Is everybody aware of the "deep web" but me?

I feel like an idiot for not having heard of this until this week. Sounds mysterious and a bit scary. I guess it's the internet equivalent of shortwave radio. Has anyone here explored this part of the web? What have you found?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 6102/27/2015

Are you surprised that life exists outside of Facebook?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 103/02/2013

R2 It's like when I discovered Pr0n on usenet and could use FreeAgent to connect file segments to download a 5 minute clip in only 2 hours.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 303/02/2013

Why is this scary?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 403/03/2013

but what does one find there? and why are there web pages that are inaccessible? what does it serve?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 503/03/2013

Checked it out last year using Tor browser. Lots of porn, lot of drug deals, lot of gore pics. Not that scary for veteran/diehard web surfers who've seen it all already on the regular web. Also, it's not like regular web surfing; you pretty much have to know ahead of time where to go as "deep web" sites aren't indexed. So you kind of have to be in the know a bit beforehand, otherwise you won't have any idea where to go.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 603/03/2013

I don't have any idea what you're talking about and I don't want to know.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 703/03/2013

Link, R6?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 803/03/2013

Never heard of it...

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 903/03/2013

Better porn down there?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1003/03/2013

R8 you need the program TOR to be able to access it, and the google search for "hidden wiki" (it may be called something different, I forgot) which will give you a link to a page that lists some deep web pages. It's actually not that interesting and you'll probably be bored with it after a few minutes. You'll just find wannabe hackers, expensive drugs, scammers claiming they are assassins, and sadly cp.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1103/03/2013

WHat kind of drugs? What is cp?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1203/03/2013

cp = child pornography

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1303/03/2013

I just learned something new. It doesn't sound very different from the traditional web, though... Do the pages have an unusual appearance?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1403/03/2013

I'm pretty sure you can get any kind of drug. It's basically like eBay only for drugs, so everything is by an individual seller. I checked it out and I saw weed and coke, but I'm not sure I would ever buy it from them. However, I've seen testimonials for it on YouTube - just search the Silk Road marketplace

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1503/03/2013

They look like any website you can find on google (they aren't supper supper nice, just basic HTML). The only difference is that the URL is something like: irjdujsufrjdygshrdanhagsy.onion

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1603/03/2013

R14, no the pages look the same.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1703/03/2013

R8, do what R11 said.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1803/03/2013

Interesting..thanks r15 and whoever told me what cp was. I felt like an idiot not knowing but when I saw the definition I didn't feel so bad.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 1903/03/2013

I'm curious but too scared to check it out.

I don't want to look at child porn, but I think my curiosity would force me too, and then I'd get creeped out, sad and depressed. It's just too disturbing.

Ill pass.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2003/03/2013

[quote] but what does one find there? and why are there web pages that are inaccessible? what does it serve?

You find a lot of illegal activity.

Also, using Tor browser covers your Interner foot prints a bit and you can't be tracked as well.

People living in countries with tightly controlled Internet access use Tor to avoid government scrutiny.

Drug dealers and buyers, and child porn douchebags, an anyone else engaged in illicit activity, also use Tor for the same reasons - less risk of getting caught.

So there are legitimate reasons for it and illicit ones too.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2103/03/2013

I agree r20, I also may be forced to order some blow and that wouldn't be good either. Jeez, who brought this up?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2203/03/2013

R21 it is actually possible to track whoever is using TOR they just don't really care

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2303/03/2013

So r21, if someone had this TOR thing it would be assumed it was for nefarious reasons, right? Sounds like a bad thing to even have at your house...yikes.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2403/03/2013

I will stay away from the Deep Web. I'm sure they would whip me and beat me and make me write bad checks.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2503/03/2013

[quote] R21 ] it is actually possible to track whoever is using TOR they just don't really care

I never said you can't be tracked.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2603/03/2013

"even more perverted"?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2803/03/2013

the deep web are parts of the web that aren't indexed, by google for instance. this used to, but no longer includes things like facebook and twitter.

TOR and other proxying systems, as well as the US Military's domain .mil are the "darknet".

the deep web isn't accessible by search engines, the dark net isn't openly accessible by a random computer on the internet.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 2903/03/2013

Ok curiosity got the best of me, and I had to youtube deep-web videos.

OMG! look at this poor soul recording what he bought on the deep web. 0_0

This will not end well.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3003/03/2013

I thought Chris Hemsworth was great. His face didn't look right (too squinty) but otherwise he was like a comic book come to life. Natalie Portman was miscasted though.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3103/03/2013

The FBI arrested the operator of Silk Road and confiscated ~35 million dollars in Bitcoins from the site and from user's accounts.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3210/29/2013

The Deep Web is simply cover for the Black Web which is truly scary.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3310/29/2013

bump

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3402/26/2015

For those curious about the "Deep Web" you can Google "Deep Dot Web" and the site will tell you what you need to know.

If you don't any need or urge to self-medicate or don't need to buy firearms don't feel bad about not knowing about the "Deep Web".

If you are a pot-head, be patient. Weed will soon be legal in all 50 states.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3502/26/2015

You can also Google "Reddit Dark Markets" for more information.

Remember, blend & encrypt. Always blend and encrypt.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3602/26/2015

Wouldn't you be caught by USPS or FedEx if you bought drugs or firearms? If they're in a package with your address going through the scanners and sniffer dogs? I would be sweating bullets if I thought I had something like that going through the postal system.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3702/26/2015

Is the DL part of the Shallow Web?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3802/26/2015

" blend and encrypt."

Can you explain that?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 3902/26/2015

Bend, and snap!

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4002/26/2015

It doesn't get any shallower, r38.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4102/27/2015

Here's some dark stuff from the webs:

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4202/27/2015

R39 Go to Reddit Dark Markets or Deep Dot Web Grasshopper, the answers await you there. Go, go now, go towards the dark side of the net, the darkness awaits you. So does not half-bad weed......

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4302/27/2015

R39 Here..here is a key for you. Use it wisely my friend for the path you are about to travel...I've got to go! The Dark Lord calls me to him! I must go yonder and find expensive Klonopin and Valium!

(This article actually points out how not to get busted.)

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4402/27/2015

Jesus fucking christ, R42's link is horrible!

Wtf is WRONG with those people!!!

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4502/27/2015

I need more Oxy. My nose is dripping like crazy.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4602/27/2015

- mops R45's fevered brow - You can go to the one they call Google my friend. Go to Google, go now, a horse awaits you, and ask him to help you find Deep Dot Web.

Or you may try the magical jumble of letters below.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4702/27/2015

Encrypt my little grasshoppers encrypt. See link below. Go to it, go to it now.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4802/27/2015

And blend, blend, blend...

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 4902/27/2015

And while the ones the little people call "the Drug Enforcement Agency" are really more interested in arresting dealers and those they suspect of trying to start brand new operations it does not mean that buyers are 100% safe.

Do your research about deep web security, anonymity and how to safely use Bitcoins.

May the Gods of Foggy Headed Euphoria look upon you all kindly....

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5002/27/2015

Oh yeah, if you do decide to "go for it" read all the reviews about the "person" selling whatever and Google them as well.

Make sure they are not rip-off artists or that they sell shitty stuff.

Research! Research! Research!

Can never, ever be too safe.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5102/27/2015

Uh? what is it? :o

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5202/27/2015

R48, can you explain this encryption process?

And can you answer a question for me? I currently use a Swiss-based VPN. How protected and anonymous am I?

No, I'm not buying drugs or snuff movies, but I don't want to be tracked.I want anonymity.

Thanks for any input. I am trying to be more informed and protected...

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5302/27/2015

R53 True, encryption can be used for many purposes, not just for buying stuff on dark markets.

Here info on how to generate your own "PGP key".

If I needed to send you an encrypted message I would first need your PGP or Public key.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5402/27/2015

R53

I would then take your PGP or Public key, do a "select all" and then copy and paste the key into something like this.

Link below.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5502/27/2015

I would then click the "Get Public Key Information" button.

I would then copy & paste only two parts of the key:

1. Key ID (8 bytes in hex)

and then

2. Public Key (MPIs in base64) - it is the bog, long rectangle underneath

And then I would enter the information into this page.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5602/27/2015

R53

In this page I would copy the "Key ID (8 bytes in hex)" from the first page I showed you paste the code into the "Key ID of Public Key (8 bytes in hex)" box on the second page.

I would then copy the "Public Key of receiver(MPI in base64)" from the first page I showed you and then paste it into the "Public Key of receiver(MPI in base64" on the second page.

I then go down to the box Where it says "your secret text goes here" type my message and then click the "Encrypt Message" button.

Viola! You're message is encrypted.

Now go to your encrypted message in that box, do a "Select All" and then and then copy and then paste the message, which will look like gobbeldy gook, to whatever thingy you are using to send it.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5702/27/2015

R53 If you need to send a message to someone you really only need THEIR PGP or Public key.

In some cases you will need to have your own key though.

That's it! That's all I know!

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5802/27/2015

Any interesting information about celebs, movie stars...anything at all?

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 5902/27/2015

R59 I hear that Florence Henderson likes to buy PCP from a guy who goes by C'monNGetYoFreakOn.

by Never leaves Dataloungereply 6002/27/2015

Oh...I didn't read R53's question through to the end. He didn't ask about any of the shit I posted. (how embarrassing!)
