Does anyone take a ferry to work?

I wish I did.

by Anonymousreply 2404/01/2013

I do, OP!

I used to give a ride to a slightly girly coworker who lived in my neighborhood, but I don't work for that company anymore.

Does that count?

by Anonymousreply 204/01/2013

Every damn day.

I used to just about every day from home to work and school and back. But I've moved and besides it was only across the Willamette River north of Salem, Oregon.

I used to take the ferry from Atlantic Highlands to Manhattan. My office was on 8th Ave so that meant I had to walk to the other side of the island after getting off. But it beat riding NJ Transit.

The go live on Vashon Island, OP, and you can ferry to Seattle.

Or the Toronto Islands

Or Staten Island

Or Alameda, Calif.

Lots of places have river ferries, although I think they may not be the experience you are after.

I spent three years in Vallejo, commuting by ferry five days a week to SF. I hated it at first, but I began to enjoy it after about six months. It was just short of an hour, which gave me two hours a day of uninterrupted reading time, and it was never really super crowded, because I had slightly off-peak work hours.

OP wants links of course.

The Bainbridge ferry.

If you can find a job in Galveston, live on the Bolivar Peninsula and take the ferry to work.

I have a friend who lives in Staten Island and I occasionally take the ferry to visit him. It's crowded, gross and smelly.

And the ferry's no treat, either.

by Anonymousreply 1404/01/2013

r14's friend lives ON Staten Island, IN a neighborhood like Meyers Corner or Emerson Hill.

I take it from jersey city to NYC every day-- I love it!!

by Anonymousreply 1604/01/2013

Oh, NO!

When feeling ambitious, from SF, I take BART, then the ferry to Larkspur, then a bus to work. Makes for a very long day, so I usually carpool.

I take a ferry across Sydney Harbour and under the bridge everyday. It's better than driving across the damned bridge!

Someone needs to start "Take a Fairy to Work Day."

The only pleasant ferry commute I can imagine is one in which I work as a contract landscaping consultant for Disney World and travel across the water feature from my apartment at one of its upper-end resorts every day, before any guests arrive.

My friend's admin takes the ferry from the rock to the FiDi every day.

by Anonymousreply 2204/01/2013

Poor people take public transport. Why don't you have drivers?

by Anonymousreply 2304/01/2013

R21 Where on the property was that? I know that there are actually homes on the north side of Bay Lake.
