Do you have a second home or apartment?

Authors always seem to have two ("he lives in New York and San Francisco....")

Does someone look in on it or do you just lock the doors and hope for the best.

"he lives in New York and San Francisco...."

"He shares a scrungy 4-bedroom in the Outer Mission and takes JetBlu to Schenectady for the holidays with his parents."

I wouldn't want to pay taxes in two places.

by Anonymousreply 203/19/2013

Four places. One place involves acreage, a friend lives on the premises and oversees the day to day. The rest are condominiums...shut the door and go...

I have a place on Cape Cod that I rent out June - September. But I use off season.

Two?! Heavens to gracious no! We're not poverty-stricken!

My father and his wife have a lake house.

Does that count? he does share.

I have a house I live in, an apartment I used to live in but now rent out and a 3 room shack/hut in a quiet spot near a beach but also close to mountains. Not anywhere expensive or exclusive, just quiet and nice to go to for a few days. It's never been broken into, probably because it would cost burglars more in gas money than they could make by stealing my 50 year old furniture and odd assortment of plates and cooking utensils. It sounds like I'm relatively wealthy but not really. The house I share a mortgage, the apartment was cheap when I bought it and paid off long ago and the hut was inherited.

David Sedaris has at least three: Manhattan, France, and London.

He says when he finds a cashmere sweater he really likes, he buys three of it so he can always have one at hand in whichever of his three homes he's in.

R8, that's so obnoxious, does he also contribute to

by Anonymousreply 903/19/2013

...which is why any sensible person should despise the nasal-whiney Sedaris for his undue wealth from writing inane toilet reading.

3....a condo in Cleveland (my hometown) main residence in Atlanta, and a house in LA

by Anonymousreply 1103/19/2013

Why on earth would you leave LA for Cleveland or Atlanta r11?

by Anonymousreply 1203/19/2013

my family is in Cleveland , and Atlanta is actually very cool without the drama of LA...

by Anonymousreply 1303/19/2013

I live in NYC, but my Home is in Harrisburg

by Anonymousreply 1403/19/2013

But if someone asks where I live I would *never* list more than one.

That is so tacky.
