I think she would be a great choice.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||04/01/2013|
Aw, let's give her a break.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||04/01/2013|
Perhaps she has breast cancer and needs the radiation.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||04/01/2013|
Lol at r3
|by Anonymous||reply 4||04/01/2013|
I'll never get the hilarity of her talking tour when she wanted to be appointed Senator. She went up state. Wearing one of those neck to ankle down coats the fraus love. When people and reporters approached her she actually ran away and hid. It was fucking hilarious.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||04/01/2013|
I don't get it. Of all the countries, why...Japan?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||04/01/2013|
What an odd pick. I guess Obama figured the Japanese are too respectful to pick on an inarticulate dilettante.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||04/01/2013|
She is a Kennedy and that is good enough for me.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||04/01/2013|
I've got dibs on Atlantis!
|by Anonymous||reply 9||04/01/2013|
Our beloved David Muir interviewed her on ABC News this evening and she said "you know" at least 10 times in a 60 second snippet. You'd think after the beating she took during her brief Senate campaign, she would try be somewhat more articulate. Sarah Palin gives a better interview for gods sake! How did this dopey woman graduate from Harvard?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||04/01/2013|
In its report tonight, NBC referred to Caroline's diplomatic ancestry including her grandfather, the vile Joe Kennedy. But having chosen to raise this background, the report made no mention of his work to undermine the Allies' efforts against the Nazis! The MSM's love affair with the Kennedys can be quite maddening.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||04/01/2013|
She's dumb to take that job. She's going to glow in the dark when she gets finished with her tour of duty in Japan. That whole place is a nuclear wasteland.
The water, the food, the air, everything. THe soil. No way would I go to Japan for a visit much less live there for two or three years.
They want to reward her, send her to Great Britain. Or Ireland. At least there's precedent for that. Japan's a bad idea. Plus it's strategic placement makes it too important for amateurs.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||04/01/2013|
I read that her husband will not be joining her. Does anyone know the state of her marriage? There were rumors of an affair wih the publisher of the NY Times.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||04/01/2013|
She's a fucking stupid cunt.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||04/01/2013|
[quote]I think she would be a great choice.by: Bravo!
For fuck's sake, WHY? Because of her extensive knowledge of Japanese culture and history and language? Because of her extensive diplomatic work? or because of her beautiful eloquence when speaking to large groups?
You can't think of a SINGLE reason why she should be in this role other than because she's wealthy and famous.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||04/01/2013|
The Kennedy women are modern-day geishas, so this will work out quite well for her.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||04/01/2013|
She is a member of America's royal family and that makes her automatically qualified to be the Ambassador.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||04/01/2013|
I don't think she's stupid. She was born into the spotlight and she doesn't have a public personality. She's not comfortable speaking in public.
She's a lawyer,an author, and she is wealthy. She has also acquitted herself well with charitable support for the arts and for education, so her resume, along with the fact she's the daughter of a POTUS, makes her prime Ambassador material.
I just don't think Japan is a good move. She worked damned hard for Obama and he certainly owes her something. But I'd offer her the UK or Ireland. Her grandfather was FDR's U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James and she is of Irish ancestry. Then there's her French side, Bouvier. She has options.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||04/01/2013|
She'd be replacing a Silicon Valley CEO in the job (who was also, presumably, a major fundraiser).
I know this is standard practice, but I have very little patience with the idea that major campaign supporters should get plum jobs over career diplomats.
She's a perfectly smart woman, but she's done nothing to earn the job except raise money.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||04/01/2013|
Maybe she's desperate to meet Maru?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||04/01/2013|
I don't get the Kennedy hate--but hey, this is DL.
The post is not for someone with a docotorate in Japanese. What the hell qualifies any ambassador? They are friends with benefits--and in the case of Obama, Caroline Kennedy's endorsement went a long, long way to helping him overcome Hillary.
I call bullshit on the interview. Please. Bad enough when the right lies, but the left...
|by Anonymous||reply 21||04/01/2013|
She's not any great shakes, I agree, but these ambassadorships are in many cases given to people like Caroline Kennedy.
As in: big donors, corporate supporters, allies who get a reward.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||04/01/2013|
[quote]Maybe she's desperate to meet Maru?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||04/01/2013|
No one except stupid Bostonian Irish Catholic housewives over the age of 60 believe in the "America's royal family" bullshit anymore.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||04/01/2013|
Why did she ever apply (and get admitted) to Columbia Law School?
Wasn't her senior thesis at Radcliffe on Roman Gardens?
And then she wrote that book on the Bills of Rights with that ugly Jewish classmate of hers!
|by Anonymous||reply 25||04/01/2013|
You insects should leave Caroline alone. Half of you dropped out of Junior College and the other half of you are waiters. Your achievements in life will never come close to the achievements of Caroline Kennedy.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||04/01/2013|
Hell, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland is a used-car dealer from Virginia who gave Obama a lot of money. A used-car dealer.. classy.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||04/01/2013|
You know one would think Caroline Kennedy would have learned from her previous brief experience in politics that she is not good at it. Why not make her ambassador to a nice friendly European country where she can do no harm...say Sweden or The Netherland? You know Japan seems out of her league.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||04/01/2013|
That's what I thought, too, R24. And then I became aware of her lovely son, Jack Schlossberg. She has produced the uber-Kennedy, and Barack is rewarding her for it.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||04/01/2013|
Caroline's son is hot, he's around my age and I had a dream he was my roommate. He came in the room drunk and I slowly stuck my black dick inside his pink hole and pounded him with satisfaction knowing i had been inside of a Kennedy.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||04/01/2013|
I think I'm going to have that same dream tonight, R30. Do you go to Yale?
|by Anonymous||reply 31||04/01/2013|
A few months ago, I heard that Caroline Kennedy was going to be named ambassador to Canada. I guess things have changed, and now it's Japan.
By the way, how do you say, "like" and "uhhmm" in Japanese?
|by Anonymous||reply 32||04/02/2013|
Ah, so, des, uh, ka...
|by Anonymous||reply 33||04/02/2013|
I just don't understand the Caroline hate here. She's done nothing to warrant it. She isn't anti-gay, anti-equality...sure, she's had doors opened because of her name. But geez, she's in her 50s now, made a life for herself. You want to attack some politician's spawn with no talent that skates by, try Meghan McCain.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||04/02/2013|
I wonder which Pokemon she'll choose?
Pikachu? Arbok? Jigglypuff?
If she needs help with speaking, I recommend a Wobuffet.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||04/02/2013|
I cry for happy, Mr. eddie's faddah
|by Anonymous||reply 36||04/02/2013|
With all the shit going on with North Korea, Japan is strategically very important. There is no way sending Caroline to Japan will be seen as Obama taking things as seriously as they are.
Even the Secretary General of the U.N. made an unprecedented public comment today about North Korea. He said this is no joke, and people need to understand that North Korea isn't posturing, they are serious.
We've even started movong our military operations to strategicaly prepare for a possible incursion. I think he needs to send her to Ireland. Or the UK. Or France. Or Spain. Or Italy. Yes, I'm a broken record, but shit.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||04/02/2013|
Didn't Dubya make an old "roommate" ambassador?
|by Anonymous||reply 38||04/02/2013|
I want to be clear. I don't have any problem at all with Obama appointing Caroline as ambassador to something. Or even a special position in government.
She has fine credentials, she worked hard for hm to get elected, and there is ample precedent for wealthy people of accomplishment to become ambassadors.
If she were a man with the same credentials, there'd be no concerns expressed. Just not Japan. I think they need a real specialist, or some one with expertise in a given area to take on that job right at this time. Period. I'd even consider someone like Wesley Clarke.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||04/02/2013|
As if "real specialists" get anything in the govt. It is all connected people, pals, people bought by corporations.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||04/02/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 41||04/02/2013|
[quote]Aw, let's give her a break.
Yes, by all means frau, let's applaud her. Because, you know, she's so incredibly qualified: being that she's white, rich and from a famous family... Oh, and that she raised a lot of money for President Obama.
Just think of all those other otherwise worthy, experienced Democrats who've dedicated their lives to diplomacy, so many who could have been called on, who were deserving and actually KNOW something about Japan. Who do those rubes think they are anyway? YEAH!
Caroline uh, ya know, well Kennedy is the peoples' ambassador! How dare anyone else stake a claim!?
|by Anonymous||reply 42||04/02/2013|
She's probably a pacifist. I don't know if that is the appropriate appointment for Japan at this time.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||04/02/2013|
My objection is that after she left the White House, Jackie Kennedy very rarely helped Democratic Party candidates. Her only political friend seemed to have been Lady Bird Johnson. Caroline was MIA as well, until Obama.
To be fair, JFK, Jr. was somewhat involved with Democratic politics. On a whole, as a presidential political family, I can not think of any other in the 20th century who were less involved.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||04/02/2013|
[quote] Jackie Kennedy very rarely helped Democratic Party candidates.
She was, though, very instrumental in turning her friend Robert McNamara, the Kennedy-Johnson Sec'y of Defense, against the Vietnam War.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||04/02/2013|
R45: I give her great credit on McNamara. But, Pres. Johnson had stopping listened to him by late 1967. It was really the next Sec. of Defense, Clark Clifford, whom Johnson trusted. And Clifford turned against the war just weeks after he replaced McNamara.
I understand that Jackie was never particularly interested in politics, but that was true of other First Ladies & they got better and better at it as they tried. I wonder if JK had lived whether she would have finally gotten more involved during his 2nd term.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||04/03/2013|
She'll have a nice pad, not to mention perks
How are all the career foreign service officers serving under her going to feel?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||04/03/2013|
I mean, will she even actually do anything as ambassador, will she come into the office everyday, or will she just chill at the ambassador's mansion and accept dignataries when she has to? What could she do? Everything is going to have to be performed by a shadow ambassador and team
|by Anonymous||reply 48||04/03/2013|
Ambassador to Japan is a "thank you" post. It's to thank her for her support for Obama. She'll probably do well.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||04/03/2013|
I agree, Japan is too important for a novice. Make her Ambassador to The Vatican or Luxembourg.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||04/03/2013|
You all seem to think an ambassador does nothing but serve tea all day. It's more like running a large company.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||04/03/2013|
She is dreadfully inarticulate. Sarah Palin seems like a Rhodes Scholar comparatively.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||04/03/2013|
Sarah Palin is also way hotter. Sarah was in a tight pair of jeans when she appeared at CPAC recently and was simply smoking hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||04/03/2013|
yeah, don't ambassadors have to entertain and socialize all the time with dinner parties etc?
maybe she'll grow into it. I think she's more REAL, not phony like all politicians so it's hard for her to kiss ass or whatever the politicians do.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||04/03/2013|
She is more to be pitied than censured. Many children of celebrities (including Presidential children) wither and even die in the shadow of their parents' fame. Caroline had not one but two parents who were legends in their own time. I'd say she's done well just to remain sane, stable, and useful.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||04/03/2013|
I am eagerly awaiting Caroline's arrival.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||04/03/2013|
Nobody has commented on the fact that her agent is Esther Newberg? Newberg was at the party the night of Chappaquiddick and, though supposedly a friend of Mary Jo Kopechne's, totally clammed up to protect Teddy.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||04/03/2013|
Her grandfather,Joseph P. Kennedy, noted businessman, bootlegger,Hollywood mogul, Nazi sympathizer, and lobotomy enthusiatist, was once Ambassador to The Court of St. James .
Since genetics are the one obligatory requirement in diplomacy she should do very well.
Until, following in the family tradition, she publicly declares her admiration for North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, and announces that democracy is dead, then Obama will yank her Irish catholic ass back across the Pacific before she does anymore damage.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||04/03/2013|
Her grandfather was also the Ambassador to a country which was the prime target of a powerful militaristic state which he advocated appeasement in the delicate years that preceded WW2....but what are the odds of that happening AGAIN ?
|by Anonymous||reply 59||04/03/2013|
There was a rumour that she was going to be appointed Ambassador to Canada ( at least here in the Canadian press)
That's considered the prized plum and easiest of the US diplomatic corp postings , and usually only goes to the most generous supporter of the President.
Does that mean Obama will appoint Oprah to Ottawa ?
|by Anonymous||reply 60||04/03/2013|
R55: Actually presidential children have done quite well, except for those of FDR. One even became president himself thirteen years ago.
Lynda Bird Robb, LBJ's daughter, has far more poltical experience, guess she did not endorse Pres. Obama.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||04/03/2013|
[quote] But having chosen to raise this background, the report made no mention of his work to undermine the Allies' efforts against the Nazis
Why would they? They refused to mention Prescott Bush's Nazi ties when George H and George W Bush ran for president, or during their presidencies. They won't mention it if JEB or George the Little Dark One runs for president.
Nazi ties to American presidential politics remain strangely invisible to the US media.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||04/03/2013|
Why not the UK? She has a house in London.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||04/03/2013|
Yeah, the "liberal" US media, R62. LMAO.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||04/03/2013|
Hopefully she will be a better ambassador than her brother was a pilot.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||04/03/2013|
[quote] That whole place is a nuclear wasteland. The water, the food, the air, everything. THe soil. No way would I go to Japan for a visit much less live there for two or three years.
Seriously. Why would anyone who had a choice go there?
|by Anonymous||reply 66||04/03/2013|
My eyes zinged back and forth, desperately looking for a date on that newspaper page. Ah, at last! Thank God.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||04/03/2013|
It's not an April fool joke
|by Anonymous||reply 68||04/03/2013|
Just about everyone she will meet in Japan speaks better English than she does. She got the job because someone told Obama that they're "still gaga about the Kennedy's over there."
|by Anonymous||reply 69||04/08/2013|
Well they are R69,at least to see NHK World.
|by Anonymous||reply 70||04/09/2013|
