Arquette and Drew Barrymore played high schoolers in Never Been Kissed? LOL, how convincing.

by Anonymousreply 10204/25/2013

Drew was an undercover reporter. She was convincing as that,

by Anonymousreply 10304/25/2013

What the hell? MTV has ordered a Scream pilot.

by Anonymousreply 10404/25/2013

How would they keep up a SCREAM series?

by Anonymousreply 10504/25/2013
Remember when David Arquette and Drew Barrymore played high schoolers in Never Been Kissed? LOL, how convincing.

The whole fucking point of that movie was that they weren't really high school students.

by Anonymousreply 10604/25/2013

A Scream series would probably be something like Pretty Little Liars.

by Anonymousreply 10704/25/2013
The whole fucking point of that movie was that they weren't really high school students.

Yeah, that's why I said "played high schoolers". They were convincing enough to fool everyone.

by Anonymousreply 10804/26/2013

by Anonymousreply 10904/26/2013

I loved Scream 3. The violence was toned down which sucked but that was because of real life killings, but I thought the big final act was great just for Scott Foley. He had such great lines " I never dreamed they would make a movie of their own...and what a movie it turned out to be"

by Anonymousreply 11007/29/2013

Scream 4 sucked and Emma Roberts is a HORRIBLE actress.

by Anonymousreply 11107/29/2013

She's not very good, but she was perfect for this role, her lack of depth an actress really aided the whole desensitized fame seeking routine. Bling Ring meets slasher flic.

by Anonymousreply 11207/29/2013

Scream 4

by Anonymousreply 11307/29/2013

What I didnt like about the opening of SCREAM 4 was the actresses. They both seemed like they were 14. I would have preferred less of the big boobs and more of a plain Jane with brains. Make the killer have to work for the kill. In fact I wish the teenagers in the film were more down to earth. Olivia's death was great, but she just looked like a porn star.

by Anonymousreply 11407/29/2013

Who had big boobs R114? Not Emma. Not Hayden.

by Anonymousreply 11507/29/2013

I love that when Emma Roberts' character is discussing the alternatives to being a psychotic famewhore, the that is especially an anathema to her is having to work after going to college.

by Anonymousreply 11607/29/2013

Neve was still the best part of Scream IV.

by Anonymousreply 11707/29/2013

I really didn't like the film all that much until the ending. I really think they had the opportunity to go somewhere truly interesting in the next sequel had they killed off Sidney and made Jill the new Sidney.

Just imagine if she'd gotten away with it and become the "final girl" only to discover it's not all it's cracked up to be when the killer returns and begins stalking her. That would be awesome, but nooooo they just had to keep everyone alive and wrap it in a nice little bow. It's so strange that the first film and even the second were so ballsy by brutally killing characters like Casey and Randy, but with part 3, they lost their balls completely. I mean, I love Dewey and everything, but that dude should have been dead at the end of Scream 2. Surviving one stab wound in part one? Sure. But surviving an attack that bloody and vicious in part 2? No fuckin' way!

by Anonymousreply 11807/29/2013

R118, the original ending that Kevin Williamson wrote was just that. Jill kills Sidney and the movie ends with her being a "hero" and no one none the wiser.

Fr whatever reason they changed their mind and Ehren Krueger came in and wrote the new ending.

by Anonymousreply 11907/29/2013

Ugh! That just makes me even more angry. That could have really been something. That Kirby character that everybody loved so much could have still been alive and she could have made a return. She was stabbed by Charlie after all, so she still didn't know Jill was involved.

It could have been really neat. Such a shame.

by Anonymousreply 12007/29/2013

Dewey surviving the second stabbing was part of the joke r118. And are you sure you meant to write Casey, because how was it ballsy that she was killed off? By having the character played by Drew Barrymore?

by Anonymousreply 12107/29/2013

He talks about it here:

by Anonymousreply 12207/29/2013

Yep. Meant Casey. It's really more the way in which she was killed. So vicious, not to mention that she was being played by Barrymore. It was just very surprising and still is. What a way to open a movie.

by Anonymousreply 12307/29/2013

Drew was really good. Here's her death scene.

by Anonymousreply 12407/29/2013

Sydney was the ultimate survivor, we can't just kill her. I agree though, Dewey should be dead by now. I need Gale to be back on top though!

by Anonymousreply 12507/29/2013

R118 That was the whole point, and an homage to Hitchcock's Psycho.

Drew, the biggest star of the cast at that time, was the most prominantly featured person on the movie poster. No one expected her to be killed, especially so early in the film. Just like Janet Leigh in Psycho.

by Anonymousreply 12607/29/2013

R125 is right.

by Anonymousreply 12707/29/2013

If not kill her, at least make it seem like Jill killed her only to have them reveal that she's still kickin' at the end on life support. That would have been a delicious little zinger to end the film with.

The whole hospital fight was too similar to that goofy Black Christmas remake, which, coincidentally was also a Dimension release spoiled by too many cooks in the kitchen.

by Anonymousreply 12807/30/2013

OMG I love this film, it was one of the best horror films I encountered in theatres in 2011, followed only by Insidious (which has the displeasure of not featuring Patrick Wilson's naked ass).

I loved the opening so much, and the male eye candy on display was nice, mainly Erik Knudsen (where the hell did he come from?), Adam Brody (still delicious after all these years), Nico Tortorella (Good lord that is one beautiful boy, wish he was in the film more often), and David Arquette (where the hell did he come from?)

by Anonymousreply 12907/30/2013

The MTV series should be set in our real world, with a murderer inspired by the Scream movies in a town named Woodsboro.

by Anonymousreply 13007/30/2013

Just watched it on Netflix, it was way better than I thought it was going to be. I enjoy seeing Neve and Adam again.

by Anonymousreply 13107/30/2013

I know the Scream film series was all about meta, but I can only take so much meta. I'd OD on it if the show was like that.

by Anonymousreply 13207/30/2013
...and Sidney as Helen of Troy.

Actually, Sidney was playing Cassandra. Not that it really matters, I'm just anal that way.

The "gay kid" is Eric Knudsen and can currently be seen as one of the leads on [italic]Continuum[/italic] on SyFy. And for what it's worth, I always assumed he was lying about being gay so he wouldn't get killed.

by Anonymousreply 13307/30/2013

^ No you are right about Cassandra, I was going crazy too. They need to keep making these movies, but I can't stand these studios casting. People may say Neve is boring, but I think she's great because she has a maturity (and has always had it), that you just don't see in a horror movie.

I believe in Sydney because of her. Gale is such a powerhouse and I honestly don't care how old she gets, I hate the whole loosing steam, give up fame Gale. It doesn't suit her.

by Anonymousreply 13407/30/2013

R134 - You are right about Neve having maturity even when she was young. She had a great presence even back in the original and PO5.

by Anonymousreply 13507/31/2013

R134 Oh, you're not going crazy, you're a full blown nut.

by Anonymousreply 13607/31/2013

Guess I am.

by Anonymousreply 13707/31/2013

You're not a nut R134
