I can't believe no one posted this yet; here's a NY Times article on yet another step of the Anthony Weiner Comeback Tour. I was a bit surprised that the NYT didn't really dwell much on what an a-hole he was perceived to before the scandal, which was why none of his colleagues were in his corner when the shit hit the fan. Huma comes off like a saint, though the cynic in me senses that by rehabilitating Anthony and getting him elected mayor, that gets her back in the spotlight.
Anthony Weiner: The Comeback Tour

What he did wasn't that egregious. In fact, he was probably set-up, ala John Edwards.
But he should wait a while. Join the Peace Corps or something.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||04/10/2013|
His wife is a ducking doormat who seems more obsessed with fame than he is. That article did neither any favors.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||04/10/2013|
NO WAY!!! She should ditch his ass, he's weighing her down.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||04/10/2013|
Anyone but that fat annoying ass kissing phony witch dyke Quinn!
|by Anonymous||reply 5||04/10/2013|
r1, tell us what you think would be "egregious" enough for a politician not to run again, since you don't think that tweeting close-ups of your dick to women he didn't know qualifies.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||04/10/2013|
I'd vote for him but he does not deserve Huma. What is he doing for a job right now?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||04/10/2013|
The Weiner has $4 million left from his last failed campaign. If he does run $1.3 million more will be available in matching funds.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||04/10/2013|
Let him run, he won't win and hopefully, he will then go away for good!
|by Anonymous||reply 9||04/10/2013|
Ugh. He should just fuck off. I hated the way he handled himself once the scandal yet.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||04/10/2013|
Well, not that R6. Child porn, rape, fraud.
Do you know how many men send dick picks to women they hardly know?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||04/10/2013|
Weiner could've run against the supposedly invincible Bloomberg in 2010, but he wimped out. Bill Thompson came within one percentage point of beating Bloomberg who outspent him a zillion to one. Don't think much of Tony for that lack of courage, plus New York does not need a screaming dramatic person for mayor.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||04/10/2013|
"Do you know how many men send dick picks to women they hardly know?"
EVERYBODY does it, so it's cool!
|by Anonymous||reply 13||04/10/2013|
Amazing. A thread full of queens who routinely post links to porn, including hidden camera stuff, and YOU are judging him???
C'mon Marys...you've all done MUCH worse, of that I'm sure. But he is a true liberal who had to be taken down, and the DL conservatives just love judging him.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||04/10/2013|
The article's long but so car-accident fascinating. The highlight is when he says he wishes he was sexually abused so he'd have an easy way to explain his behavior. Not kidding! Also, he never once admits that he sent the pictures because he wanted to fuck women other than his wife. It was all about his self-esteem and sharing feelings in a way his family never did, and his addiction to fame. Or something. Anyhow, I don't think this piece is going to do what he hopes it will do.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||04/10/2013|
Politicians should be smarter, particularly straight married ones.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||04/10/2013|
Once the story broke, Weiner should have said he did a dumb, fratboy thing, made a self-deprecating joke about it, and moved on. His desperate and stupid attempts at a cover-up just made it worse and kept the story in the headlines.
He was good congressman and his corrosive wit scared Rethug bullies. I still remember him making fun of them for trying to kill subversive NPR shows like "Car Talk."
|by Anonymous||reply 17||04/10/2013|
That's the point, R16. Nobody really cares about the pictures he sent. But the fact that he had so little judgment as to send them shows that he's not fit to make decisions about other people's business (& on a huge scale -- NYC isn't Mayberry).
Not unlike Pres. Clinton deciding that it would be fine for him to spend some time getting blowjobs in the Oval Office. The blowjobs weren't the issue -- the quality of his judgment was.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||04/10/2013|
Didn't he also make some comments about being bi? It was at the time he was coming up with all kinds of silly excuses.
I still don't see why he had to go when David Vitter is still in Congress. Democrats spoke out against Weiner but the same people were silent about Vitter.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||04/10/2013|
R19, I said it at the time, and I'll say it again: nothing Vitter did was caught on video or captured on camera.
He was not arrested or otherwise cited, as Larry Craig was. Vitter mostly clammed up; he never went on a lying rampage as Wiener did.
Vitter is a terrible representative and execrable human being. As his constituent, I wish he'd fall down a well.
BUT he knew the American people's laziness and short attention span, he knew weak Dems wouldn't go after him, he knew his madam would be neutralized. He played the game extremely well, god damn him.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||04/11/2013|
[quote]nothing Vitter did was caught on video or captured on camera
Vitter's shenanigans involved consenting adults.
Congressman Weiner engaged women in conversation then sent them erotic pics without telling the recipients or asking them first if they wanted to see them. It's akin to wearing nothing but underpants beneath a raincoat and flashing unsuspecting female witnesses on the subway.
Besides, the Mayor of NYC commands a huge police force. Before coming clean, Congressman Weiner threatened to sic the cops on journalists who bothered him with questions. Would you want him to have the NYPD at his beck and call to suppress reporters who might have some dirt on him?
|by Anonymous||reply 22||04/11/2013|
He needs to give us all a break and just get a job already.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||04/11/2013|
He has set himself up for ridicule of his dick. That is not a winning strategy. All his opponent has to down is issue buttons with his dick on them, and nothing else. And it's a small one.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||04/11/2013|
Weiner is a textbook psychopath. He would never be good in a leadership position. He's an empty suit.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||04/11/2013|
r12, In 2009, Bloomberg got 51% of the vote and Thompson Jr got 46%.
As of this moment, I'd consider voting for Wiener -- the rest of the pack is absolutely underwhelming.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||04/11/2013|
I wonder if a Jewish/Muslim couple confounds some people in NYC.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||04/11/2013|
There is a lot of hate building up against Christine Quinn, so if he got in the race he'd be a serious contender.
Anyone named Weiner should have been more careful.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||04/11/2013|
Did the NYT piece about Quinn create a bit of a groundswell against her?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||04/11/2013|
I doubt the majority of people in NYC give a rats ass about their religions, r30, except for types like the one referred to in r24's post.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||04/11/2013|
R22, consenting adults or no, prostitution is illegal in the US, except for the two towns in NV.
I'm not defending Weiner, btw. Though he made for good TV/radio, as a Representative he was as ineffective as Vitter.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||04/11/2013|
[quote]he (Vitter) knew weak Dems wouldn't go after him
The Dems in DC have no balls. They sit back and let Pubbies stomp them but when they could do the same, they sit there in silence.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||04/11/2013|
Some people just don't know when it's time to shut up and disappear.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||04/11/2013|
More typical Narcissistic behavior.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||04/11/2013|
Jonathan van Meter is the Queen of the Puff Piece.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||04/11/2013|
I like his positions on the issues and to a certain extent I liked his attack dog style. Then the stories about how awful he was to work with starting coming out- then his pathetic twitter scandal. He just seems like such a jerk which makes it very hard for me to vote for him.
I have seen Quinn speak a number of times in NYC at various events. She comes off well. I met her briefly at the last HRC dinner and she was OK- then I read that terrible piece in the NY Times of all places on her. Again it makes it very hard to vote for her.
Now Clinton- he was always likable despite his pig behavior and I could always see that his convictions and will do do good was intact if he had trouble keeping his zipper up.
Should be an interesting mayoral campaign in NYC.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||04/11/2013|
R1. Edwards is a cunt of the highest order. No set up there.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||04/11/2013|
Quinn's sleazier than Weiner could ever hope to be.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||04/11/2013|
Clinton was a brilliant man who was brought down by his libido; however, he worked his ass off to restore his legacy.
Weiner is looking at Sanford and thinking, "If he can do it...", but what he fails to realize is that New Yorkers aren't fucking idiots. The yokels in South Carolina might be fooled...but Weiner has a long way to go before he can be taken seriously again.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||04/11/2013|
[quote]Clinton was a brilliant man who was brought down by his libido
Clinton wasn't brought down no matter how hard the Pubbies tried. He served a full eight years and from the day he left office has been welcomed by freedom-loving people around the globe.
Contrast that with Dubya, who kept his sex exploits hidden (Guckert/Gannon) and can't leave the U.S. because there are war crimes indictments waiting for him in other countries.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||04/11/2013|
I'm not so sure, r43. I think New Yorkers are pretty forgiving of sexual hijinks. I think most NYers have something private about their sex lives they don't want made public.
The mistake he made when he was 'exposed' was fudging about it. If he (or if Spitzer) had said "Yeah, I did it. I was monumentally stupid. It was wrong." from the start, they might have both not been forced to resign.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||04/11/2013|
It's also not a 'minus' that people know Weiner has a lean, muscular, fit body and a huge, thick cock.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||04/11/2013|
[quote]What he did wasn't that egregious.
The sext itself was not that egregious: but how he handled it was. He lied and lied repeatedly (to her and to other people), and got obnoxiously belligerent when reporters asked him about it.
In this piece, I thought both of them come across as unbelievably self-obsessed. They think about themselves constantly: how they are perceived, who they are, what their resumes mean, etc. He cannot speak without talking in this weird kind of politico-speak: everything's about "the frame" or whatever meme they've been shooting around lately.
He is not ft to be mayor, in my opinion. Another egomaniac who thinks he's destined to rule the little people in the last thing NYC needs.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||04/11/2013|
[quote]It's also not a 'minus' that people know Weiner has a lean, muscular, fit body and a huge, thick cock.
That he is willing to share with other women while his pregnant wife suspects nothing.

The following is a fascinating comment to the NY Times article taken from the Times' own page:
"Reading Margaret Thatcher's obituary, one thing that stood out was how she treated her staff, especially its junior members. She might excoriate civil service bureaucrats, call cabinet ministers "vegetables" and "wets" to their faces but towards those who toiled for her behind the scenes she behaved with great circumspection and self-restraint, and often kindness. This, although she was Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister of England. Was it because she never ceased to be a grocer's daughter who grew up above his store?
I mention this seemingly unrelated story in her obituary because I remember reading about how Rep. Weiner treated his staff in a Wall Street Journal article: abominably. Berated them in public. Threw things at them, even telephones. Tantrums. Firings. Why? Because they'd displeased him in some way. Or they hadn't measured up to his "standards". Of course, since then we've discovered what Rep. Weiner's standards really were; and then some. I haven't forgotten the public relations disaster after his sexting messages surfaced. His empty protestations of innocence. Absurd conspiracy theories. All lies.
Lies. Damned lies. Blatant, unrepentant lies.
I also remember how he humiliated his lovely wife.
Why pursue public office? What's the point? Bloomberg, I think I understand. Restless, relentless and vastly wealthy already (why money never factored into it), he needed an outlet, something big to do. And he sought validation.
What motivates Weiner?"
|by Anonymous||reply 49||04/12/2013|
For all the ABQ (Anyone But Quinn) brigade, "The Weiner" is your man. Her only election was in Chelsea. He's had experience in Congress and got things done for his constituents.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||04/12/2013|
Wiener is one stupid Jew.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||04/12/2013|
" ..But the fact that he had so little judgment as to send them shows that he's not fit to make decisions about other people's business (& on a huge scale -- NYC isn't Mayberry)."
Agree completely w/r17 & r18 - he's an idiot for running so soon.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||04/12/2013|
Weiner's wife is fucking Hillary. Or at least she was.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||04/12/2013|
The FBI will check for Huma's DNA in Hill's jock strap.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||04/12/2013|
[quote] It's also not a 'minus' that people know Weiner has a lean, muscular, fit body and a huge, thick cock.
I still think he's amazingly hot. And I don't care who he fucks or who he shows his cock to.
But this is pearl-clutching America, where we condone shitty policy, warmongering and cutting off people's livelihood....but dag gummit, if you show someone your penis you're a MONSTER!
|by Anonymous||reply 55||04/12/2013|
and where oh where are the unblurred photos of his big, beautiful cock???
|by Anonymous||reply 56||04/12/2013|
yeah where can I see photos of Weiner's wiener?
|by Anonymous||reply 57||04/13/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 58||04/13/2013|
R49, funny you posted that comment. Pundits consider the lack of troops willing to rally behind Weiner as a barrier to his plans. Whereas Clinton has maintained an expanding group of loyalists over the years, very few of Weiner's former staffers are willing to join him in his Quixotic fantasy.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||04/13/2013|
"His big, beautiful cock?" "Mouthwatering bulge?" You queens need an eye exam, because Weiner's weiner is not all that.
Personally, I find this little lizard-faced asshole repulsive for MANY reasons. He's a nasty piece of work. I hope his attempt at a "comeback" crashes and burns.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||04/13/2013|
I suppose everyone deserves a second chance, but that doesn't mean the second chance should be becoming mayor of New York City. Weiner screwed up big time, so maybe something a bit lower profile might be more appropriate if he needs to make a living.
