Men and Women Who Are Both Extremely Good-Looking and Extremely Intelligent

Like, who?

by Anonymousreply 12202/16/2013

by Anonymousreply 102/14/2013

Ben Affleck

by Anonymousreply 202/14/2013

I personally know several people who meet your description, OP (it's enough to give you complexes, I'm telling you!).

However, none of these people is famous, and in fact I think that very few extremely intelligent people court fame. They realize what a pain in the ass it really is.

by Anonymousreply 302/14/2013

Ronan Farrow.

by Anonymousreply 402/14/2013

Seriously just form a screen grab please of R1 and R2.

by Anonymousreply 502/14/2013

Mary Lou Henner

by Anonymousreply 602/14/2013

Hedy Lamarr

by Anonymousreply 702/14/2013

DL's own Daphne Zuniga, one of the inventors of Blu-ray, of course.

by Anonymousreply 802/14/2013

Brian Cox

by Anonymousreply 902/14/2013

Marilyn Vos Savant

by Anonymousreply 1002/14/2013

Definitely Dr. Brian Cox.

by Anonymousreply 1102/14/2013

Barack, Meryl, Anderson

by Anonymousreply 1202/14/2013

James Franco

by Anonymousreply 1302/14/2013

Dolph Lundgren

by Anonymousreply 1402/14/2013

Uneducated George Clooney. Really?

by Anonymousreply 1502/14/2013

Brian Cox is attractive but not "extremely good looking."

by Anonymousreply 1602/14/2013

Sharon Stone

by Anonymousreply 1702/14/2013

I do think Sharon Stone is smart (and eccentric.) She made some comment about the "rarefied air" that Gwyneth Paltrow lives in that was so spot on.

by Anonymousreply 1802/14/2013

Angelina Jolie

by Anonymousreply 1902/14/2013

Jack Dorsey wins this.

by Anonymousreply 2002/14/2013

Mike Branson, Esquire.

by Anonymousreply 2102/14/2013

Susan Malveaux

by Anonymousreply 2202/14/2013

Aisha Tyler

Mohawk Guy

Nigella Lawson

by Anonymousreply 2302/14/2013

These kinds are most likely not in the public eye because being famous is not something a really intelligent person typically aspires to. You usually find them in fortune 500 companies where their intelligence and looks have allowed them to climb the ladder faster than other mere mortals. Walk into any Wall Street investment bank and you will gorgeous men and women sitting in the boardrooms.

by Anonymousreply 2402/14/2013

Kate Beckinsale

by Anonymousreply 2502/14/2013

Sharon Stone lied about her alleged IQ, btw.

by Anonymousreply 2602/14/2013

Jodie Foster

by Anonymousreply 2702/14/2013

I think Neil deGrasse Tyson is rather handsome.

by Anonymousreply 2802/14/2013

Marissa Mayer

by Anonymousreply 2902/14/2013

Donald Trump

by Anonymousreply 3002/14/2013

Jolie, Clooney and Affleck are ridiculous. None are extremely intelligent but they do have extremely intelligent handlers.

by Anonymousreply 3102/14/2013

Elizabeth Taylor -- really

by Anonymousreply 3202/14/2013

The Late Great Princess Di

by Anonymousreply 3302/14/2013

Jeremy Scahill

by Anonymousreply 3402/14/2013

R4 beat me to it. I love his latest tweet: 'You say "Valentine's Day", I say "Sobbing Into A Vat Of Ice Cream While Endlessly Re-Running 'The Notebook' Day." Potato potahto.'

He can be my valentine. I'd do more for him than a vat of ice cream. Or, better still, he can have me covered in a vat of ice cream.

by Anonymousreply 3502/14/2013

Morgan Fairchild is pretty brainy.

Danica McKellar of The Wonder Years is now a mathematician and physics theorist.

by Anonymousreply 3602/14/2013

Angelina Jolie? That woman has the brains of a flea!

Marilu Henner? She was never what you'd call "extremely good-looking", just attractive in a kind of offbeat way. And she's not that intelligent. She just has that weird condition where you're able to remember everything.

Jodie Foster was NEVER "exceptionally good-looking." And she's not as smart as she's cracked up to be. In fact at times she's been incredibly stupid.

Elizabeth Taylor was incredibly uneducated and had little in the way of intelligence. She was shrewd, but not intelligent.

Princess Di was a birdbrain who flunked out of school. "Thick as a plank", she once honestly called herself.

by Anonymousreply 3702/14/2013

Hedy Lamarr

r35, didn't Ronan Farrow use a similar construction on Father's Day? I hope he has some happy holidays.

by Anonymousreply 3802/14/2013

Elizabeth Kucinich is very well-educated, very smart and very hot. She is a little strange, though. She's gorgeous and she married the tiny, much older, bat-eared, unprepossessing Dennis Kucinich. I guess she loves him for his mind.

by Anonymousreply 3902/14/2013

I think Jodie Foster is extremely bright, and yes quite beautiful. You try and get into Yale by the way.

Afflect and Clooney are both bright too, but for me neither is beautiful- pleasant looking but not gorgeous.

Meryl Streep is very smart, Streisand is very very bright (perhaps not a beauty). Daniel Day Lewis is very bright although perhaps not beautiful for some (I think he's one of the most attractive or all current screen actors.) Alec Baldwin is smart (not any of his brothers.) Rob Lowe is pretty smart too. Sean Penn is smart and I think Michael Fasbinder (sp) and what's his name the latest Bond as well. Kate Blanchett sp? is smart.

Ali McGraw is very bright and still beautiful, just cannot act to save her life.

by Anonymousreply 4002/14/2013

But I prefer leading a quiet, anonymous - and rewarding - life.

Thanks for asking!

by Anonymousreply 4102/14/2013

Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford, the late Peter Jennings

by Anonymousreply 4202/14/2013

the current potus and flotus.

by Anonymousreply 4302/14/2013

Jennifer Beals

Angela Basset

by Anonymousreply 4402/14/2013

"Extremely intelligent" in the world of celebrities = "fairly bright, can hold a conversation." The standards are simply lower.

by Anonymousreply 4502/14/2013

Famke Janssen - not sure she's extremely intelligent, but for Hollywood she might be considered so.

Studied at Columbia and the uni of Amsterdam, and speaks 4 languages (though her French is not that great). She was accepted to AFI based on a screenplay she wrote in the 90s before she had her breakout role.

Wrote, directed, and produced her first feature film recently and it was decent. Has written more scripts she is hoping to direct.

by Anonymousreply 4602/14/2013

also, there is more than just one dimension to intelligence. Some of the people mentioned have incredible interpersonal intelligence. There are so many different types of intelligence, not just the narrow one typically valued in western society.

by Anonymousreply 4702/14/2013

Many Dutch people based in the US (or even the UK) who have a smattering of German and French because they learned it in high school say they speak four languages. They imagine they will never be challenged on it, being surrounded mostly by monolinguals.

by Anonymousreply 4802/14/2013

I meant to say: "are fluent in"

by Anonymousreply 4902/14/2013

It's already been mentioned multiple times, but I also came here to say Hedy Lamarr.

She was gorgeous and fucking brilliant. Go read up on it, her entire life plays like a movie. (she was practically a prisoner in her jealous husband's case at one point, and she escaped by wearing a disguise and taking off to Paris)

Go read up on her mathematical brilliance and the thkngs she helped discover and invent.

by Anonymousreply 5002/14/2013

[quote]Some of the people mentioned have incredible interpersonal intelligence.

WTF is "interpersonal intelligence"?

by Anonymousreply 5102/14/2013

My friend, but I must say, I believe she's had some "work" done.

by Anonymousreply 5202/14/2013

I was going to nominate Emma Thompson, but I think Hedy Lamarr wins this title by a mile.

by Anonymousreply 5302/14/2013

[quote]Streisand is very very bright (perhaps not a beauty)

PERHAPS not a beauty?

Also, she's not that bright. You can tell because he overcompensates. Her directorial choices and her basement mall show a lack of intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 5402/14/2013

That sounds pretty intelligent R46.

by Anonymousreply 5502/14/2013

"Uneducated George Clooney."

Education doesn't equal intelligence, fyi. Many a brilliant writer were either college drop outs or never went at all: Truman Capote, Gore Vidal, Carson McCullers, John Cheever.

Anyway. This is a hard one. I also know people in real life who are hot and brilliant.

But here goes: artist Matthew Barney. Former J Crew model, and now a preeminent artist.

Movie director David Fincher. In pictures he's just OK. But I met him in person and the guy is fucking hot in a rugged kind of way.

Milla Jovavich - I think she is stunning and a solid musician. Even read some poetry she wrote and it was very evocative and literary.

I also nominate Jodie Foster. I always thought she was stunning. And her intelligence just shines through - well, except during the golden globes and that awful, rambling speech she gave.

by Anonymousreply 5602/14/2013

R48 I know ;) she freely admits this in interviews. She seems to have good comprehension in French but her vocab does not seem to b very large. She may just be shy. If someone asked me to speak French in an interview, I'd probably be too embarrassed.

R51 See Theory of Multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. Simply put, he posits that there are various types of intelligence, not just mathematical/linguistic/spatial that is traditionally valued in western culture. Pretty obvious, I know.

by Anonymousreply 5702/14/2013

R47, R57, I agree that OP's post is way too general. By "good-looking," are we including both the person's face and body? How about considering those that photograph well but are not as attractive in person? What if their personality "needs improvement?"

Re "intelligence," are we referring to IQ, artistic skill or creativity, ability to manage others and take advantage of their natural gifts?

by Anonymousreply 5802/14/2013

Well here's the answer for you, OP. The Winklevoss Twins.

by Anonymousreply 5902/14/2013

If they don't have to be movie stars, then Elon Musk.

by Anonymousreply 6002/14/2013

I worked with a guy years ago.

He was breaktakingly handsome. Stop traffic dead in the street kind of good looking. Jet black hair, deep blue eyes. He was gorgeous.

Very very smart, and a genuinely nice guy.

Married a very rich socialite. Everyone used to say "Lucky bitch"

by Anonymousreply 6102/14/2013

Jennifer Beals is "extremely intelligent?" How do you figure THAT? She's never exhibited anything resembling great "intelligence."

Barbra Streisand?!! You must be BLIND! And extremely intelligent? No, not really. Very stuck up and egotistical but not intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 6202/14/2013

Catherine Deneuve.

by Anonymousreply 6302/14/2013

Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Granholm, Donna Tartt (though where have you been lately), Lisa Randall (physicist), Neil Tyson (physicist), Olivia Judson (biologist/writer).

by Anonymousreply 6402/14/2013

Zadie Smith, Thandie Newton, Rula Jubreal, Van Jones

by Anonymousreply 6502/14/2013

People who know Angelina Jolie remark that she is very intelligent and diligent in her pursuits. Not sure why this is so unbelievable - she comes from a family of very bright and creative people like her uncles.

by Anonymousreply 6602/14/2013

Well, looking like an anorexic junkie doesn't help, R66.

by Anonymousreply 6702/14/2013

R51, "Interpersonal intelligence" or "emotional intelligence." refers to the ability to relate to different kinds of people, and to make them respect and like you. Some think that it's a backhanded slap at geniuses of high IQ who are lacking in the social graces and are considered stereotypical nerds. George Clooney has a rep as the "Mayor of Hollywood," being skilled in the Southern tradition of hospitality and graciousness.

by Anonymousreply 6802/14/2013

Jake Gyllenhaal

by Anonymousreply 6902/14/2013

Mira Sorvino

by Anonymousreply 7002/14/2013

Alicia Witt

by Anonymousreply 7102/14/2013

All my exes.

Unfortunately, they were also batshit crazy.

Brilliant and gorgeous is a bad combination.

by Anonymousreply 7202/14/2013

[quote]I do think Sharon Stone is smart (and eccentric.) She made some comment about the "rarefied air" that Gwyneth Paltrow lives in that was so spot on.

I don't know about Stone's intelligence, but how is that comment perceptive? It's the most blatantly obvious thing you could mention about Gwyneth.

by Anonymousreply 7302/15/2013

The mohawk guy on the mars rover team.

by Anonymousreply 7402/15/2013

Does the sexual orientation matter for the extremely good looking and extremely intelligent guy?

by Anonymousreply 7502/15/2013

Apparently it does R75.

by Anonymousreply 7602/15/2013

Good point, R47.The western perception of intelligence is very limited.

by Anonymousreply 7702/15/2013

Dr. Ben Carson when he was young. I'm not sure that he was "extremely" good looking but he was good looking and very bright. He isn't very popular right now, though.

by Anonymousreply 7802/15/2013

[quote]I don't know about Stone's intelligence, but how is that comment perceptive? It's the most blatantly obvious thing you could mention about Gwyneth.

She said it about Gwyneth waaaaaay before anybody else said it. I agree that it doesn't take any great insight to see that about GP, but I liked the way Sharon put it.

by Anonymousreply 7902/15/2013

Sean Penn? Sean Penn?? In what world is Sean Penn even remotely good-looking?

by Anonymousreply 8002/15/2013

80 posts and and you cunts haven't mentioned me yet?!

by Anonymousreply 8102/15/2013

Who's hotter? The extremely good looking, extremely intelligent gay guy? Or, the extremely good looking, extremely intelligent straight guy?

by Anonymousreply 8202/15/2013

Julianne Moore, seriously

by Anonymousreply 8302/15/2013

Sharon Stone only made that comment about Gwyneth in response to Gwyneth's portrayal of her in an SNL skit. And the skit was a dead on impression of Stone's ridiculous "I am TOO a star" attitude after her career had already hit the skids.

by Anonymousreply 8402/15/2013

Charlize Theron, I doubt she has a B.A. M.B.A. or P.H.D., but she makes more sense in unscripted interviews than I have ever seen with any other actress.

by Anonymousreply 8502/15/2013

[quote]You try and get into Yale by the way.

Easy peasy.

by Anonymousreply 8602/15/2013

[quote]People who know Angelina Jolie remark that she is very intelligent and diligent in her pursuits.

Yes: those would be her children. And she locks them in a dark closet if they say otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 8702/15/2013

I adore Streisand but some of her preliminary emails were sent out with more spelling and grammatical errors than one would expect from an "educated" person.

Also, would one really call Barbra extremely good-looking? Striking yes, but that is about it.

Anyway I think back in his day William Hurt was very handsome and I believe he is extremely intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 8802/15/2013

Peter and Harry Brant

by Anonymousreply 8902/15/2013

Natalie Portman owns this thread.

by Anonymousreply 9002/15/2013

Can you quote one really intelligent, insightful thing said by Jodie Foster? I have read quite a few of her interviews and she comes off as someone who thinks she is very intelligent, but is just average.

That article she wrote about Kristen Stewart and celebrity culture was full of poorly articulated thoughts.

And her speech at GG had no wit or wisdom to it.

by Anonymousreply 9102/15/2013

[quote]Also, would one really call Barbra extremely good-looking?

No one except her deluded batshit crazy fangurls. But as you can see they are just nuts.

by Anonymousreply 9202/15/2013

I don't know how intelligent Sigourney Weaver is, but she seems pretty thoughtful in interviews. And I heard from those who had dealings with her that she is an attentive conversationalist (that is probably just good manners on her part).

by Anonymousreply 9302/15/2013

You have to use Hollywood standards, R91. Compare her with the likes of Demi Moore.

by Anonymousreply 9402/15/2013

Linda Ronstadt, Marliu Henner

by Anonymousreply 9502/15/2013

LISA RANDALL, tenured professor of physics at Harvard. Absolutely GORGEOUS by any standard. Never been married, no children, never linked to anyone romantically, at least publically. It's anyone's guess why she stays in the closet.

by Anonymousreply 9602/15/2013

Well in that case, she is a genius then R94

by Anonymousreply 9702/15/2013

Well, if we're going to stoop to comparing to the likes of Demi Moore, then even Jessica Simpson is a fucking Marie Curie.

I seriously doubt Demi has the capacity to add double-digit numbers mentally.

by Anonymousreply 9802/15/2013

Patty Smith..

by Anonymousreply 9902/15/2013

oops wrong thread, should have posted on that OTHER one

by Anonymousreply 10002/15/2013

Danica McKellar, who was Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years, is a math whiz with a reported IQ of 154.

by Anonymousreply 10102/16/2013

Lisa Kudrow.

by Anonymousreply 10202/16/2013

Gore Vidal in his prime and beyond was probably the best-looking public intellectual of his time. He'd have been the very first not to deny that. ("A narcissist is just someone better looking than you are.")

Christopher Hitchens before booze-bloat and then the crab also had looks to match his handsome intellect. ("Better looking than any man has the right to be.")

Both accordingly never missed, in Vidal's formulation, the chance to have sex or appear on TV.

by Anonymousreply 10302/16/2013

Ari Melber

by Anonymousreply 10402/16/2013

Christopher Hitchens was very good looking in his 20s before he became famous. But as soon as he started appearing on TV his looks went rapidly downhill. Booze and ciggies and eating too much do a real number on you. By his early 30s he was repulsive looking.

Vidal didn't decline as quickly, and was extremely pretty in his 20s and 30s and was distinguished looking well into his forties. Unfortunately, he lived well into his eighties. He could still get it by paying for it after age 50 (and did he ever!), but a lifetime of poisonousness did a number on his looks too.

My grandma was right. By fifty, you get the face you deserve.

by Anonymousreply 10502/16/2013

Ashley Judd, Kirsten Gillibrand

by Anonymousreply 10602/16/2013

Extremely good-looking and extremely intelligent is difficult to find among well-known figures. You'd have to lower the bar to maybe attractive and intelligent to find more people.

by Anonymousreply 10702/16/2013

I really hate to say this, but Mitt Romney fits.

by Anonymousreply 10802/16/2013

Victoria Jackson

by Anonymousreply 10902/16/2013

Kathleen Turner. One of the smartest people I've ever met, and certainly was one of the best looking in her day.

by Anonymousreply 11002/16/2013

[quote] "Extremely intelligent" in the world of celebrities = "fairly bright, can hold a conversation." The standards are simply lower.

You can say THAT again. Have you ever noticed how incredibly dumbed-down the questions are when celebrities play each other on Jeopardy?

No one's mentioned Brooke Sheilds yet? Princeton alum, comes across as intelligent in interviews. She's lost her looks somewhat, although she's still attractive.

Lena Horne was extremely intelligent, though not formally educated. She was a lifelong reader and came from a very accomplished family, which may have helped considering she was a high school dropout.

by Anonymousreply 11102/16/2013

Brooke Shields.

by Anonymousreply 11202/16/2013

Do you suffer from a clinical mental illness, r108?

by Anonymousreply 11302/16/2013

Brooke Shields is an idiot. And please don't start with that "she graduated from Princeton!" shit. Strings were pulled to get her into Princeton and she was allowed to graduate without the requisite math and science credits. I think a lot of celebrities who have college degrees get preferential treatment that allows to get degrees that don't deserve.

by Anonymousreply 11402/16/2013

"and she was allowed to graduate without the requisite math and science credits. "

really? how do you know this?

by Anonymousreply 11502/16/2013

doh shit! you're right!

from wikipedia:

"On the op-ed page of The New York Times, she was scrutinized after she had publicized her school records in the July 1987 edition of Life Magazine shortly after graduation from Princeton. The criticism emphasized that Shields did not take any courses in history, mathematics, philosophy, economics, world literature or science with laboratory experience.[19]"

by Anonymousreply 11602/16/2013

Harvard grad, billionaire, and serviceable presidential candidate despite several things that should have made him impossible to elect. Mitt Romney is many horrible things, but among these he is also good-looking and extremely intelligent.

The genetic lottery doesn't discriminate against mad religions or greedy much as you'd like it to, r113. Obama fits too, but he'd already been mentioned upthread.

by Anonymousreply 11702/16/2013

Howard Dean. Very smart and oh so fuckable.

by Anonymousreply 11802/16/2013

R111, they also dumb down the questions for the Senior tournaments. The Teens get the hardest questions of all.

by Anonymousreply 11902/16/2013

Al Gore (in younger days)

by Anonymousreply 12002/16/2013

Jodie Foster, although she has issues.

by Anonymousreply 12102/16/2013

I love that Jodie can publicly come out as an atheist but not as a lesbian. Admittedly, she is very very sharp. Recent, rambling speeches excepted, she has come off as a smart person in her public life.
