Justin Timberlake's New Album Expected To Sell 800-850k In The US In Its First Week
This guy could fart on an album, and the masses would buy it up. Another #1 for him. Wait until it debuts outside the US.
As of now, it appears that Justin Timberlake will score the fifth-biggest debut of this decade, behind only two Taylor Swift albums (1.2m, 1.05m) and one each from Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne (1.1m, 964k).
The killer bow of The 20/20 Experience will also give Sony Music four of the Top 10 biggest debuts since 2010. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
*Justin Timberlake (RCA) 800-850k
Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 37-42k
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 35-40k

I don't get it - who's buying his albums? Is a 31 year old man really hip with the teenagers of today or is it the 30-something soccer moms wanting to re-live the late 90's?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||03/22/2013|
31 isn't considered old, r1.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||03/22/2013|
Beyonce is in her 30s, and the kids worship her around the world.
Justin is the new King of Pop for the 21st century sadly.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||03/22/2013|
Nellie Forbush wouldn't even think JT's album would sell that much.
[quote]Beyonce is in her 30s, and the kids worship her around the world.
No, they worship Rihanna. Beyonce's last album was a flop.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||03/22/2013|
Jennifer Lopez didn't even DEBUT as a pop singer until she turned 30 and had her biggest hit when she was 40+. As long as you keep up with trends and can stay youngish looking, you can continue to sell your tunes.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||03/22/2013|
The only reason this album is successful is because pop music has hit rock bottom. His mediocre R&Bish tunes shine because everything else is crap!
|by Anonymous||reply 6||03/22/2013|
Look at the other people pulling up big numbers (Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne) to see what's happening in pop music. It's not good.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||03/22/2013|
I thought we almost lost Lil Wayne the other day?
|by Anonymous||reply 8||03/22/2013|
r4, Beyonce is bigger than albums. She's an icon who can do whatever the fuck she wants. She's a tripple threat. She's a marketing dynamo.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||03/22/2013|
If Beyonce were a marketing dynamo she'd sell more albums...
|by Anonymous||reply 10||03/22/2013|
WOW! It's not a good cd. I was disappointed.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||03/22/2013|
Beyonce, like Madonna, makes most of her money from touring, not album sales. Album sales are like advertisements for getting asses into seats at the big arena concerts. That has always been the real draw for these performers.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||03/22/2013|
It sold on Amazon for $5 the first day out and now I think it's at $7. It's affordable for most. Even if it's horrible.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||03/22/2013|
Oh, it will have a gigantic drop next week.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||03/22/2013|
It's a great album. Was honestly surprised how much I like it, because the first single did nothing for me.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||03/22/2013|
Also Justin has a great marketing team that did everything they could to make this happen - pre-sales, rock bottom prices, oppressive promotion, etc.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||03/22/2013|
It's not great. All the songs sound the same and it's a Robin Thicke ripoff.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||03/22/2013|
True, R16. And that coupled with music critics who are down with giving him a free ride (4-1/2 stars from Rolling Stone? Really?) and that is why he is able to post those numbers in his first week.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||03/22/2013|
If you think all the songs sound the same, you were listening to the wrong album.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||03/22/2013|
i have the mp3 and agree all the songs basically sound the same.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||03/22/2013|
There seems to be a love/hate with Justin Timberlake here. Half of you love him, while half of you hate him. I think his album is pretty amazing, IMHO.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||03/22/2013|
There is a jazzy, moody thing going on in some of the songs that creates a thematic sound. But there are other songs that dont have it at all, like suit & tie, pusher love, let the groove.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||03/22/2013|
Wow Cuntfork are cumming over it, but then they also liked that divisive last Beyonce album.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||03/22/2013|
There is no way that closeted untalented fugly boybander will sell that many records. No way. But then again, Bieber sells a lot shit too. I just don't get how people spend their money.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||03/22/2013|
Ugh. I hate that he's fooled people into thinking he's got actual talent. He'll never go away.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||03/22/2013|
Today, I saw on Daily Mail (yes, I know) that he's being considered to host the next Oscars (I didn't check for a DL thread about this). Seriously.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||03/22/2013|
Face it, the new Justin Timberlake is a revelation!
|by Anonymous||reply 30||03/22/2013|
He ruined Janet Jackson's career.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||03/22/2013|
The follow-up to this album is coming later in the year.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||03/22/2013|
[quote]Wow Cuntfork are cumming over it, but then they also liked that divisive last Beyonce album.
I loved "Girls (Who Run The World)".
|by Anonymous||reply 33||03/22/2013|
[quote]Jennifer Lopez didn't even DEBUT as a pop singer until she turned 30 and had her biggest hit when she was 40+.
What biggest hit was that?
|by Anonymous||reply 34||03/22/2013|
It will fall like a stone once the hype of the debut wanes.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||03/22/2013|
[quote]As of now, it appears that Justin Timberlake will score the fifth-biggest debut of this decade, behind only two Taylor Swift albums (1.2m, 1.05m) and one each from Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne (1.1m, 964k).
"The decade" is only 3 years old, am I right?
|by Anonymous||reply 37||03/22/2013|
Critics are salivating over Kacey Musgraves's debut country music album, going as far as calling her "Country's Bright, Shining Hope." The cool thing is that she is very pro-gay, to the point where she has been lambasted by some conservative country fans over her tweets.
Excerpt from link:
"Even the media types who often ignore mainstream country music are on board. Rolling Stone’s Jody Rosen says in a four-star review, “The album showcases a songwriting voice you won’t hear anywhere else in pop: young, female, downwardly mobile, fiercely witty.” And Ann Powers of indie rock-focused tastemaker NPR says it unfolds like a novel and considers it a “gift”: “Pop desperately needs women artists like Musgraves — women who can tell the stories of their regular sisters and nieces and aunts and uncles and boyfriends in optimistic but realistic terms.”"

Somebody PLEASE tell me who exactly is buying Bon Jovi material? He can't be popular with teens. All of his songs sound the same. Anthems about living his life. Who in this day and age is bothering? Please, I need to know.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||03/22/2013|
It has two good songs. THAT'S IT! The people cumming over this are pr shills and fancunts.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||03/22/2013|
R39 Bon Jovi are sadly huge in the UK.
I thought there was a big stigma attached to them in the US and there was a whole Bon Jovi sucks attitude, with him being a laughing stock on the likes of Beavis and Butthead.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||03/22/2013|
Downloaded it for free last week. It's all over the blogs for free download...
I sure as hell had no intention of paying for it - just like sex.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||03/22/2013|
Those are pretty amazing numbers. Before itunes and the internet took over "big" albums would sell 1-2 million or more the first week.
that hardly happens at all anymore. An artist can have fairly tame numbers and still place high on the charts. there have been weeks where No. 1 sold 100,000 or 50,000.
So, 800-850k is a lot.
I wouldn't buy it, and he's sort of annoying, but I just don't get the JT meltdown hatred on DL. He seems like someone to be completely indifferent about, not passionately opposed to.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||03/22/2013|
Look he walks the line between urban and pop that few artist do today. Besides this album is being advertised on TV and radio.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||03/23/2013|
This album is selling HUGE, already being talked about on CNN. Their is a special on Timberlake tonight. Nice that we're not discussing the other Justin for a change.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||03/23/2013|
I'm actually enjoying. It's not the same mainstream pop crap, and it has an atmospheric vibe, a throwback to 90s R&B.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||03/23/2013|
So disheartening, such lowbrow tard shit. 15 acts and it would be tortuous for me to listen to any of them. Sometimes being so much better than everyone else can be such a drag.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||03/23/2013|
R43 People on DL saying "meh" about something instead of loathing, hating, despising, and taking a total, diarrheaful shit all over it?
Never gonna happen.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||03/23/2013|
I can't believe they've hired people to shill for this album on DL. Some of the posts are just too transparent.
So in the past 3 years only Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne have had bigger debuts? I certainly don't remember the hype being this frenzied.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||03/23/2013|
Doesn't seem like much is selling outside of Timberlake, which is obviously being heavily shilled at this point. Music industry isn't in such great shape.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||03/23/2013|
No one wants to fuck Taylor swift, Madonna or lil Wayne in the ass, r49. At least no one here.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||03/23/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 850-900k first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||03/23/2013|
"but I just don't get the JT meltdown hatred on DL."
What meltdown and hatred? LOL.
He's not simply everybody's cup of tea. You should be old enough to understand that the whole world is not going to like what you like. A difference of opinion is not hatred.
Honestly, the only people I ever see on these threads who get so incredibly upset over a difference of opinion are the rabid fans of these celebrities. One just had a complete and total meltdown on the Madonna GLAAD thread.
Stop depending on the opinions of others to make you happy. Because you'll never be.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||03/23/2013|
Someone said Robin Thicke imitation? They'd be right!
|by Anonymous||reply 54||03/23/2013|
I've just listened to the entire album on youtube to see what the fuss is about (no way I was buying it). 1hr19min:33sec I will never get back. I don't want to sound racist but why is it when a white man takes a middling stab at black music he gets hyped to the heavens and beyond? This isn't even Timberlake's best effort.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||03/23/2013|
R7 said all that needs to be said. Garbage.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||03/23/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 950k-1.1m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||03/23/2013|
This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time, IMHO . Check out "Blue Ocean Floor".. it really takes you on another world.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||03/23/2013|
Wow 60. I was specifically waiting for that song because of what had been posted earlier but its certainly nothing write about. This thread makes me feel like such a music snob and it makes me sad because I'm really not. This just isn't a good a album and I certainly don't get the Salem-type hysteria about it.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||03/23/2013|
Yahoo is calling 20/20 a near perfect album! The stand-out is the 8 minute "Strawberry Bubblegum".
|by Anonymous||reply 62||03/23/2013|
[R55], it's not "black music", but it is insulting and why most true R&B fans aren't feeling him. There are a number of shrills at work in this thread and across the internet. Also many blacks have yet to forgive him for leaving Janet Jackson hanging and them playing the "cultural appropriation" card with him being in "mainstream (white)" films and but wanting blacks and non-black R&B fans to gobble his crap up
|by Anonymous||reply 63||03/23/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 1.2-1.5m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||03/23/2013|
r55. I agree. He is basically the "great white hope." That is why he is getting so much good press.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||03/23/2013|
It doesn't matter what haters say; haters don't buy albums. What matters is how many fans will buy his album, and the answer is "plenty."
|by Anonymous||reply 66||03/23/2013|
Anyone holding a grudge again Timberlake for the nipple incident and kiss his 1.2 million first week selling ass. Talentless Janet can't get arrested anymore, hehe.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||03/23/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 1.5-1.8m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||03/24/2013|
Suit & Tie went back to #1, while 20/20 is holding at #1 on iTunes.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||03/24/2013|
Billboard now says it's selling past the 2 million mark, headed to 4 million by Monday night. Unheard of! There's even talk of not televising the Grammy Awards next year since it's been decided that Justin has already won every category!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 70||03/24/2013|
The 20/20 Experience is Justin's Ray of Light.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||03/24/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 4.1-4.5m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||03/24/2013|
The album is terrible. And I'm a fan.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||03/24/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 4.6-5m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||03/25/2013|
Wow! That's totally unheard of considering that Justin Timberlake hasn't released an album in 7 years.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||03/25/2013|
Billboard now projecting 5m-5.5m first week debut. Mindboggling.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||03/26/2013|
Seriously, this is unprecedented.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||03/26/2013|
But seriously, Billboard is now predicting sales of around 1 million.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||03/26/2013|
One for the history books: Now Billboard projects first week sales to hit the 6 million mark. The biggest debut of all time.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||03/26/2013|
That's more than Elvis and the Beatles! But fortunately, not more than Slim Whitman or Boxcar Willy.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||03/26/2013|
No, they're asking whether he'll crack a million, wtf you talking about.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||03/26/2013|
And is that good news or bad news R78? I'm not really pro or anti Justin Timberlake myself.
|by Anonymous||reply 82||03/26/2013|
Billboard is now projecting an 7.3-7.9m first week debut.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||03/26/2013|
When will final numbers be out?
|by Anonymous||reply 84||03/26/2013|
Excellent CD. Prolly the best I bought in 10 years. Every song is a winner. JT is the new MJ!!!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 86||03/26/2013|
The only people on that list I've whose music I've heard is Bon Jovi and Bowie. The rest I've never heard. Granted I quit listening to the radio 10 years ago and on the rare occasions I do listen it's to old classic rock stations. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||03/26/2013|
[quote]Excellent CD. Prolly the best I bought in 10 years. Every song is a winner. JT is the new MJ!!!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 89||03/26/2013|
The new MJ? Eeek, poor Justin.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||03/26/2013|
He didn't break a million, but still impressive: 920k
|by Anonymous||reply 91||03/26/2013|
He failed to break a million despite the uberhype. Lil' Wayne, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga are still bigger.
And don't Timberfake's PR have no shame?
|by Anonymous||reply 93||03/27/2013|
[quote]He failed to break a million despite the uberhype. Lil' Wayne, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga are still bigger.
In what planet is Lil' Wayne bigger? Did you see all the negative comments on iTunes?
|by Anonymous||reply 94||03/27/2013|
Two of Lil' Wayne's albums have opened bigger in the last 5 years r94. And I think he's as untalented as JT.
|by Anonymous||reply 95||03/27/2013|
From JT's Twitter: Whoa... Speechless. Shocked. Numbers go up, numbers go down. I just hope this album makes your Summer... You already made mine #bestfansever 6:01pm - 27 Mar 13
|by Anonymous||reply 96||03/29/2013|
Doesn't Matter What It Sells, Will Be Forgotten In Less Than 5 Years
|by Anonymous||reply 97||03/30/2013|
The elders here crack me up.
Part 2 of 20/20 drops in November.
|by Anonymous||reply 98||03/30/2013|
Elders? I can't see them buying this shit. Young people? I can't see them buying this shit either. Old soccer moms trying to relive their teens are the only ones dumb enough to spend money on this crap. Well besides the record company.
|by Anonymous||reply 99||03/30/2013|
As predicted, the album made a big splash now hype is waning a whole week later. It certainly won't have the legs of a Taylor Swift or Adele album.
|by Anonymous||reply 100||03/30/2013|
I can't believe all the hype surrounding this album, even on this site.
WTF is so great about this guy?
|by Anonymous||reply 101||03/30/2013|
I think Timberlake is brilliant, can't get enough of his new album.
|by Anonymous||reply 102||03/30/2013|
r101, Im wondering the same thing...Future Sex was way more innovative than this. I guess music is so crappy now that people will fawn over this bland album. Ive always thought Justin had a nice voice, and Timbaland has always been amazing. But Im just not getting this.
|by Anonymous||reply 103||03/31/2013|
after listening to it a few times, this is a GREAT album. Strawberry bubblegum, Mirrors, Let the Groove In...awesome music.
And, he (like everyone else) is now taking a page from Madge's book. Global marketing, cross-selling, and complete media domination=huge tour sales immediately follow.
|by Anonymous||reply 104||03/31/2013|
You might not enjoy it but the album is certainly very innovative. It doesn't sound like any other pop music I've heard. It's jazzy, ambient, and has everything from old school big band sounds to African music.
I think people have such strong pre-formed opinions of JT that they can't judge him or his music clearly.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||03/31/2013|
Well his album was trashy like all his albums are. The only song that was rather ok was 'Mirrors'. Actually it's the only song of Timberlake that i somehow like.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||03/31/2013|
Speaking of Madge, why do people immediately dismiss her work as the product of her producers but they don't say the same thing about Timberlake? Timberlake wouldn't be successful without Timbaland.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||03/31/2013|
Who even talks about Madge anymore? Anyway that is ridic. Her cultural presence (and justins too) are both way more than the sum of their musical output. That's just a tiny part of what makes them stars.
|by Anonymous||reply 108||03/31/2013|
Madonna's last album wasn't that good, no songs worth listening to.
|by Anonymous||reply 109||03/31/2013|
Music has been in serious trouble for years now, but the Ipod-bots downloading "thousands" of songs are pitifully clueless. What isn't re-heated DJ Testa-like disco from 10 years ago, is helium-voiced teenybopper bubblegum (or worse, grunting rap songs).
Hint: a song shouldn't have to mention the word "booty" to be a success.
It's all so dumb I can't listen to the radio anymore. And I've never downloaded a song in my life; if I want to hear something I'll go on Youtube, or play my old compilation tapes.
|by Anonymous||reply 110||03/31/2013|
I think Lil Wayne went back down again on iTunes, being replaced with Timberlake's 20/20. Lil Wayne is getting scathing reviews.
|by Anonymous||reply 113||03/31/2013|
I bet some of the bots who downloaded the album will only listen to one song.
|by Anonymous||reply 114||03/31/2013|
