Vince Edwards (Dr. Ben Casey), nude shots and uncut cock.

Remember Ben Casey on TV? He's dead now and he gambled himself to death, got in trouble with the mafia loan sharks and all kinds of mayhem. But he was a body builder in his day, check it out.

fix your link if you want us to discuss this.

by Anonymousreply 2March 16, 2013 1:24 PM

Wow. I never knew this before.

"Edwards referred to rival actor Richard Chamberlain as "a hack," and that he "couldn't act his way out of a paper bag." During a heated confrontation between the two actors in Central Park in 1964, Edwards threw his ice cream cone onto Chamberlain's suit. The two never spoke again."

I always thought he was Jewish. Like maybe his name was Vincent Edward Stein (or Segal or Salinger).

by Anonymousreply 8March 16, 2013 5:02 PM

No, he was Italian, and like most good-looking Italians a bit screwed up in the head.

by Anonymousreply 9March 16, 2013 5:14 PM

Not cute.

by Anonymousreply 10March 16, 2013 5:27 PM

Why is he uncut?

by Anonymousreply 11March 16, 2013 7:43 PM

Because, as R9 told us, he was Italian and, as we already know, of another generation, when circumcision wasn't at popular as it later became.

by Anonymousreply 12March 16, 2013 7:56 PM

That's a lot of floppy skin on the end of his knob. Pyoo.

by Anonymousreply 13March 16, 2013 8:00 PM

R11. Because he is civilized. And his parents and others of their generation were not barbarians.

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2013 10:38 PM

You mean because his parents birthed him on the kitchen table, don't you R14?

by Anonymousreply 15March 16, 2013 10:41 PM

It costs an additional $10 to get circumcised.

by Anonymousreply 16March 20, 2013 3:44 AM

All I remember is some old Jewish doctor saying "man, woman, birth, death, infinity" at the beginning of all the episodes or else a gurney crashing through emergency room doors or something, the rest is a blur. Vince Edwards got really ugly when he grew old. I thought Vince Edwards and Annette Funicello had a vague resemblance to each other then.

by Anonymousreply 17March 20, 2013 5:56 AM

He was well known for his gambling addiction. True story: He used to borrow money from a star-struck young woman working in the lab at the hospital where I also worked.

by Anonymousreply 18March 20, 2013 6:14 AM

.ot able to retrieve pics !

by Anonymousreply 19March 14, 2014 3:32 AM

That's funny, R3.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2014 6:48 AM

R16 if circumcision were extra money then jews would't do it.

by Anonymousreply 21March 14, 2014 7:32 AM

Was that a slur, you goyim? Oy. Don't get me started.

[quote] He's dead now and he gambled himself to death

How exactly would one do that? I didn't realize "gambling" was a cause of death.

by Anonymousreply 30April 16, 2020 9:43 PM

Vincent had a twin brother named Anthony (Zoino).

by Anonymousreply 33April 16, 2020 10:02 PM

He did not "gamble himself to death." He died of pancreatic cancer.

He did have a bad gambling addiction, and said it seriously hurt his career; but it had nothing to do with his death.

by Anonymousreply 34April 16, 2020 10:13 PM

R20 I suppose a mob hit for unpaid gambling debt would qualify.

by Anonymousreply 35April 16, 2020 10:20 PM

Quite big tits.

Another prime piece of Italian-American meat out of Brooklyn, NY. Back when Brownsville was a totally different place than what it has become......

MOVIES! channel does Sunday Night Noir where they feature some great old films from that genre. Channel surfing caught beginning of "City of Fear"(released in 1959), and once saw Vince Edwards in opening moments that got my attention, so made some snacks and sat down to watch.

Up until the time they were largely phased out, those side button white tunics that all doctors (male), dentists (ditto) male nurses, along with orderlies wore were called either Dr. Kildarie or Dr. Ben Casey shirts, blouses or tunics. Popularity soon spread and even ready made women's blouses or tunics with same design came out, that or you could buy patterns and run up your own.

by Anonymousreply 39April 17, 2020 4:42 PM

I remember male pharmacists also used to wear those shoulder buttoned tunics r40.

My dad was a dentist and I remember those white smocks with the Nehru collars. Later it was a zip front, Star-Trek looking get up, in the colors of the day, avocado, gold etc.

[quote] "Edwards referred to rival actor Richard Chamberlain as "a hack," and that he "couldn't act his way out of a paper bag."

Plus Edwards had one of the better theme music pieces of the early sixties, it grabbed you. Far better than Chamberlain's wimpy "three stars shall shine tonight".

I saw him in an old movie a couple of weeks ago...his career pretty much went no where. Probably because he did not know how to get along with gay guys.

by Anonymousreply 46April 17, 2020 9:05 PM

[quote] Probably because he did not know how to get along with gay guys.

Maybe he's not a very quick learner. The New York Times said he started out working as a chorus boy on Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 47April 17, 2020 11:51 PM

All smiles here, behaving like perfect gentlemen.

Maybe Richard Chamberlain made a move on Vince Edwards and he wasn't having it.

R46

Wouldn't say Vince Edward's career went no where; rather it was quite good considering his background. Mr. Edwards did quite a lot of work on other side of camera besides acting.

"When Vince Edwards heard the rumours circulating around the studio lots about a feud between him and Chamberlain, it began to get under his skin.

He said; “Mostly, a little success breeds a feud, or the feud is bred by a lot of loudmouths looking to put the knock on the two guys involved. Let’s say that competition is good for a long healthy life. If you want to call Dick competition, that’s alright with me, because knowing he’s got a good show only makes me want to try harder to come up with one of my own that lives up to the Ben Casey seal of perfection. I feel a kinship with him.”

Now we're getting down to the nitty-gritty...

"Chamberlain came out of nowhere last year to grab the lead on the Kildare show. His previous experience was limited to bit parts in television films and a small part in the Western movie, "A Thunder of Drums." He also made another feature film, "Secrets of the Purple Reef," which was soon forgotten."

If you compare IMDb pages from before their medical television series both Richard Chamberlain and Vince Edwards have decent amount of credits. But Vince Edwards is slightly ahead in body of work which includes several film roles including "City of Fear".
