Harvey Fierstein says Kinky Boots' drag queen Lola is straight!!

But star Billy Porter says "Nyuh-uh. Lola's gayer than a two dollar bill!"

Trouble in queer-a-dice.

He's still alive?

by Anonymousreply 103/05/2013

Is Harvey getting pressured to suddenly write straight drag queens for a paycheck?

by Anonymousreply 203/05/2013

Didn't they learn from PRISCILLA?

by Anonymousreply 303/05/2013

This musical won't be around long enough to make it worth being concerned about.

by Anonymousreply 403/05/2013

Harvey wrote the book for the uber-straight Newsies. Maybe he's caught the hetero bug.

The show was great fun, I went Sunday To the night preview.

I saw Cyndi and Harvey.

Packed theater and great show. It was better than the movie. Music made the show happen! Very 80s, in a good way.

Straight? Okay!

"Gayer than a two dollar bill"?

Oy.

by Anonymousreply 703/05/2013

"Oy"?

Oy.

by Anonymousreply 803/05/2013

Oy vey

Probably a hit but a runner-up to Matilda, though Billy Porter could cop the Tony.

I liked some of the music, but despised Billy Porter's performance. He was over the top, and not in a good way.

by Anonymousreply 1103/06/2013

Billy did chew the scenery. Needs to reel it in a bit.

Great voices in the cast, amazing.

Transparent attempt at creating buzz

by Anonymousreply 1303/06/2013

I would agree with you r13, but did that storyline help Priscilla? Why would Fierstein push that narrative?

by Anonymousreply 1403/06/2013

R12, "Chew the scenery"? Really? Are you living in the 50s writing reviews for the Ladies Home Journal?

by Anonymousreply 1503/06/2013

What was your review, then, r15? Other than reviewing other reviews that is.

by Anonymousreply 1603/06/2013

Doesn't seem like an attempt to create buzz.

Seems like they genuinely have differing views on the character and were cornered into admitting that.

by Anonymousreply 1703/06/2013

Not a fan of the show, but I had to chuckle at Musto's article when he says Feirstein introduced Cyndi Lauper as "my daughter, Christina Crawford."
