Favorite SNL characters

Inspired by the brilliant cast member thread, which characters were/are your favorites?

Any characters or skits you liked, but they were one hit wonders? Only seen once and never revived.

The two kids played by Mike Myers. The one in the bathtub - are you looking at my bum, cheeky devil - and the one on the playground who had to wear a helmet.

by Anonymousreply 103/09/2013

Church Lady!!!

by Anonymousreply 203/09/2013

The Anal Retentive (fill in the blank)

by Anonymousreply 403/09/2013

Church Lady

Irwin Mainway

by Anonymousreply 503/09/2013

Collette Reardon.

by Anonymousreply 603/09/2013

The A-hole couple played by Kristin Wiig and Jason Sudeikis, which they never reprised once they became popular.

I loved Penelope and the Target Lady... at first.

RIght now, Nasim Pedrad's Arianna Huffington gives me life.

by Anonymousreply 703/09/2013

I liked Abby Elliot's Angelina, Zooey and Meryl.

I also wish they had done The A-Holes one last time before Wiig left. I got really sick of Gilly and Penelope.

I also loved almost everything Melanie Hutsel did, but I know I'm in the minority.

My all time fave was probably Nora Dunn's Pat Stephens.

by Anonymousreply 803/09/2013

The Sweeney Sisters

by Anonymousreply 903/09/2013

Lyle, the effeminate heterosexual.

by Anonymousreply 1003/09/2013

Mirror Image with Kristen Wiig and Amy Adams. Funniest sketch ever.

by Anonymousreply 1103/09/2013

Alot of Phil Hartman characters like the Anal Retentive Chef, Caveman Lawyer, his Frank Sinatra as host of the Frank Sinatra Group.

Chris Farley's motivational speaker character; Sandler, Farley and Spade as the Gap Girls. I think I'm in the minority in liking Wiig's Gilly. I liked Ferrell and Oteri as the cheerleaders.

by Anonymousreply 1203/09/2013

I liked Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri's cheerleaders

by Anonymousreply 1303/09/2013

Lord Wyndemere with Paul Brittain

by Anonymousreply 1403/09/2013

Maya Rudolph's Donatella Versace and Whitney Bobeebee

Cherie O teri's Babara Walters

by Anonymousreply 1503/09/2013

Church Lady and Linda Richman

by Anonymousreply 1603/09/2013

My all-time favorites are Roseanne Roseannadanna, Dieter (Sprockets) and Donatella Versace.

by Anonymousreply 1703/09/2013

I liked when Phil Hartman did The Sinatra Group with guests Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew, Sinead O'Connor and one other character who I forget. Hartman as Sinatra turned to Sinead, played by Jan Hooks, and addressed her as Uncle Fester.

by Anonymousreply 1903/09/2013

1. Toonces

2. Linda Richman

3. Stuart Smalley

4. Mr. Bill

by Anonymousreply 2003/09/2013

I also loved Dieter from Sprockets.

Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig as Angelina and Madonna fighting over babies. "I get my babies from outer space. They're space babies."

Sean Connery on Jeopardy.

by Anonymousreply 2103/09/2013

I liked a lot of the ones mentioned. The Tarzan, Tonto, and Frankenstein skits always cracked me up.

Also, there was a one-time skit many years ago when Bill Murray was still on the show that I loved - he played a minister conducting a funeral service who transformed into a magician who spun the casket around it, cut it in half, etc. This may sound strange but it was really quite profound. I'd love to see it again.

by Anonymousreply 2203/09/2013

Rich, the "makin' copies" guy

by Anonymousreply 2303/09/2013

Penelope

by Anonymousreply 2403/09/2013

Anne Hathaway's Katie Holmes

by Anonymousreply 2503/09/2013

Cheri Oteri as Adele, the office slut who was bad at innuendo.

"Mmmm. I'd like to taste your man-milk. I'm talking about your SEMEN."

"Adele, you're really bad at innuendo."

"Yeah, well, I want YOU bad. In my END-O."

by Anonymousreply 2603/09/2013

Bring it on down to Veganville.

by Anonymousreply 2703/10/2013

I light up when I see Lyle, the Effeminate Heterosexual.

by Anonymousreply 2803/10/2013

**Lyle, the Effeminate Heterosexual

by Anonymousreply 2903/10/2013

Rachel Dratch's 19th-century proper Bostonian old lady. "SCANDALAMITY!"

The Sweeney Sisters.

Roseanne Rosannadanna.

Emily Litella.

Phil Hartman as Admiral Stockdale.

Dana Carvey as Ross Perot.

by Anonymousreply 3003/10/2013

Sally O'Malley

by Anonymousreply 3103/10/2013

Another vote for Dieter. Also Phil Hartman playing a barely transexual fraulein in a Dieter sketch and Rob Lowe playing a guest on Dieter's show.

Danitra Vance's 15 year old high school cheerleader and mother of two who did the "ghetto" nursery rhymes. "Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown. And we LAUGHED!" Also her "That Black Girl!" a.k.a. "That Girl!" parody.

Late in her SNL stint, Jane Curtin did this sort of dykey booze hound that was unlike any other character she'd done. I think she was called "Iris." It was surprisingly funny.

Rachel Dratch and Jimmy Fallon as the amorous Southie couple. Ben Affleck as their childhood friend who invites him to his wedding. And that's when they find out he's marrying a guy.

Nora Dunn as "Pat Stevens."

by Anonymousreply 3203/10/2013

R26 - that's my favorite too. They never had it again and they removed all videos off the internet. But I found this one -

it's AWESOME.

by Anonymousreply 3303/10/2013

[quote]Rachel Dratch and Jimmy Fallon as the amorous Southie couple.

His name was "Sully." I don't remember hers. I liked them, too.

by Anonymousreply 3403/10/2013

"My name is Hans." "And I'm Franz." "And we're gonna PUMP you UP!"

AND

"What's all this talk about violins on television? What on earth is wrong with violins on television? We need MORE violins on television!" "It's VIOLENCE on television." "Oh... never mind!" - the great Emily Litella

by Anonymousreply 3503/10/2013

I liked seeing Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd last night. I'd never seen "Wild and Crazy Guys" except for the imitations my straight friends would do at work on Monday mornings.

by Anonymousreply 3603/10/2013

Gilda Radner's "Judy Miller Show" was priceless.

And I always loved Rosann Rosannadanna.

Martin Short's Ed Grimley character was a hoot, too.

by Anonymousreply 3703/10/2013

Nadeen @ Burger Castle (Cheri Oteri)

by Anonymousreply 3803/10/2013

"Inspired by the brilliant cast member thread"

Hunh? Why couldn't you post your thoughts on there? You're not going to get fined for not staying strictly on topic.

Some of you taskmasters need to relax.

by Anonymousreply 3903/10/2013

Ed Grimley always puts a smile on your face.

by Anonymousreply 4003/10/2013

Eddie Murphy was hilarious as James Brown singing Hot Tub, and in Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood.

by Anonymousreply 4103/10/2013

Al Franken's Stuart Smiley

by Anonymousreply 4203/10/2013

"We're from France!!" - The Coneheads

Are you prepared to consume mass quantities of liquids??

by Anonymousreply 4303/10/2013

R42 - that character is from an actual guy that used to be on Manhattan cable. He used to live in the village and was really that over the top. Much better looking guy though. Totally gay.

by Anonymousreply 4403/10/2013

[quote]Another vote for Dieter. Also Phil Hartman playing a barely transexual fraulein in a Dieter sketch and Rob Lowe playing a guest on Dieter's show.

Unless Hartman's character was used more than once, I think it was in the Dieter skit with Jason Priestley

by Anonymousreply 4503/10/2013

Patty Caldwell and Candy Slice (both by Gilda Radner)

by Anonymousreply 4603/10/2013

Any character of Mike Myers was brilliant: Boy in Tub; Linda Richman; Dieter; Boy in Helmet; Wayne; Hans; Mick Jagger.

Any character of Dana Carvey was brilliant, Church Lady; Bush 41; Garth.

Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton was awesome.

Will Ferrell's Dubya was terrific.

Bill Murray's lounge-lizard Nick Winters was hilarious.

John Belushi's Greek restaurant guy's "No co'!Petsi!" became a catch-phrase.

Sooo many memorable characters and impersonations!

by Anonymousreply 4703/10/2013

The McLaughlin Group.

by Anonymousreply 4803/10/2013

Superstar!!

And the Sweeney Sisters, of course.

by Anonymousreply 4903/11/2013

Penelope

Mary Katherine Gallagher

The asshole couple with Wiig and Sudekis.

by Anonymousreply 5003/11/2013

Nearly everything done by Cheri Oteri and Molly Shannon - especially Collette Reardon, The Joyologist, Mary Catherine Gallagher.

Shannon's version of Liza is great, taking giant breaths from an oxygen tank.

by Anonymousreply 5103/11/2013

The characters from my teens, when I never missed a show... Jackie Rogers, Jr., Ed Grimley, Nathan "I know that!" Thurm, The Folksmen, Gene "The Anal Retentive Chef," Pat "volumes and volumes of Vogue" Stevens, The Sweeney Sisters, Dieter, Happy Fun Ball, Toonces... wish I'd kept all those homemade tapes.

by Anonymousreply 5203/11/2013

The NPR girls. (Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon)

Maya Rudolph and (?) as the Japanese version of Laverne and Shirley. "Ooo...Booboo Kittysan!"

Cheri Oteri's "Simmer down" woman.

by Anonymousreply 5303/11/2013

Todd DeLaMuca, Lisa Loopner and her mom, and the Norge repairman.

by Anonymousreply 5403/11/2013

Jon Lovitz' Master Thespian and Tommy Flanagan (the liar).

Baba Wawa

Lisa Loopner and Todd

E. Buzz Miller and Christy Christina

Buck Henry's pervy Uncle

Bill Murray's Nick the lounge singer

The Chicago Superfans

Stuart Smalley

Ackroyd's Julia Child and Leonard Pinth-Garnell
