I love lucy

Do you like this show? I wasn't born when it aired but my dad keeps DVD sets of the show. What do you think of it?

I've seen reruns and it was fun to watch them. I have sets of shows from the 80s when I worked outside the U.S. They're old shows but new to me and the writing was better than the garbage they put out today. That goes for sitcoms and drama.

I don't think anyone here would have an opinion either way, OP. Sorry : (

It's still a very funny show. More for the dialog than for the ridiculous situations. The Lucy character is very selish, childish and narcissitic. If you can deal with that, the other characters are more appealing

Is your father gay?

by Anonymousreply 503/26/2013

This is a stealth Golden Girls thread, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 603/26/2013

Wow, I don't think anyone has ever mentioned Lucy on Datalounge before.

by Anonymousreply 703/26/2013

Never heard of it.

And don't the caps work on your keyboard, Asshole?

Can't stand Lucy. On the show it's as if she's trying too hard to be funny. I put her in the same class as annoying Jerry Lewis.

by Anonymousreply 1003/26/2013

Brady Bunch & Growing Pains were way funnier

by Anonymousreply 1103/26/2013

I think she's overrated because she was a groundbreaker, but the shows themselves don't hold up. Hate the annoying crying and the schtick.

The 'WHAA' is so annoying.

by Anonymousreply 1303/26/2013

Exactly. R13

A show that I found funny, even though it's about 30 years before my time, is "The Jack Benny Show".

I Love Lucy is still funny because it was all fresh and new when they did it.

By the time the 70s rolled around, so many sitcoms were just repeating routines and plots from the 50s. Laverne and Shirley, Three's Company, Happy Days, Brady Bunch - none of these was as good as I Love Lucy.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Newhart - shows of that ilk were on a par with Lucy, though.

Why did Lucy move to a new apartment when the new apartment she moved to made Little Ricky go through his parents room?

What if Lucy and Ricky were doing the anal and Little Ricky needed a glass of water or to use the pot? How could he do that?
