Jeeves and Wooster

Were they doing the nasty?

Bertie was certainly in a panic to extricate himself from women, and get home to Jeeves.

He was only in a panic to extricate himself from women who were even more dense than he was.

No. The stories are still wonderful, laugh out silliness, but the men and women seem pretty asexual even when they're trying to land a marriage partner.

I think there's subtext there but the stories were mesnt to be asexual. Stories like that cant exist today brecause they would very much be gay. Bertie raves on and on about jeeves appearance and worries way too much about his valet's approval. Jeeves devotes himself to Wooster in the last book! Can you imagine a contemporary Bertie praising his petsonal assistant as a "paragon of manhood? " And said contemporary Jeeves promising his boss never to leave beacuase if "the ties thst bind"?

It's as with 9/11, from which we will probably see little great literature -- we know too much about it already.

One of he moms at work said her girls aren't forming the close friendships with other girls that she enjoyed as a child because the kids are too afraid of seeming gay.

Um... wrong thread, r4?

by Plumreply 502/20/2013

Gay gay gaaaaay.

R4 is agreeing with r3, r5 -- but they, like you, are probably gone too.

"One of he moms at work said her girls aren't forming the close friendships with other girls that she enjoyed as a child because the kids are too afraid of seeming gay."

That is incorrect. Girls (and boys) aren't forming the close friendships we remember from our childhoods, because their goddamn parents are claiming the position of "best friend". And are maintaining it by keeping rivals away.

And I'm the OP of this thread, and am very surprised to see it back after two years.

Jeeves an Wooster were the original ambiguously gay duo.

I've often tried to imagine what a contemporary spin on these two would look like. How could they have the innocent 'love' and affection these days without being obviously gay?

What woudl be the 2015 equivalent of a Bertie be? What is the 2015 equivelent of his taste in music, parties, fashion?

I picture Bertie2015 as a kind but privileged white upper class man-boy who loves hip hop, uses Gangsta slang incorrectly, and would he would want to wear beer pong t-shirts, mismatched jackets, and "thug" like sweatpants and saggy pants— to which Jeeves would positively have a melt-downs to keep from happening in public.

Maybe instead of drinking escapades, Bertie2015 would get into trouble with the law for speeding and smoking pot: (kind of a Bieber lookalike WITHOUT the obnoxious narcissism and sociopath traits. )

Jeeves the Valet would be called a "personal assistant" these days. He would handle all of Bertie's business needs, and try to keep him in stylish and classy attire while in public, and keep him out of trouble all while trying to keep his name in good graces with the gossip media.
