"Gangnam" Style" was a bad enough song, but this "Harlem Shake" is fucking excruciating.
Why are "dance crazes" suddenly a thing again?

It's a better use of young people's time than using dope and getting pregnant.

I'm hoping for the return of The Big Apple.

Unless, of course, it's an all-male rugby team doing the Harlem Shake totally nude in the shower and showing it full frontal!

Go watch the Harlem responds to Harlem Shakes video.
They're annoyed at all those hipsters and white kids. Especially since the dance they're doing in no way resembles the original Harlem shake. And yes I know this latest meme is based on that rappers video/song and not the original Harlem shake, but the video is funny.

Nothing is as bad as that shitty Macarena was.

Marry me, R1.

Weren't such crazes big in the post ww2 club set? Could they be indicative of a economically traumatized generation?
|by Anonymous||reply 9||02/24/2013|
Someone should do a dance video for the NRA of "Shotgun" showing people running away from mass shooters.
Do the jerk baby
Shoot him 'fore he runs
It's Twine Time
|by Anonymous||reply 10||02/24/2013|
Excellent idea, R10! That was such a good song -- Jr. Walker & the All Stars!

You gotta know how to pony like Bony Maroni
Mashed Potato, do the Alligator
Put your hands on your hips, let your back-bone slip
Do the Watusi, like my little Lucy
Twistin' with Lucy, doin the Watusi
Gotta hold of your back, I like it like that
Do the Jerk, watch me work
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na na na, na na na, na na na

Best dance craze video EVAH!
|by Anonymous||reply 13||02/24/2013|
It's not a dance craze, it's a Youtube meme. Like "Call Me Maybe" and planking.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||02/24/2013|
R13, GAWD, that was HORRID!

Nothing changes, things just catch on now because of electronic access.

r6 the people in Harlem dont think its funny at all. The Harlem Shake is probably one of the last memorable pieces of black culture that will come from Harlem. Now its being desecrated all over the world by many people who dont even know the REAL Harlem Shake, right in the middle of Black History Month!

I TOYALLY want one of those shirts in the R13 video.
Who's guessing Will Ferrell saw that at his gramma's house when he was growing up?

"That's not the Harlem Shake"
|by Anonymous||reply 21||02/24/2013|
Those kids in the video are cute.
Dance is fun too. My neck hurts if I try it.
I think it's OK to let the rest of the world derive what they want out of the "craze"--it's not intended to be disrespectful; you know they have no idea. Maybe just a nod or two to the originators.
My kid's high school made a HS video--got on the news. Black and white suburban kids. They had a good time.

I'd like to see a Hasidic Harlem Shake
|by Anonymous||reply 24||02/24/2013|
R18, I know it's important culturally for them, and I wasn't saying they considered it funny. I was saying I found it funny that they were putting the stupid little hipsters in their place.

|by Anonymous||reply 26||02/24/2013|
