Why isn't he more present in entertainment? He is doing only 1 comedy club date this year (June in Atlantic City) and the last time he was on the view on December 2012... Does he choose not to work?
|by Anonymous||reply 51||04/17/2013|
because he is th4e most untalented and unfunny person alive. The less of him the better

[quote]Does he choose not to work?
Work does not choose him.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||03/30/2013|
Maybe he is taking time off. Quite honestly, I don't see the appeal he has. He seems like a relic from another era.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||03/30/2013|
Sadly, I knew him when was starting out. He was a shameless insanely pushy self-promoter. But when he got the chance, he was lousy. Loud energy is only the beginning, you need to be able to write or buy funny material and it helps to be distinctive rather than just another screaming stereotype.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||03/30/2013|
Mario is damn funny. He's been partnered for 20 years. Maybe he doesn't want to work.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||03/30/2013|
R6 Won't he need gender reassignment surgery first?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||03/30/2013|
Why R7 ? They had that one guy on the show for years. Whats his name....? O yea. Barbara Walters, that's him.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||03/30/2013|
He's got a lot of genuine talent, actually, as a mimic and as a singer. But he's too loud and obnoxious and aggressive--it comes across as too much.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||03/30/2013|
I think he's funny, especially when he does the Betty Davis impression after her stroke.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||03/30/2013|
Bette Davis, how original!
|by Anonymous||reply 11||03/30/2013|
His imitations are all of people from the 60s and 70s and 80s.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||03/30/2013|
This takes balls, but he nails it.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||03/30/2013|
He probably does a lot of private functions.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||03/30/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 16||03/30/2013|
Yes, Gramps at r13.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||03/30/2013|
Even his kiddie show from the '80s was very, very gay.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||03/30/2013|
[quote]Won't he need gender reassignment surgery first?
They have Guy Day Friday now, adding a full time guy is no big deal. It's a talk show, nothing is law.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||03/30/2013|
[quote] Mario is damn funny. He's been partnered for 20 years. Maybe he doesn't want to work.
He's in an open relationship... shocking I know
|by Anonymous||reply 20||03/30/2013|
I like them
|by Anonymous||reply 21||03/30/2013|
He lives somewhere near me in Chelsea.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||03/30/2013|
His only equal as a comic is Dick Cheney.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||03/30/2013|
He and Willie Garson should be waterboarded for their gay Stepin Fetchit performances on SATC.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||03/30/2013|
blame his manager Bill Butler...people he manage seem to disappear
|by Anonymous||reply 25||03/30/2013|
I saw him when he was substituting for Nathan Lane in "Love! Valour! Compassion!" One of the few Broadway shows I've seen that didn't have Nathan Lane in them. Or Lewis J. Stradlen, for some reason.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||03/30/2013|
So what DID happen to Liza's Gun Sister Aunties?
|by Anonymous||reply 27||03/30/2013|
because he acts like a loud, jewish yenta and his act is old and tired. his audience is very limited because of that and a little of him goes a long way. plus, the network shows are probably trying to get away from the "queenie" people and putting in entertainers that appeal to a wider audience.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||03/31/2013|
I think this guy is so annoying and not that funny, but I have to say he does look great for his age.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||03/31/2013|
He too loud and annoying. It can't be said enough.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||03/31/2013|
I first became aware of him in the 1990's on Joy Behar's radio show. He was very funny in converation.
His Broadway Laugh Whore was an awful One Man Show 101.
He is talented as an actor but as a comedian tired, shrill and not funny.
STILL I like him.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||03/31/2013|
[quote]he's not funny at all, just annoying. He obviously thinks being loud and queeny automatically makes him hilarious. Being obnoxious is no substitution for wit.
You've got that right, R29. He's awful.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||03/31/2013|
I first saw Mario in an Off-Broadway comedy called "The Crumple Zone" in 2000. The playbill lists among his credits: Carnegie Hall, opening for Shirley Bassey.
I can't imagine...
|by Anonymous||reply 34||03/31/2013|
He's resting up for SATC 3
|by Anonymous||reply 35||03/31/2013|
WTF Op, He Has Been On The View Plenty Since January 2013, Even On For A Complete Week A Few Weeks Back. Do You Even Watch The View? Obviously Not !! Stop Coming On Datalounge With Crap Statements, That Have No Foundation.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||04/04/2013|
Can't stand him.
Billy Eichner has the same a little-goes-a-long-way screaming obnoxiousness but unlike Cantone he can be very funny and (also unlike Cantone) I'd love to fuck him.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||04/04/2013|
R14, thank you. I had no idea he had that kind of talent.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||04/04/2013|
He is very talented but has unfortunately pigeon holed himself into a gay charicature. Caught him on a segment on Chapelle show that was embarrassing. The gay thing is so boring now-and not shocking or edgy anymore. With gay marriage being accepted and so many famous people coming out, these one note entertainers need to find another niche. I hope Modern Family gets cancelled just for the awful portrayal of the gay couple- really repulsive.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||04/05/2013|
Nobody wants to pay money to be trapped in a theatre listening to that shrill voice for 90 minutes. And no one in Hollywood wants to cast him.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||04/05/2013|
He needs fresher, newer material. And I completely soured on him the FIRST time (out of many) when he did Bette Davis after her stroke.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||04/05/2013|
Not surprised to see the typical DL bitchiness.
You complain about men in entertainment who are in the closet and I've been out my whole career.
Sorry, you don't get my "schtick."
|by Anonymous||reply 42||04/05/2013|
[quote]because he is th4e most untalented and unfunny person alive. The less of him the better
Am I glad to hear that!
|by Anonymous||reply 43||04/05/2013|
R42, well, it's not like you could ever pull off a believable closet performance. You were condemned to be out.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||04/06/2013|
[quote] condemned to be out.
Most pathetic post on DL ever.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||04/06/2013|
I saw him prancing around in Beverly Hills a while back. Walks with the confidence of a much taller man. Seemed to be disappointed that people didn't pay attention to him.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||04/06/2013|
The days of the gay clown are over; this stereotype isn't funny anymore.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||04/06/2013|
A friend of mine was on that children's show he used to do. She said it was a horrible experience and she actually asked to go home before the taping was done. At one point, Cantone made a joke about someone they had never heard of before (Bette Davis maybe?). The kids just stared at him dumbfounded with the quizzical "who?" look on their faces. Cantone turned to someone on the crew and said, "we need to start getting some smarter kids in here."
