Dorothy Hamill

Carol Burnett tried that hairstyle and looked awful. (See her during her opening monologue of the "Gone with the Wind" parody.) Kathie Lee had that hairstyle (Name that Tune) and looked awful. Lauren Tewes looked bad with it.

How is it that Dorothy Hamill pulled it off and still looks so good?

lovely and amazing

by Anonymousreply 103/21/2013

She married a super hottie.

by Anonymousreply 303/21/2013

"That hairstyle" is called "The Wedge" - Vidal Sassoon created it.

Hamill made it look good because it's made to move and she was a skater.

Plus she was young and fresh. When Dorothy won the gold my two older sisters got the Dorothy. They pulled it off rather well. Both being in High School.

And the picture you posted is more of a shag. This is the true Hamill bob. She should have gone glamorous more often.

by Anonymousreply 603/21/2013

I saw a twenty-something Asian male with that hairdo yesterday. Is it making a comeback? On men?

by Anonymousreply 703/21/2013

She really was just naturally beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 803/21/2013

The Wedge in action.

NOT a bob, or a shag!!!

by Anonymousreply 903/21/2013

Her hair looks amazing in r9. Only Clairol could make it shine like that!

by Anonymousreply 1003/21/2013

Last night Antenna TV was showing Diffrent Strokes and it was an episode where Dorothy Hamill guest starred!

Kimberly was ice skating at the same rink Dorothy was practicing on. Dorothy thought Kimberly was a natural talent and offered to be her coach. She thought she had Olympic potential!

Dorothy's hair looked fabulous!

by Anonymousreply 1103/21/2013

Hope so, R7. I had one in my disco bunny days. My hair was dark, thick and straight.

I looked fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 1203/21/2013

Because, Dorothy Hamill is a beautiful woman, inside and out.

by Anonymousreply 1303/21/2013

For the Short & Sassy look!

by Anonymousreply 1403/21/2013

Vidal Sassoon? I thought a Japanese-American guy named Suga invented that 'do for Dorothy???

by Anonymousreply 1503/21/2013

I didn't think anyone invented it for her. She looks like the type who would cut it short so she didn't have to fuss with it and ended up looking gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 1603/21/2013

Well, yes, Trevor Sorbie, who worked for Sassoon.

by Anonymousreply 1703/21/2013

In recent memory, I can only think of two other (American) celebrities whose hairstyles became iconic: Farrah Fawcett and Jennifer Aniston. Any others?

by Anonymousreply 1803/21/2013

Meg Ryan

Susan Powter

by Anonymousreply 2003/21/2013

She has the right features for it.

by Anonymousreply 2103/21/2013

Negative, r19. I don't know where you got that from!

Maybe for butches, r20.

by Anonymousreply 2203/21/2013

I clearly remember my mother requesting the Dorothy Hamill haircut around 1976 when I was 10. Much better style than the jacked up Tanya Harding look popular in the early 90s.
