Who should have taken over the 007 role?

Besides fugly Daniel Craig, who looks like a Russian cabbie (it has to be someone you can imagine fucking the shit out of you).

by Boipussy Galorereply 14306/10/2013

I know it's way too late but Cary Grant should have been the first Bond.

by Boipussy Galorereply 102/14/2013

Barry Diller--one hot, sexy dude

by Boipussy Galorereply 202/14/2013

Meryl Streep, of course.

by Boipussy Galorereply 302/14/2013

DL favorite Henry Cavill lost the role to Craig.

If I had to pick an American Bond, I'd pick Matt Bomer.

by Boipussy Galorereply 402/14/2013

I'm a long time Bond fan (since 1973, when I was 8 years old). At first, I didn't care for Craig. I loved Casino Royale, but wasn't sure about him. After Quantum of Solace, and especially Skyfall, I am sold on him. I now think he is a terrific bond. I hope he sticks around for another 6 or 8 films.

by Boipussy Galorereply 502/14/2013

I can totally see Craig fucking the shit out of me. He's not good-looking but I think he's rugged and sexy as hell.

by Boipussy Galorereply 602/14/2013

In a critics' movie preview, I told the reviewer that Daniel Craig should have been cast as 007's "turncoat" or straight out "bad guy." A good actor (Munich) but unable to work a tux or be a frau "fantasy object." Jude Law is more believable as an educated professional, but not as a master seducer of women.

by Boipussy Galorereply 702/14/2013

How about an unknown for the role?

by Boipussy Galorereply 802/14/2013

Robbie Williams and Jeremy Renner? Did you put them in there as a joke? What about Jason Isaacs or Clive Owen?

by Boipussy Galorereply 902/14/2013

Mel Gibson? Is that a joke post?

by Boipussy Galorereply 1102/14/2013

Jonah Hill.

by Boipussy Galorereply 1202/14/2013

Judi Dench

by Boipussy Galorereply 1302/14/2013

Clive Owen

by Boipussy Galorereply 1402/14/2013

At the time, a lot of people wanted Clive Owen for it. I think he would have been good, but I didn't want him to get it because I don't like Bond movies and wanted to watch him in better films.

by Boipussy Galorereply 1502/14/2013

Clive Owen or Fassy!

by Boipussy Galorereply 1602/14/2013

Matthew Rhys

by Boipussy Galorereply 1702/14/2013

Daniel Day Lewis.

by Boipussy Galorereply 1802/14/2013

Maggie Smith

by Boipussy Galorereply 1902/14/2013

At least Daniel Craig doesn't look like he just stepped off a wedding cake.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2002/14/2013

If you've ever seen Where the Boys Are, Daniel Craig reminds me of Frank Gorshin. Especially when Craig's underwater in Skyfall.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2102/14/2013

Stephen Fry. He would have been fabulous especially now that he's lost weight. He could have charmed the ladies with his charming voice and his Wildean quips would have been absolutely perfect. Swishing and swaying his way out of danger and besting his wicked foes with words rather than his penis extension, that hideous Walther PPK.Yes he would have been a fop but what a witty and utterly scandalous fop Bond would have been.

Craig looks like an illegal Albanian who lives in an abandoned condom factory on the outskirts of London.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2202/14/2013

I think Bond will be bisexual in later incarnations.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2302/14/2013

Charlene Tilton

by Boipussy Galorereply 2402/14/2013

Bomer is too short. Hollywood special-effects efforts aside, 007 should be tall as well as built.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2502/14/2013

R23 There's a scene in Skyfall between Bond and Silva that suggests he already is bisexual...or might be.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2602/14/2013

Adrian Paul, the star of the old Highlander TV show.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2702/14/2013

Yeah, it should have been Charlene Tilton.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2802/14/2013

Clive Owen.

by Boipussy Galorereply 2902/14/2013

Kathleen Turner

by Boipussy Galorereply 3002/14/2013

I don't think they will let go of Daniel Craig as soon as they thought now that Skyfall became the biggest Bond movie ever. I think Henry Cavill would be great. He's played roles with similar dynamics with female co-stars.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3102/14/2013

Did anyone here see Daniel Craig in Enduring Love or Our Friends from the North? He was good in those things and I did not really want him to be wasted in cheesy Bond movies.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3202/14/2013

50% "other"? Oh, dear. And so many wasted choices.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3302/14/2013

Another vote for Clive Owen.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3402/14/2013

While I love Bomer, he's just too damn pretty for Bond. I wasn't sold on Craig until his Ursula Andress scene in CR. Years ago I thought the late Antony Hamilton would've been the perfect Bond. And I had no idea he was gay at the time.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3502/14/2013

You're all nuts, Craig is a great Bond, probably the best other than Sean.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3602/14/2013

[quote]DL favorite Henry Cavill lost the role to Craig.

That's because he can't act worth shit.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3702/14/2013

All of the OPs nominees are older than dirt!

And I love Craig. He's a very good actor, much better than most of his predecessors, and he's got a brutal, charismatic masculinity that's perfect for the role.

by Boipussy Galorereply 3802/14/2013

[quote]All of the OPs nominees are older than dirt!

So, who gets your vote? Quvenzhane Wallis?

by Boipussy Galorereply 3902/14/2013

I think Daniel Craig is perfect as James Bond.

I think John Barrowman would make a good gay James Bond. He could use his Scottish accent.

by Boipussy Galorereply 4002/14/2013

Alan Cumming!!!

Or Neal Patrick Harris in a take-off of 007 films.

by Boipussy Galorereply 4102/14/2013

Ewan MacGregor

by Boipussy Galorereply 4202/14/2013

Kevin McKidd would be the ultimate Bond!!!

by Boipussy Galorereply 4302/14/2013

Cavill is a boy

by Boipussy Galorereply 4602/14/2013

Jason Statham

by Boipussy Galorereply 4702/14/2013

Dominic West.

by Boipussy Galorereply 4802/14/2013

Aaron Taylor-Johnson

by Boipussy Galorereply 4902/14/2013

Colin Salmon.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5002/14/2013

British actor James Scott who plays EJ on "Days of Our Lives". He can restore that fantastical James Bond that Roger Moore did so brilliantly in the 70s.

I am fucking sick of the serious hyper-real Bond that is apparently so 'true' to the books. The original novels are there for a reason - to be read. We've seen the Bond that's true to Fleming but I firmly believe the public love the cinematic Bond for his larger than life qualities - now they need to make the films innocuous entertainment again with stupid gadgets, campy villains and flamboyant girls.

Just watch this scene and tell me James Scott wouldn't bring the fun back to the Bond franchise. He's bloody gorgeous too:

by Boipussy Galorereply 5102/14/2013

Another vote for Clive Owen

by Boipussy Galorereply 5202/14/2013

Bond is supposed to be Eton educated, from nobility, an upper-class clubman. Posh, a gentleman hero. Clive Owen's from Coventry, an industrial city in the heart of England. He has incredible working man's hands. That is not Bond.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5302/14/2013

I think Owen would be the only one mentioned who is close to the sophisticated and rugged aspects of Bond.

Statham is too street, and MacGregor is too bland.

MacGregor is also rumoured to have issues with insurance for high profile gigs.

r8, Hollywood doesn't do new because all the suits are too busy working on their own careers. God forbid they'd actually have to do some independent scouting work.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5402/14/2013

Julian Moore. Seriously.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5502/14/2013

Yeah, but no one really wants to watch that, R53.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5602/14/2013

I thought I was the only one who thought Daniel Craig was fugly.

Glad to know i'm not.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5702/14/2013

r57, most times I hear/read about him, it's in the context of his charisma or ruggedness, which is basically code for he's ugly, but sexy as hell.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5802/14/2013

Daniel Craig looks like a Nazi ideal. Those blue eyes don't seem human. He was the vision that Hitler had for the world. So creepy.

by Boipussy Galorereply 5902/14/2013

Lena Dunham, she could be the first nudist Bond!

by Boipussy Galorereply 6002/14/2013

r59, I always thought of Rutger Hauer that way.

I was thrilled to see him in TDK, and I wish his part would've been larger--he looked good, too.

Thank god I didn't see it in the theatre, because I had a Mary! moment when I saw him.

God, Nolan lets great, hot actors go to waste. (Cillian Murphy, too)

Although too old now, Jeremy Irons would've made a great Bond.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6102/14/2013

When I think of "Bond," I think: Lena Dunham.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6202/14/2013

James Scott from "Days Of Oyur Lives" is a horrible actor.

Every time he's on the screen, with his fake cultivated posh accent, I cringe.

James Scott is from Newcastle, anyone who knows about UK regions, his speaking manner is NOT one you'd hear from Newcastle!

Sting is from Newcastle, if you listen to old interviews, you can see he's completely changed his speaking voice, he now sounds very posh, much in the same way James Scott's voice now sounds.

Daniel Craig looks exactly like my Super, we've all nicknamed him "James Bond", he seems to love it. My Super is Romanian.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6302/14/2013

Really like Daniel Craig as Bond.

Heard someone float Idris Elba as a possible choice in the near future. Thought that was pretty fantastic.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6402/14/2013

Rob James-Collier or Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6502/14/2013

Nicholas Hoult will be the next Bond. You heard it here first.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6602/15/2013

Russian cabbies are hot.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6702/15/2013

Black Bond! Black Bond! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

So, basicallythat's my vote for Idris Elba. However, I think Craig has a few more Bond films under his built. He's been my favorite Bond since Connery, and I actually think he's better.

Meanwhile, Fassbender would be a great choice as well.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6802/15/2013

Personally, I really like Daniel Craig as Bond. Clive Owen would have been brilliant though. Elba and Fassbender would make good choices too, though.

by Boipussy Galorereply 6902/15/2013

Elba was the first to come to mind.

But I don't think Craig's doing a bad job.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7002/15/2013

Daniel Day Lewis ranking only second to Danny Kay and then, of course, one simply cannot rule out Charles Nelson icon trumping both of the aforementioned actors. But then again, Mitch Miller is my all time favorite...with Stevie Ray Vaughn runnin' neck in neck.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7102/15/2013

Tom Hardy

by Boipussy Galorereply 7202/15/2013

Really presumptuous of you to assume everyone doesn't appreciate Craig's Bond, OP. He's doing a fine job and is second only to Sean Connery as James Bond for me.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7302/15/2013

Craig is great and is second only to Connery. He's head and shoulders above the other Bonds.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7402/15/2013

No American will ever be cast as James Bond.

I do wonder though what does come first: The actor who gets cast or the image the writers/creators envision for this James Bond (and the appropiate actor gets cast based on that plan)?

Since Craig's movie were mostly about action and a couple of spy moments (not much about seducing and banging women) he is a great choice. He also brings this brooding quality to the role where he is kind of a sour puss.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7502/15/2013

[R3] & [R55] Win! LMFAO!!!

by Boipussy Galorereply 7602/15/2013

[quote]No American will ever be cast as James Bond.

While I agree with what you're trying to say, Pierce Brosnan has been an American citizen for years.

by Boipussy Galorereply 7702/15/2013

You left off Heath Ledger

by Boipussy Galorereply 7802/15/2013

R71 No,no,no! You lost me with Charles Nelson Reilly and then Mitch Miller. Mitch Miller? When the fuck did he ever act? Paul Lynde would have made much better sense......

by Boipussy Galorereply 7902/15/2013

r63 - I can't believe you would doubt James Scott as an outstanding James Bond. He's comfortable in any homoerotic situation:

by Boipussy Galorereply 8002/15/2013

Just because James Scott is from Newcastle, doesn't mean he is automatically going to sound like Cheryl Cole. He comes from money, he went to a British boarding school (like 007).

by Boipussy Galorereply 8102/15/2013

Craig is fine...he has a brutal masculinity which works for a killer like Bond. Thought his coming out of the water thing was stupid (Bond would never wear those trunks especially this Bond..maybe the fey Roger Moore Bond...) but I laugh when people talk about how this Bond is more realistic...with those goofy CGI stunts no man could do that without breaking bones, etc.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8202/15/2013

Daniel Craig is extremely hot and handsome. I can only imagine what the DL's look like. You all would kill to be as sexy as him.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8302/15/2013

Is it possible to grow dyslexic as you age?

I thought you were trying to fill Pat Robertson's spot.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8402/15/2013

I disagree about the speedo, R82. He might not strut it out like Ursula Andress, but a serious swimmer/diver/Seal type, especially a European one, would wear a speedo, though I bet it'd be black.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8502/15/2013

Idris Elba would be perfect.

That is 3 votes for him. (R68 and R70)

Why not a suave English brother as Bond?

by Boipussy Galorereply 8602/15/2013

I always thought Clive OWen. He'd have been perfect.

Of course you do know DL favorite Gerard Butler was on the short list? He really thought he had a chance too since he was Scottish like Sean Connery.

Except James would've spit when he spoke and they couldn't find a Bond girl who'd sleep with him. And no way Judy Dench wanted to be botherd.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8702/15/2013

A meth-mouth Bond, R87?

by Boipussy Galorereply 8802/15/2013

"Since Craig's movies were... not much about seducing and banging women"

Then it's not James Bond. Those movies were sexy romps.

They also ruined Batman, but that's another thread.

by Boipussy Galorereply 8902/15/2013

Craig is the best Bond since Connery and sex on a stick. No one on this thread holds a candle to him. Sheesh.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9002/15/2013

Benedict Cumberbatch.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9102/15/2013

if not for the ink Josh Wald

by Boipussy Galorereply 9202/15/2013

Dillon Casey.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9302/15/2013

Bradley James from Merlin in a few years time. He's still too young now.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9402/15/2013

No American will ever be cast as James Bond.[Q]

If a Brit gets to play Superman, then a Yank should play Bond. In fact, it should be a requirement.

I agree with 92 that Josh Wald would have a great look, but can he act? Clive Owen would have been a great choice 10 years ago. He (like Craig) ain't aging too well.

And Daniel Craig "looks like a Russian cabbie" is the most accurate comment ever. But a HOT Russian cabbie.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9502/15/2013

R86 Idris Elba is a blah choice. He's a good actor but I can't see him as Bond. Colin Salmon who is another Black British actor and a veteran of the Bond films was considered. He's better looking and has a kind of cold hearted nature that would suit Bond very well.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9602/15/2013

When Daniel Craig was promoting the movie back in November he told interviewers he had signed on for two more.

That said, in six or so more years, Idris Elba will make a smashing addition to the canon.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9702/15/2013

What's Daniel Craig's real name? Vasily Danilovitch? Demitry Kronoslav?

by Boipussy Galorereply 9802/15/2013

Bea Arthur. Simple.

by Boipussy Galorereply 9902/15/2013

Cavill is far too young for the role. Also, he can't act. Tom Hardy would have been interestign. He comes from posh, but pretends to be a chav.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10002/15/2013

As the one who mentioned Colin Salmon earlier, I totally agree post person 96.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10102/15/2013

"Daniel Craig looks like a Nazi ideal. Those blue eyes don't seem human. He was the vision that Hitler had for the world"

I think you're right, R59, and I think it works for the role. Bond is spends his life lying to people, and killing when he has to, he's basically a career criminal with a thin veneer of civilization. Connery and Craig share a brutality that makes Bond believable (and a sexuality that makes him attractive), rather than a swanky cartoon like Roger Moore's Bond.

And I can't believe anyone is nostalgic about the Moore films, even a Soap fan! Has anyone seen those movies lately? They're terrible, and seen through modern eyes Moore is more femme than polished.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10202/15/2013

Rob James-Collier is a good choice, I hope I get to see him in movies or other BBC/UK shows broadcast in America. But, he and James Scott (also a fine choice) are a little young for the role.

John Barrowman, Clive Owen and Jason Isaacs are all pure sex appeal, but Daniel Craig is doing great, I see no need to change.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10302/15/2013

Elba is hot as hell, but I don't get the sense of menace/violence I do with Craig. He has a strong FU vibe I don't get with Elba, although I've only seen interviews and a bit of Luther.

Great, wonderful actor though.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10402/15/2013

The only problem with Daniel Craig is that he looks at least 10 years older than his age (and probably feels it), so he won't last long. Maybe one more film...

They should've gone with Clive.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10502/15/2013

r104, did you watch The Wire?

by Boipussy Galorereply 10602/15/2013

I was the first person on this thread to mention Elba. Did any of you poo-pooing him watch The Wire? He absolutely has the menacing aspect to him.

by Boipussy Galorereply 10702/15/2013

Pierce Brosnan should have never been tossed aside. The one, the only!

by Boipussy Galorereply 10802/18/2013

I'm a subscriber but don't know how to start a poll. Would anyone else like a poll on the best James Bond?

by Boipussy Galorereply 10902/18/2013

Chaz Bono

by Boipussy Galorereply 11002/18/2013

There is only one actor with the glamorous good looks, the masculinity and sense of humor right for Bond.

Unfortunately he's French: Jean Dujardin.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11102/18/2013

R111, Good choice but can he fake a British accent? Is his English at least good enough for other American movies? He's definitely suave; the French sure know how to make them. Yum-yum.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11202/18/2013

Mel Gibson would have been very funny.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11302/18/2013

Daniel Craig looks like a recent Romanian immigrant. He has the face of an unskilled day-labourer.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11402/18/2013

Henry Cavill in 5 years or three films, whichever is later.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11502/18/2013

Melissa McCarthy.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11602/18/2013

I could see that guy from that CW show, not the vampire one but the other with the 2 brothers hunting the monsters. Not the tall one, but the real pretty one with the green eyes. He'd be a killer Bond.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11702/18/2013

Although I agree that Connery and Craig are the most believable, I love the Roger Moore era too. The campiness and the fabulousness of that era in history made it great fun. Some of the best openings and songs came from that period.

I also love Her Majesty's Secret Service for a brief glimpse into a Bond with a heart. The guy who played him was just ok but it was a bit of a forerunner of Craig's CR.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11802/18/2013

I love Craig as Bond. I am a huge fan of the Bond novels and in terms of pure character, he is the closest to Fleming's creation IMO.

I think the team will keep Craig's energy and go with a guy who can be tough but vulnerable without descending into camp. Fassbender is the most likely choice.

by Boipussy Galorereply 11902/18/2013

Charlie Cox, late of "Boardwalk empire".

by Boipussy Galorereply 12002/18/2013

Why hasn't anyone brought up the most obvious choice...

by Boipussy Galorereply 12102/18/2013

My man Rufus Sewell!!

by Boipussy Galorereply 12202/18/2013

The Britsh guy that plays Aiden on _Revenge_.

by Boipussy Galorereply 12302/18/2013

" Fassbender is the most likely choice. "

Fassbender is a fine actor, but physically he's a skinny little thing. A good Bond should be able to be physically impressive.

by Boipussy Galorereply 12402/19/2013

Antony Hamilton would have been perfect!!!!

by Boipussy Galorereply 12505/27/2013

anthony Hamilton troll is out of control

by Boipussy Galorereply 12605/27/2013

Carrot Top.

by Boipussy Galorereply 12705/28/2013

Kirk Cameron.

by Boipussy Galorereply 12805/28/2013

Jason Patric

by Boipussy Galorereply 12905/29/2013

that cumberbatch dude

by Boipussy Galorereply 13005/29/2013

Daniel Craig can fuck my boicooter.

But aside from him, I'll take the Brits: Colin Firth, Jude Law or Clive Owen.

by Boipussy Galorereply 13105/29/2013

Josh Wald.... although I am concerned about the tattoos.

by Boipussy Galorereply 13205/29/2013

I would really, REALLY like to see Benedict Cumberbacht play James Bond!

Or a Bond Villain, I'll take what I can get.

by Boipussy Galorereply 13305/30/2013

What about Tom Hiddleston?

by Boipussy Galorereply 13405/30/2013

[quote]If I had to pick an American Bond, I'd pick Matt Bomer.

This? ROFL!

by Boipussy Galorereply 13505/30/2013

I doubt any actor of note is keen on playing 007. That's why they get people like Craig who is a really shitty actor. 007 is basically a very stereotypical character, who never gets anything interesting to do in a movie. The most interesting element in a Bond movie is the villain. Maybe they should give the role to Pattison or any other of those boring pretty face newcomers that are out there.

by Boipussy Galorereply 13605/30/2013

[quote]DL favorite Henry Cavill lost the role to Craig.

How could this be true? Fat Cavill was only 22 when they cast Craig. They were not going to have a 22 year old Bond.

by Boipussy Galorereply 13705/30/2013

Tom Hiddleston

by Boipussy Galorereply 13805/30/2013

Rosie O'Donnell

by Boipussy Galorereply 13905/30/2013

If I had to pick an American Bond, I'd pick Matt Bomer Jr. (crying)

by Boipussy Galorereply 14005/30/2013

Tom Hardy Michael Fassbender

by Boipussy Galorereply 14105/30/2013

Antony Hamilton.

by Boipussy Galorereply 14206/09/2013

I finally saw "Skyfall" last night, and it reaffirmed my fondness for Craig's Bond. Bond is a hired killer with a thin veneer of civilization keeping him on track, Craig shows how very thin the civilized exterior really is.

He should stay on for a while, especially if the supporting cast is going to be weaker.
