Why do relatives ALWAYS put their blinders on when family members commit crimes?

I understand that it's important to support a loved one during times of trouble, but it seems like regardless of the situation (Oscar Pistorius, Jerry Sandusky, and even in our own families), people are quick to give their relatives a pass. You could gather a 100 people in the room and they'd all deny having family members who are capable of child molestation or murder, yet we all have relatives who have probably committed some pretty heinous acts. Hell, some of you are probably ignoring warning signs this very moment, all because you don't want to ruin the illusion about someone you love/respect.

Having fucked up relatives isn't an indictment on anyone other than the perpetrator, yet people feel the need to shield their loved ones from any sort of responsibility. Why?

You're asking this on DL, where no one is guilty of anything as long as they're good-looking?

They don't ALWAYS. Sometimes they are dead - murdered by their relative.

My son was caught with child porn. We are all devastated and shocked, but we don't hate him. And no one is saying he didn't do it. So OP your theory doesn't apply to everyone.

Because if they beat the rap, get out of prison, or actually aren't guilty, you're still going to have to deal them again, at some point.

It's not just denial, it's also fear.
