For years I did volunteer work for GLAAD, and for a few years I volunteered for the HRC.
I also used to attend PFLAG meetings regularly.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||02/15/2013|
PFLAG, but only my two gay friends and a lone lesbian show up to meetings. So we're thinking of changing the name to "LAG".

The Westboro Baptist Church: Phreddy Phelp's closet door is always open to hunky nephews, grandson and other "upright male members of the congregation".
It's gayer than a tree full of Disney parrots.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||02/17/2013|
Not a single one. Never have.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||02/25/2013|
I can't even imagine what 'gay groups' are, or why I'd want to belong to one...
|by Anonymous||reply 25||04/15/2013|
I belong to the Cute Caucasian Cut High School Wrestlers Under 145 lbs Wearing White Socks For Sex group.
And no you can't join unless you're hot like us.

R25, I belong to Outryders a Boston based gay ski/boarding group, Ski Bums out of NYC (their trips are world wide, a local tennis group called Metropolitan Tennis Group, and a book club (with 8 other gay men). They are all great, full of athletic, nice, smart, energitic gay men. Perhaps R25 you are not gay and you have no hobbies or interests?
|by Anonymous||reply 28||04/15/2013|
I'm gay. I have no real hobbies that are "sharable". I'm an avid reader (don't feel the need to discuss books in a group, or be told what to read and by when), and a casual gamer (XBox). I'm an introvert. I don't even *get* the purpose of these "clubs" and "groups" ... I'm not atheletic, and don't do "team" anything.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||04/15/2013|
I'm an introvert, too, and being on an athletic team is the best way for me to be social without the awkwardness of just being somewhere around a bunch of people.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||04/15/2013|
R30, me trying to do anything atheletic would be far more awkward than standing around in a bar by myself, trust me. And far more embarassing too.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||04/15/2013|
R29, 25? I don't feel the need to discuss the books I read either and I certainly don't need someone to tell me what to read. On the other hand, I am not the world's authority on anything- even if I am quite smart- and I find getting together once a month with some very smart, nice gay men to discuss a book, not necessarily of my chosing, interesting, a bit humbling and altogether fun. Too bad you are not interested in anything athletic. Nothing is more fun to me than skiing at one of the great mountain destinations in the world. I have many good friends met through tennis and skiing.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||04/15/2013|
None. Too separatist for me. My sexual orientation is merely secondary to my place in society. The guys I like to run with don’t need to categorize or define themselves as gay or not gay. Who we sleep with isn’t even much of a topic of conversation. Yes, some of the guys in some of the group things I do are very hot. But not players, so why bother? Grindr is enough of a gay group to pick through.

I don't need to join a gay group to feel accepted.

Perhaps, R37 people join groups to meet others with common interests?

When do you guys invade the Bieber threads? Is that for intermediate or advanced?

I tried skiining once. I'm too tall for it (center of gravity is too high). It was VERY difficult, and I blew out a knee the first day (slow-motion fall, ski didn't pop). Plus I hate the cold with a passion. Definitely not for me.

One group I'm in knits sweaters for the poor. The other is a Liza Music Appreciation Group. Both are just fabulous!

None now. What was intended as a group of local gays to form a friendly community turned out to be anything but. I got the same slice of uneducated drama that I could have seen at the local Walmart.
