I applied to a college... was turned down...AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T cashed the check

What would happen if I stopped payment on it? Would they try to collect?

by Anonymousreply 1102/16/2013

Just do it, OP!

Your bank will charge somewhere between $20-$30 to stop payment. If the fee was more than that, do it. But do it quickly.

Colleges charge a fee to read and decide on your application. You knew that when you applied. That forms a binding contract.

If you put a stop on your check, you are breaking a contract. Is your only concern whether you'll get caught? Do you routinely do illegal and dishonorable things so long as you can get away with it?

You are focusing on the wrong thing here.

It's a tacky thing to do, let it go!

OP, why did they turn you down? Did they say?

Are you 18 to 22, or an older student?

by Anonymousreply 802/16/2013

no I'm older. I wonder if it is age discrimination.

I'm shocked that Wilford Beauty College would charge a fee to read and decide on OP's application.

Generally, schools either turn you down because of your previous GPA (if you had one) or if you have been out of school for 10 or more years.

And even then it's usually a "not right now." I did then when I returned to school after 12 years away - the school wanted to reevaluate me after I took 12 credits elsewhere.

I did get 12 credits elsewhere. And then sent them a nice "fuck you" letter and applied to a better school, where I was admitted and given a partial scholarship. Oh yes, I DID.
