And a muumuu?
What's the difference between a caftan
|by TIA||reply 44||07/24/2013|
One is an article of clothing that gay men seem to clamor for, the other is the sound a cow makes.
|by TIA||reply 1||02/25/2013|
A caftan is dressy. and perfect for any occasion. A muumuu should only be worn around the house.

Listen up --
Muumuus are worn by fat Hawaiians.
Caftans are worn by killer queens.
|by TIA||reply 3||02/25/2013|
A muumuu is a dress, a caftan is a coat. You wear your caftan over your muumuu.
|by TIA||reply 4||02/25/2013|
Caftans usually have long sleeves and generally have straight lines. MuuMuus have flowing open shorter sleeves and are usually A-line. MuuMuus are often shorter, while caftans are usually at least ankle or mid-calf length.
Now, a burnous on the other hand ...

One never wears earrings with a muumuu.
Unless one is Phyllis Diller.
|by TIA||reply 6||02/25/2013|
Wow, small is size 8-10. That would be a large in today's sizes.

R10 That's not a caftan, it's a bedspread!

La Liz is wearing a caftan, R9. This is a muumuu:

here is Kaftan
|by TIA||reply 14||02/25/2013|
HERE is MuuMuu
|by TIA||reply 15||02/25/2013|
|by TIA||reply 16||02/25/2013|
A MuuMuu can double as a single window drape, and vice-versa.
|by TIA||reply 17||02/25/2013|
I prefer a djellaba.
|by TIA||reply 18||02/25/2013|
No idea, So Sari!
|by TIA||reply 19||02/25/2013|
Oh yeah, Django likes Djellaba, R18.
|by TIA||reply 20||02/25/2013|
I prefer a capirote.
|by TIA||reply 21||02/25/2013|
pretty sure that OP wanted to start caftan quips, but a muumuu has a yoke, and a caftan does not, but comes down straight from the shoulder seam.

Snap down dusters also = muumuu.
|by TIA||reply 24||02/25/2013|
LOL@ "Snap down dusters"! WTF!!
|by TIA||reply 25||02/25/2013|
Aunt Hilda---is that you?
|by TIA||reply 26||02/25/2013|
Now, recall what a poster on an earlier Caftan thread once wrote:
"A gentleman always first sprays his butt-crack with PAM non-stick spray oil before donning his caftan. This, of course, to avoid heavy personal stains on the caftain in the event of a caftan wedgie."
|by TIA||reply 27||02/25/2013|
It's a muu-muu!
|by TIA||reply 28||02/25/2013|
Muu-muus were originally designed by New England female missionaries to Hawaii in response to their request for dresses worn by said New England female missionaries. The challenge to the missionaries was usually how to cover 300 pounds of flesh on aristocratic Hawaiian women. The solution was the muu muu. The caftan's origins are rather older but the area of the world one usually thinks of is Morocco or perhaps North Africa in general, including Egypt. It is more of a male garment worn to cover flesh but remain cool in the North African heat. Caftans are a practical, simple, comfortable garment. I have one for each day of the week but only wear them around the house.

"I have one for each day of the week but only wear them around the house."
And we thank you for that, Miss Mary.

Do you 'go commando' #29?
|by TIA||reply 31||02/26/2013|
Caftan is floor length and can be worn to entertain guests. A muumuu is something like a house dress but a little fancier. A caftan is suitable for evening cocktails; a muumuu is meant for daytime coffee clutches.
|by TIA||reply 32||02/26/2013|
[quote]daytime coffee clutches.
|by TIA||reply 33||02/26/2013|
Don't forget about me!
|by TIA||reply 34||02/26/2013|
Snap-down dusters! God, I haven't thought of those in years. They were the 1970s woman's "I'm just hanging around the house" garment of choice. They were never worn in public, just at home as loungewear. Today's equivalent would be an old pair of sweatpants or trackpants and a t-shirt.
|by TIA||reply 35||02/26/2013|
Can we get a photo of a snap-down duster posted?
|by TIA||reply 36||02/26/2013|
I wish I could just wear a Snuggie some days!
|by TIA||reply 37||02/26/2013|
Another snap-down duster-
|by TIA||reply 38||02/26/2013|
Here you go, R36! Snap-down dusters galore, and many in beautiful floral prints. Courtesy of the good people at Kmart.
I honestly didn't know these things were even sold anymore.
|by TIA||reply 39||02/26/2013|
Isn't a duster also a men's long coat?
|by TIA||reply 40||02/26/2013|
R38, can you find me that in fuschia, Le Plus Grand homme? Thanks and merci!
|by TIA||reply 41||02/27/2013|
Wow! All of these replies are so helpful... NOT! B----es, thanks!!!
|by TIA||reply 42||07/24/2013|
Damn you, 28, you beat me to it. I think we might get along well.
