What are the current TV shows with gay characters?

I know about Downton Abbey, The New Normal, Days of Our Lives and Spartacus. Are there any others?

by Anonymousreply 59606/12/2017

Who's gay on Downton Abbey. I missed the first 2 seasons and just started watching it.

by Anonymousreply 102/10/2013

Thomas on downton

by Anonymousreply 202/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 302/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 402/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 502/10/2013

Happy Endings

by Anonymousreply 602/10/2013

Revenge, The Good Wife, Modern Family, Shameless, Happy Endings

by Anonymousreply 702/10/2013

Grey's Anatomy has a lesbo couple.

by Anonymousreply 802/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 902/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 1002/10/2013

Fox Evening News with Sheperd Smith

by Anonymousreply 1102/10/2013

Who's gay in Revenge?

by Anonymousreply 1202/10/2013

I assume they mean Nolan, who is a bisexual character, not gay. One of the very few male bisexual characters of television.

by Anonymousreply 1302/10/2013

General Hospital

by Anonymousreply 1402/10/2013

There's a lesbian on Go On

by Anonymousreply 1502/10/2013

I'm not caught up with The Following, that Kevin Bacon show, but according to another DL thread at least one of the two guys that were making out with each other on the new episode is supposedly gay.

by Anonymousreply 1602/10/2013

I guess we're supposed to assume that Sue's friend on "The Middle" is gay.

by Anonymousreply 1702/10/2013

Girls and Shameless have principal gay characters, as well as this season of Californication having an interesting storyline about the "first fully out A-list actor" played by a very hot actor called Johann Urb.

by Anonymousreply 1802/10/2013

I'm not sure about Shameless US, but Shameless UK had several gay characters. The gay son had an active sex life and then when he left the show, the son of the gangster had all sorts of gay sex.

Mad Men had a gay character in the first season. And let's hope that when Mad Men reaches 1969, Don Draper will be an active part of Stonewall and decide to shack up with a younger man (I'm hoping it will be the blonde guy Cosgrove).

by Anonymousreply 1902/10/2013

There's a flamboyant gay latino man on Reba's Malibu Country. Nice to tick off a couple of minority boxes in one male package.

by Anonymousreply 2002/10/2013

Shameless has the gay son and he fucks guys in the show.

by Anonymousreply 2102/10/2013

Shameless US does not shy away from gay plotlines. Ian is a important character and his love life is a substantial part of the show. Entertaining little show.

I do think it is important to clarify how important the gay character is. There is a big difference between a gay recurring character who pops up in a supporting role and a gay series regular with real plotlines.

by Anonymousreply 2202/10/2013

by Anonymousreply 2302/10/2013
There's a flamboyant gay latino man on Reba's Malibu Country.

Complete with a Latino-fey accent .

by Anonymousreply 2402/10/2013

White Collar (Matt Bomer offscreen, the black woman onscreen)

by Anonymousreply 2502/10/2013

R24 - that's Jai Rodriguez. It's his first job since QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY went off the air...

by Anonymousreply 2602/10/2013

Does Billy on the Street on the FUSE channel count?

by Anonymousreply 2702/10/2013

Don't forget all those gay dancing pro boys on "Dancing with the Stars"!

by Anonymousreply 2802/10/2013

Has anyone noticed a gay vibe between Raj and Stewart (owner of the comic book store) on "The Big Bang Theory?" It started last season and seems to be building very, very, very slowly. I hope the producers go for it.

by Anonymousreply 2902/10/2013

What about Danny and McGarrett on Hawaii 5-0? They bicker like two bitchy queens, and when James Caan guested his character even asked if the two of them were "an item". And we all know about Scott Caan in real life....

by Anonymousreply 3002/10/2013

There is a lesbian character on Chicago Fire.

by Anonymousreply 3102/10/2013

Ah, Scotty...

by Anonymousreply 3202/10/2013

[italic]Supernatural[/italic] has a recurring character, Charlie, who is an out lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 3302/10/2013

And Supernatural has the gay angel Castiel

by Anonymousreply 3402/10/2013

True Blood's Layfayette, Russell Edgington (sp), Steve Newlin, Pam, Tara and whomever they hook up with.

House of Lies's Roscoe Kaan (well, gender queer really)

by Anonymousreply 3502/11/2013

Who's the gay on Scandal?

by Anonymousreply 3602/11/2013

Does Shameless US show peen? In the first episode of Shameless UK, Dean Lennox Kelly who plays Kev, rolls over in bed and we see everything. That's the first inkling that Ian, who sees it happen, is gay.

by Anonymousreply 3702/11/2013

That scene is duplicated in the US version, r37. Big, flaccid peen and all.

by Anonymousreply 3802/11/2013

Did we ever do a thread where we suggest straight TV characters should be gay? That would be fun.

by Anonymousreply 3902/12/2013

by Anonymousreply 4002/13/2013

by Anonymousreply 4102/13/2013

R26 Jai hosted "Groomer Has It" on Animal Planet for two seasons. He did guest appearances on various TV shows since QEfSG.

by Anonymousreply 4202/13/2013

Fran Descher's Happily Divorced

The Carrie Diaries

Teen Wolf

Pretty Little Liars (lesbian)

American Horror Story: Asylum (lesbian / this one finished a couple of weeks ago)- First season had gay characters.

Banshee (minor character though)

by Anonymousreply 4302/13/2013

oops, Fran Drescher, of course.

by Anonymousreply 4402/14/2013

Bob's Burgers may not have explicitly gay characters (besides the guy on roller skates), but it has lots of gay character.

and Gene "I'm a Top" Belcher will be coming out any episode now

by Anonymousreply 4502/14/2013

The Office

SNL (Stefon)

Family Guy

The Simpsons

South Park

Breaking Bad (dead now)

2.5 Men (bisexual)

by Anonymousreply 4602/14/2013

R36 the White House Chief of Staff is gay and in a same sex marriage.

by Anonymousreply 4702/14/2013

Kevin Spacey on "House of Cards" is bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 4802/14/2013

R26, Jai had a guest appearance on Days, he played a guy Will was supposedly interested in.

The Carrie Diaries has a really cute gay character, Walt Reynolds. His storyline has barely started, but he did have a gay moment in episode 4. The show is doing horribly in the ratings though, so don't be surprised if it's canceled.

by Anonymousreply 4902/14/2013

White Collar: FBI agent, Diana, is a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 5002/14/2013

Obviously, the gay cop on Southland...

by Anonymousreply 5102/14/2013
Jai had a guest appearance on Days, he played a guy Will was supposedly interested in.
No, Jai played a newscaster on Days. At the time, Will was not out as gay, not even to the viewers.

Anyway, I must admit Days are playing some pretty hot gay scenes. Today, they had Will dreaming of Sunny. He appeared in the shower, and they started kissing.

However, nothing was hotter than the drunk "straight" Will kissing some random dude in the tunnel.

by Anonymousreply 5202/14/2013

I know that, R52.. but the whole point of Jai's character was getting Will to figure out he was gay, basically.

by Anonymousreply 5302/15/2013

Sherlock BBC! Current if they continue one day.

by Anonymousreply 5402/15/2013

There's DL favorite Thor the male nurse on Nurse Jackie, which also houses O'Hara, a bisexual female doctor.

For another riveting bisexual chick, we have Kalinda on The Good Wife, which occassionally throws us a scene once in a blue moon featuring Alicia's bitchy but wimpy gay brother, Owen.

Felix on General Hospital is the Richard Simmons of the 21st century.

by Anonymousreply 5502/15/2013

AE has a story about a new CBS pilot called The Mcarthys.

"Jake Lacy will play gay character Ronnie in the new CBS pilot The McCarthys. "the smart, funny, neurotic son who came out to his family two years ago. He’s finally decided to move out and begin a life away from his family, but they keep finding ways to involve him in their drama."

This sounds interesting so I hope it gets picked up. There's also some shirtless pics around and he's kind of hot.

by Anonymousreply 5602/15/2013

r47, I don't watch Scandal, but I'm assuming you do and I have a question. Or anyone else who knows can answer to.

Tonight I saw a commercial for the new episode. Sam Page was on saying to Kerry Washington "You want me to be the first gay Governor of North Carolina?" She says, "Yup." He says, "OK, lets' find me a fake wife."

Is he the same character as the White House Chief of Staff that you mentioned in your post? Or is this another guy?

I'm wondering if that would make the show worth checking out. Sam Page is kind of cute, and he sure plays gay a lot.

by Anonymousreply 5702/22/2013

There's an Australian comedy show called Please Like Me with Josh Thomas. Thomas plays a neurotic dweeb who struggles with coming to terms with being gay while he's in his first gay relationship (and the guy is, like, hot).

by Anonymousreply 5803/08/2013

BBC's miniseries In the Flesh. Anything more may spoil the whole show. It's pretty intense though.

by Anonymousreply 5903/28/2013

There's hardly any gay characters on tv right now, that's the point. This looks really good though..

by Anonymousreply 6006/14/2014

Penny Dreadful anyone?

by Anonymousreply 6106/14/2014

by Anonymousreply 6206/14/2014

by Anonymousreply 6306/14/2014

by Anonymousreply 6406/14/2014

The Simpsons' Mr. Smithers

South Park's Mr. Garrison

by Anonymousreply 6506/14/2014

R30 -- I thought Dan-O and McGarrett were a couple back when the original series was new!

by Anonymousreply 6606/14/2014

Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie. Bert confessed to me he was a bottom and loves it when Ernie does unspeakable things to him with a turkey baster.

by Anonymousreply 6706/14/2014

Did anyone catch Tyrant? What do we think? I thought it was fairly good, though a bit clichéd. And it's so obvious the guy playing the main character isn't Arab. That said, I did like the gay storyline.

The fact that they never mentioned Sammy being gay was very refreshing. They just let it play out, Sammy being confident and flirting with the other guy in the steam room said it all.

by Anonymousreply 6806/27/2014

I like Tyrant, good show. As to the gay son, Sammy, he is way too confident for a supposedly 16-year teen in an Muslem country.

by Anonymousreply 6906/27/2014

Allegedly "Vampire Diaries", but it might as well NOT have one.

True Blood of course.

by Anonymousreply 7006/27/2014

I disagree, R69. I think he's clueless and naive, just like many other guys his age. He just doesn't think. He seems a bit dumb, especially with him admiring his obviously crazy uncle. That says it all. His younger sister seems smarter and more enlightened though.

by Anonymousreply 7106/27/2014

Shows with gay (male) characters this summer:

The Night Shift, Tyrant, Days of our Lives, True Blood, Penny Dreadful, Eastenders (British), Emmerdale (British), A Place To Call Home (Australian).

by Anonymousreply 7206/29/2014

Looks like Dominion has a new gay character. He's hot too!

by Anonymousreply 7307/07/2014

"Shameless" has the best gay male plot line with Ian/Mickey of any show I can think of currently airing on US television (ignoring a gay niche show like Looking).

I honestly can't think of anything that beats it.

by Anonymousreply 7407/07/2014

Last week's Major Crimes had a blistering outing of Rusty the twink whore by his drug addled bio-mom.

by Anonymousreply 7507/07/2014

Hit The Floor (VH1) has a new gay storyline. It even had a guest appearance by Scott Evans!

by Anonymousreply 7607/26/2014

The Backlot's piece on Hit The Floor

by Anonymousreply 7707/26/2014

The actor who plays Sammi on "Tyrant" is at least 18-years old. I understand that Sammi is supposed to be 16, and his sister is older I believe.

by Anonymousreply 7807/26/2014

Degrassi, ok so it's Canadian, but it seems like it has a gay character and now possibly two.

by Anonymousreply 7908/01/2014

Video of the (possible) gay couple on Degrassi.

by Anonymousreply 8008/01/2014

Major Crimes has at least three.

by Anonymousreply 8108/01/2014

The blond lesbian copy on Rookie Blue.

by Anonymousreply 8208/01/2014

Lost Girl has a bisexual woman (Bo) and a lesbian (Lauren).

by Anonymousreply 8308/01/2014

R82, the question was GAY as in MALE.

by Anonymousreply 8408/01/2014

On "Last Tango in Halifax" (a PBS series and my favorite show on TV), one of the main characters is a lesbian (with her on-again, off-again GF). I also think her oldest son (occasionally bullied because he's "sensitive") will one day be coming out.

by Anonymousreply 8508/01/2014

I wonder if Thomas on "Downton Abbey" will ever have a boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 8608/01/2014

OK, thanks for playing, R85. But again, the question was MALE. This website is for gay men, hence we have interest in gay male characters, not lesbians. You can take that sh*t with you to L Chat, thanks.

I wish someone could make a new thread with MALE in the headline, so we won't get a gazillion lesbian answers again, because nobody here cares about lesbian tv characters.

by Anonymousreply 8708/01/2014

I care about lesbian tv characters. The more representation the better.

by Anonymousreply 8808/01/2014

Fine, R88. Go talk about lesbian characters on L Chat. And please.. it's not like the lesbians have a lack of representation. There's a lesbian on every tv show these days. Not so much for gay male characters.

by Anonymousreply 8908/01/2014

R89, why don't you start a new thread? Checking trolldar it seems that you're the only one having a problem, while there are multiple people posting about gay female characters. Why should one person get to dictate the thread?

by Anonymousreply 9008/01/2014

I'll just keep ignoring the troll at R90.

Here's current tv shows with gay characters:

True Blood

Penny Dreadful

Please Like Me

In The Flesh

Modern Family

Major Crimes

Hit The Floor

Teen Wolf

Masters Of Sex

The Night Shift

Days Of Our Lives

by Anonymousreply 9108/01/2014

In shameless US there are two gay characters that are in a relationship. Ian (one of the main characters) and mickey (the gansters son who is now also a main character) have a relationship throughout the entire show.

by Anonymousreply 9212/11/2014

Emmerdale (English), Degrassi (Canadian) and The Originals.

Empire starts on Fox in January.

by Anonymousreply 9312/11/2014

Yep R92, IMO Shameless is the television show that has the strongest gay (male) storyline. The relationship between Ian/Mickey has been fantastic with a powerhouse performance from Noel Fisher.

by Anonymousreply 9412/11/2014

Empire has an LGB character?

by Anonymousreply 9512/13/2014

The Flash - the police captain casually mentions his boyfriend sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 9612/13/2014

Just G, R95. His name is "Jamal" and he's played by Jussie Smollett.
The middle son, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), is a sensitive soul and musical prodigy who, unlike Hakeem, shies away from the spotlight. Jamal also happens to be gay, which infuriates and embarasses his father (Terrence Howard).

by Anonymousreply 9712/13/2014

by Anonymousreply 9801/12/2015

How about bi characters?

by Anonymousreply 9901/19/2015

Captain Holt on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is openly gay.

There's the lesbian moms on "The Fosters," with their youngest son, Jude, in the "questioning" category.

I don't believe Rusty from "Major Crimes" has categorical stated that he's gay. He was a prostitute for a time but all his sexual activity was for pay.

by Anonymousreply 10001/19/2015

The detective on "The Affair", played by Victor Williams, is gay.

by Anonymousreply 10101/19/2015

While Rusty hasn't ever officially come out and said it, R100, he's had crushes on men for the last year or so and stopped seeing that girl he went to school with. One episode was all about his crush from the TV show he worked on - he asked the guy out but the guy said Rusty was too young. That should make it pretty clear he's gay.

by Anonymousreply 10201/19/2015

Did they ever renew "In The Flesh" or is it officially on the trash heap?

by Anonymousreply 10301/19/2015

Just to piss off R84 etc... Gillian Anderson in The Fall beds men and women.

by Anonymousreply 10401/19/2015

R103, it's been cancelled.

This is a new gay comedy, based on the life of Dan Savage.

by Anonymousreply 10505/14/2015

Quantico will have gay characters.

by Anonymousreply 10607/25/2015

Switched At Birth has a new gay character.

by Anonymousreply 10710/14/2015

On recent streaming shows there is

Gay male Titus on Unbreakble Kimmy Schmidt

Lesbian Tammy and bisexual Sarah on Transparent

by Anonymousreply 10810/14/2015

Brooklyn 99

DOOL(Soon there won't be any more despite the claims of an anti-Will troll)

Modern Family

Black Sails

Major Crimes

by Anonymousreply 10910/14/2015

There's also:

The Walking Dead

A Place To Call Home

The Middle

Please Like Me

Hit The Floor

Faking It

How To Get Away With Murder

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Bold and the Beautiful (according to casting calls, though they might back out due to homophobic viewers)

by Anonymousreply 11010/15/2015

New gay on Switched at Birth?

by Anonymousreply 11110/15/2015

The sex scene on Please Like Me was surprisingly hot.

by Anonymousreply 11210/18/2015

The gay cop on the new brit show 'Cuffs' is hot!

by Anonymousreply 11310/29/2015

This should be restricted to shows with a significant gay character, someone that has a real plotline. Something like Agents of Shield R110 or the Flash just have minor gay characters which don't truly count.

by Anonymousreply 11410/29/2015

Cuffs just had a hot scene with Jake and Simon

by Anonymousreply 11511/05/2015

by Anonymousreply 11611/08/2015

by Anonymousreply 11711/08/2015

Nashville has a gay male character and of course there is the closet case Carol on The Walking Dead.

by Anonymousreply 11811/08/2015

Alex comes out in gif.

by Anonymousreply 11911/14/2015

Is "Cuffs" showing in the US? It couldn't be on BBC America because that would mean people running that channel would care about quality.

by Anonymousreply 12011/14/2015

R120, no. It is however available online if you know where to look :)

by Anonymousreply 12111/14/2015

They haven't actually come out and said she's gay, but Marianne Jean-Baptiste's character on "Blindspot" was shown having liplocks with another woman in flashbacks.

by Anonymousreply 12211/14/2015

Your right r122 she's probably a lesbian unless they claim she's bi.

The Arrow just added a gay black character and has lesbian Nyssa daughter of Ra's.

DOOL is virtually GOOL-LESS

B&B is supposedly going to add a bi character.

Jane the Virgin has two lesbian characters

by Anonymousreply 12311/14/2015

James and Henry finally had sex on A Place To Call Home.

by Anonymousreply 12412/02/2015
The Arrow just added a gay black character and has lesbian Nyssa daughter of Ra's.

Right, another "I'm gay but I don't get a love life" character. Isn't it funny how the gay male characters never get to kiss their loved ones, yet the lesbian characters get to kiss and have sex all the time? The gay character on The Flash is engaged (I think he's married now actually), and when he thought his fiance was dead, he HUGGED him when he found out he was alive! WTF?! Had these two been women you'd have seen them making out, yet since they are two men all they get is a hug. Same with the gay character on Agents of SHIELD, doesn't get a love life, or like I said, the gay character on Arrow. And the list goes on and on and on. It never ends. They can show gay characters as much as they want, but what is the point if they can't show all of them, including their love lives? I still remember the actor who played one of the gay characters in Black Sails saying they cut back the gay storyline because the writers/showrunners/whoever got cold feet. Lesbian pirates are ok, but not gay ones! Sure, there's some exceptions, Shameless and HTGAWM, but they are definitely in the minority. DOOL was actually not bad in this respect either, until the show was de-gayed of course.

by Anonymousreply 12512/02/2015

R125 there people complaining that the previous writers didn't use the vets enough and focused too much on the gay story and that they were pushing a "gay agenda" such as when they had Will and Sonny get married or there marital problems on display. Those same people are glad with the new direction the show has taken with the vets on display more and other vets coming back while the gay stuff has been toned down.

by Anonymousreply 13112/27/2015

by Anonymousreply 13212/27/2015

Days Of Our Lives

Crazy Ex Girlfriend

American Crime

Teen Wolf

The Walking Dead

How To Get Away With Murder
Some of these have barely there gays, but I'm gonna include them anyway..

Why? Barely there gay characters shouldn't count.

by Anonymousreply 14102/26/2016

The GOP debates.

by Anonymousreply 14202/26/2016
Why? Barely there gay characters shouldn't count.

Because if I didn't there'd only be like 5 shows worth mentioning. Most gay male characters on tv are neutered and barely there. Thank god for British and other international soaps.. that's where I currently get my fix of gay storylines.. like Eastenders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and the new show Crashing.

by Anonymousreply 14302/26/2016

The new flagship BBC spy drama, The Night Manager has a gay character; Major Corkoran. Plays fixer and right hand man to main baddie played by Hugh Laurie. Russell Tovey was in first episode too (might be in more, don't know)

by Anonymousreply 14402/26/2016

Mr Robot and Sense8

by Anonymousreply 14502/26/2016

Thanks for making me aware of that, R144, I didn't know. I've always been a fan of Tom Hiddleston but now I've got even more reason to watch. Again it just further proves that international tv shows, mainly British, are miles ahead of the good ol' USA when it comes to tv shows with gay characters. It's a sad state for gay tv shows in the US. Just last year, in 2015 (!) we had not one, but two shows, with male characters faking being gay. We also had one show where a gay male character had sex with a woman. That's how far we have come! It's absolutely shocking in this day and age. I'm sorry, I just don't trust American shows anymore. Not after the atrocities that was last year. I had to stop watching three shows because of their portrayal of gay men, it was wile. It was like we were back in the 1950s. Even more mind boggling is that these shows have gay showrunners. Actual gay men write horrific gay characters. I just don't get it. Do they suffer from internalized homophobia or something?

by Anonymousreply 14602/27/2016

Crazy Ex Girlfriend now has a gay and a bi character.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia had one of its characters coming out, only to go back in. Ugh..

Archie will hopefully be made into a tv show, and it'll have a gay character.

by Anonymousreply 14703/24/2016

R145, Mr Robot's bi character is a joke. He had sex with a guy ONCE in order to get information. He is married to a woman and has a kid. We haven't seen him with guys after that one scene. Sure... there's an older gay on the show too, but come on. Would be a lot more interesting if they could actually develop the bisexual guy further, but they're probably too afraid to piss off the fanboys. Funny that they don't seem to mind lesbians though!

by Anonymousreply 14803/24/2016

Once Upon A Time .... Dorothy Gale, Red Riding Hood = lesbian couple

by Anonymousreply 14904/29/2016

Nobody cares about lesbians, R149. This is a website for gay men.

by Anonymousreply 15006/06/2016
Would be a lot more interesting if they could actually develop the bisexual guy further, but they're probably too afraid to piss off the fanboys.

If they cared about that they wouldn't have done it in the first place. They choose to have him engage in a very graphic sex scene with another guy, it wasn't some safe for straight guys cutaway.

by Anonymousreply 15106/06/2016

I don't know if anyone cares about International shows, I mean.. people should, considering the badly written gay characters on American tv. They usually fall into either of these camps: barely there, neutered, stereotypical or all three. I find International shows much better at portraying gay male characters. It's funny but the US seem to have no problem portraying lesbian characters, they only seem to freak out when portraying gay male characters, never allowing them to get any screen time or love life.

Anyway.. here are some shows from other countries:

Emmerdale (England)

Hollyoaks (England)

EastEnders (England)

Coronation Street (England)

Holby City (England)

Sirens (England)

Neighbours (Australia)

Shortland Street (England)

Merli (Spain, Catalan)

Spangas (The Netherlands)

Le Secret des Balls (France)

Un posto al sole (Italy)

Schitt's Creek (Canada)

Orphan Black (Canada)

Øyevitne (Norway)

D83 (Germany)

Don't forget or they're dead r152 being killed off since that seems to keep happening lately on American tv(Quantico, DOOL, etc...)

by Anonymousreply 15306/06/2016

Velvet on Netflix

by Anonymousreply 15406/06/2016

The Walking Dead's much belated gay guy sucked. Of course we get an effeminate milquetoast instead of one of the swashbuckling straight guys. Have they killed him off yet? I hope so, such a disappointment.

by Anonymousreply 15506/06/2016

Maybe they will r155 since American tv shows like killing off gay characters.

by Anonymousreply 15606/06/2016

R155, are you watching FTWD? Because they have a black gay guy who isn't stereotypical at all. He's quite important to the show too.

Animal Kingdom has a gay storyline.

by Anonymousreply 15906/28/2016

What's Riverdale?

by Anonymousreply 16006/28/2016
The Walking Dead's much belated gay guy sucked. Of course we get an effeminate milquetoast instead of one of the swashbuckling straight guys. Have they killed him off yet? I hope so, such a disappointment.

I know! Gay men that use words like "Milquetoast" are so embarrassing...

by Anonymousreply 16106/28/2016

R158 some of those shows were already mentioned in the barely there and few of those shows nobody really cares that much about anymore.

by Anonymousreply 16206/28/2016

I know, R162. Gay storylines on American tv are awful. They are always neutered and/or barely there. Weird they don't seem to have that problem with lesbians though. Lesbian characters always get to have explicit sex on tv while gay male characters don't, hmm. This is why I mostly watch British shows. There are gays on Corrie, Hollyoaks, Eastenders, Emmerdale and Holby City. At least these characters are not neutered.

by Anonymousreply 16306/28/2016

R160, Riverdale is a new show that will premiere early next year. It's based on the Archie comics and will include the gay character Kevin Keller.

by Anonymousreply 16406/28/2016

Can't forget that when gays are no longer deemed "perfect" especially gay males the solution on American tv is to kill them off.

by Anonymousreply 16506/28/2016

Ugh.. I was so excited for the gay storyline on Animal Kingdom but now I realize it's yet another storyline with minimal screen time. The gay guy had zero gay related scenes in the new episode. At least the gay guy is not just barely there, that's something I guess. He gets stuff to do.. just no gay stuff. I always wanted a bad ass gay character, I guess he's as close as we're gonna get, even though they went with the cliche of the "weakest" male in the family, the outsider, being gay. And he's also a self hating closet case, sigh. I mean.. in that family, which his uber macho brothers it makes sense, it's realistic, but it still feels like a stupid trope we have seen a million times before. I just want a badass gay character who is out and proud, sorta like Connor on HTGAWM before he got a boyfriend and became lame. He wasn't exactly "badass", but at least he was out and proud and SEXUAL. One of two ain't so bad, but yeah.. been a while since we had an Omar type character (from The Wire).

by Anonymousreply 16706/30/2016

British shows with gay characters:

Coronation Street

Holby City

by Anonymousreply 16807/03/2016

It's been mentioned multiple times but How to Get Away With Murder is still probably the best representation of gays on American TV.

by Anonymousreply 16907/03/2016

Agatha Raisin (Sky1 UK) In the Club (BBC1 UK but just finished) Rovers (Sky1 UK, think this might have just finished too)

by Anonymousreply 17007/03/2016

That new show from the Lost creators Dead in the Summer features a gay character played by Ugly Betty's Mark Indelicato.

by Anonymousreply 17107/03/2016

The new Dr Who spin-off, Class, will be featuring a gay character. The news was released after Orlando which is the 'today' Patrick Ness is referring to in the tweet

by Anonymousreply 17207/03/2016

I don't know if the show has been mentioned already, but SyFy's Killjoys features a regular guest character who is gay. In the premiere episode of the second season Aaron Ashmore's character and the gay character pretend to be a gay couple and bicker at each other in order to cause a distraction. It's pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 17307/03/2016

r173 I thought he was gay but they never actually said in the first series of Killjoys. Hope he'll do a little more this Season

by Anonymousreply 17407/03/2016

I really wish Luke MacFarlane's character was gay R173

by Anonymousreply 17507/03/2016

There were a couple on Game of Thrones (Loras, Renly, Oberyn Martell), but now they've all been killed off except for Yara.

by Anonymousreply 17607/03/2016

Desperate Housewives -- Bree's son, and Gabby's gay pool boy or gardener or whoever, who Carlos beat up because he thought he was having an affair with Gabby.

Reno 911 -- Lt. Dangle, and Terry, the roller-skating, drug-taking mincer played by Nick Swardson.

ABC News -- "Disney prince" (gag!) puff-piece mincer played by Gio Benitez.

by Anonymousreply 17707/03/2016

2 of those shows are no longer on the air R177. This is for current TV shows. The other is news and obviously doesn't count.

by Anonymousreply 18007/03/2016

This is a pretty good way to keep up with shows and gay characters

by Anonymousreply 18107/03/2016

I'm gonna post some storylines from Youtube for my American friends if you wanna watch. British tv shows are very very good with their gay storylines.

by Anonymousreply 18207/03/2016

Aaron & Robert

by Anonymousreply 18307/03/2016

by Anonymousreply 18407/03/2016

Johnny & Steven

by Anonymousreply 18507/03/2016

Todd & Billy (Coronation Street)

by Anonymousreply 18607/03/2016

This is for the older gays: Lawrence and Ronnie (Emmerdale)

by Anonymousreply 18707/03/2016

I'm sorry, I probably should have mentioned the shows too.

Aaron & Robert (Emmerdale)

Ste & Harry (Hollyoaks)

Johnny & Steven (EastEnders)

by Anonymousreply 19107/03/2016

^^Sorry, that was meant for R178.

by Anonymousreply 19207/03/2016

Um maybe because this thread started in 2013?

by Anonymousreply 19307/03/2016

The Match Game

by Anonymousreply 19407/03/2016

I've said it before but I'll say it again, British tv shows are miles ahead of American tv shows when it comes to gay characters. There are so many gay characters on British soaps that it's hard to keep track. There are Lawrence, Ronnie, Finn, Aaron and Robert on Emmerdale. Then there are Sean, Todd and Billy on Coronation Street. Hollyoaks has John Paul, James, Ste, Harry and probably more too. Holby City has Dominic and Isaac. EastEnders has Johnny, Steven, Ben and Paul.

by Anonymousreply 19507/06/2016

Not much on now during the summer, but Animal Kingdom is good and Dead of Summer starts next week. Looking (the movie) will air late July. Hit the Floor special will air later this summer. The Nigh Shift has a gay character too and can be seen on NBC. Hopefully Luke Macfarlane will reprise his role as Drew's boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 19607/06/2016

But the British characters are mostly so effeminate, weird, or unattractive

by Anonymousreply 19707/06/2016

Brit gay characters rarely are hot masculine hunks

by Anonymousreply 19807/06/2016

The Brit show Cuffs (lasted only one season) has masculine looking gay guys. But I guess that's why it only lasted one season. Not stereo typically gay enough.

by Anonymousreply 19907/06/2016

Todd and Billy are finally getting together on Coronation Street.

by Anonymousreply 20007/07/2016

The Jim Gaffigan Show

by Anonymousreply 20107/07/2016

I think Aaron on Emmerdale is hot and masculine.

by Anonymousreply 20207/07/2016

Both Aaron and Robert are masculine. Quantico, The 100 and Days should be extremely ashamed of what they have done to their gay characters.

by Anonymousreply 20307/07/2016

Call the Midwife has a lesbian couple.

by Anonymousreply 20407/07/2016

R203, I called it with The 100. They only allow lesbians to kiss and have sex on The CW. The gay (male) characters are neutered, as always. They have only kissed once, it's pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 20507/07/2016

I watch the British version of "Call the Midwife' because PBS in America cuts scenes with the lesbian couple.

by Anonymousreply 20607/07/2016

I think there have only ever been 2 gay male kisses on the CW the one you mention r205 and the the one on the Originals and not too long after the kiss on the Originals was one of the gay characters killed and the other one eventually neutered and now barely appears. Your right lesbians can kiss up a storm on that network because that's ok to them and when you hear about a gay character on the CW it's usually a lesbian character.

by Anonymousreply 20707/07/2016

R207, like I said only lesbians are allowed to have sex. Gay male characters do get to kiss, although barely. Bryan and Miller have after one season had ONE lame ass kiss. You can bet your ass had these been lesbians they would have been making out in every episode and had at least one or two sex scenes by now.

by Anonymousreply 20807/07/2016

It seems that now when a show announces an lgbt character it's either a lesbian or trans character. That show Faking It had a gay male character get with transman and then shames the gay male character into being with the trans character. When gay male characters are killed they don't get the same kind of coverage and outrage as lesbians and trans characters and if a show were to even harm a single hair on a lesbian or trans character's head then there is all kinds of outrage.

by Anonymousreply 20907/07/2016

Todd and Billy finally kissed on Coronation Street.

by Anonymousreply 21007/08/2016

R209, I completely agree with everything you said. It's funny that there was such an outrage when three lesbian characters were killed when lesbian characters outnumber gay male characters 10:1. They could kill half of all the lesbian characters on tv and there'd STILL be more lesbian characters on tv. Not only that, lesbian characters are not neutered. They get much better representation than gay male characters. That's why I can't take the lesbians seriously when they complain. They have no idea how good they have it. I've seen shows where there are lesbian characters and gay male characters on the same show, the lesbians get to make out and have sex, the gay male characters are neutered and barely get any screen time. But it's like whatever. I'm used to it. It sucks but I don't see it changing any time soon.

by Anonymousreply 21107/08/2016

The gay kiss on Coronation Street if anyone wanna watch.

by Anonymousreply 21207/08/2016

Love Daniel Brocklebank

by Anonymousreply 21307/08/2016

Me too, R213.

by Anonymousreply 21407/09/2016

No but seriously, Corrie has been very good lately. I recommend checking it out. You can start here.

by Anonymousreply 21507/11/2016

This is on it's way

by Anonymousreply 21607/15/2016

Thanks, R216. Once again we need to watch British shows to get good gay characters. The UK has always been miles ahead of the US with gays on tv. I mean, there are some exceptions, but I'd say 9 out of 10 times gay characters in the US are portrayed really horrible, always being neutered and barely getting any screen time.

by Anonymousreply 21707/15/2016

Hope they cast some hot masculine dudes. Dont bother otherwise

by Anonymousreply 21807/15/2016

Animal Kingdom is very good. I wouldn't bother with Dead of Summer, the only gay guy doesn't have a love interest.

by Anonymousreply 21907/16/2016

Mac FINALLY came out on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

by Anonymousreply 22007/16/2016

r220 and then he got back into the closet when his faith was restored.

by Anonymousreply 22107/16/2016

An actor who plays a masculine gay character on a European soap.

by Anonymousreply 22207/16/2016

And what actor/show/character is that R222?

by Anonymousreply 22307/16/2016

r223 that's Ronny who's an actor on a European soap called Secret Lives

by Anonymousreply 22407/16/2016

Okay that's a good masculine guy

by Anonymousreply 22507/17/2016

We've lost so many gay characters this year :( Shane on Faking It, Will on Nashville etc.

by Anonymousreply 22607/17/2016

Wait, I haven't kept up with Nashville. What happened to Will R226?

by Anonymousreply 22707/17/2016

I assume R226 meant that Nashville was cancelled. It was picked up by another network, though.

by Anonymousreply 22807/17/2016

Ok good. Yeah it was picked up by CMT.

by Anonymousreply 22907/17/2016

Too bad the rest of it is an unwatchable shitshow, R169.

by Anonymousreply 23007/17/2016

r227 At the moment, he's back with Kyle Dean Massey's character. At. The. Moment.

by Anonymousreply 23107/17/2016

We did lose a Will named Will Horton but Will Lexington will be back on a new network.

by Anonymousreply 23207/17/2016

R232, honestly if it never came back I would be ok with it. The writing for Will as been very poor. I have never seen a more miserable gay character. I understand that Nashville is a conservative, possibly homophobic city. But dear god why did they always have to write Will being sad or depressed. He never got "happy" storylines. Either he was trying to kill himself, or he was the victim of a gay bashing, or song-writers refused to work with him because he was gay and the list goes on and on and on. I just couldn't watch it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 23307/19/2016

I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but I think it's worth mentioning again. Anthony D Langford is back with his soaps column, now on TVSource Magazine's website. I'll link his latest post.

by Anonymousreply 23407/19/2016

We're now down two gay characters thanks to EastEnders and Mr Robot.

by Anonymousreply 23507/23/2016

So far I'm really liking Dom & Isaac.

by Anonymousreply 23607/25/2016

Tyrant had a gay sex scene.

by Anonymousreply 23707/28/2016

Is that a new scene on Tyrant?

by Anonymousreply 23807/29/2016

Yes, R238, from the new episode.

by Anonymousreply 23907/29/2016

Got a link to that scene?

by Anonymousreply 24007/29/2016

Sorry, it's not up on Youtube. Guess you just have to watch the new episode.

by Anonymousreply 24107/29/2016

Spanish tv show from Spain called Merli has gay characters.

by Anonymousreply 24208/05/2016

New gay character coming to The Originals.

by Anonymousreply 24308/11/2016

Gay or lesbian?

by Anonymousreply 24408/11/2016

R244, probably lesbian. They don't allow gay male characters on comic book tv shows.

by Anonymousreply 24508/11/2016

r244, my money is on Cisco from The Flash. I never believed his crush on Golden Glider. He might even hook up with his frenemy Hartley Rathaway.

by Anonymousreply 24608/11/2016

The Flash is a good possiblity, because they feature different timelines, worlds, and stuff. It may very well be that in some alternate universe or timeline one of the main characters is gay or willing to explore his gay sexuality or bisexuality.

by Anonymousreply 24708/11/2016

R245, isn't The Pied Piper and his police chief bf recurring characters on The Flash?

by Anonymousreply 24808/11/2016
What are the current TV shows with gay characters?

The Olympics

by Anonymousreply 24908/11/2016

Sammy, the teenage son on "Tyrant"

by Anonymousreply 25008/11/2016

You are living in a dream world r246. Cisco is the most popular character on "The Flash", all the fanboys love them, they aren't going to make him gay.

I could almost see it being Captain Cold, just because Wentworth has been so vocal that he sees the character as pansexual.

Arrow already has a prominent gay character in Mr. Terrific, so won't be them.

Maybe someone from "Supergirl". I don't watch this show but isn't there some character all the fans said seemed gay?

by Anonymousreply 25108/11/2016

Supergirl is bringing on lesbian cop Maggie Sawyer.

by Anonymousreply 25208/11/2016

The CW Seed is bringing the first gay superhero series, The Ray

by Anonymousreply 25308/11/2016

by Anonymousreply 25408/12/2016

One that just ended in Australia was the four episode series on ATV called "Barracuda" based on the Christos Tsiolkas novel.

The first three episodes have been put up on youtube. I expect the person to eventually add the fourth. If not, you can find them on Vodlocker as well.

by Anonymousreply 25508/13/2016

R252, TOLD YA! I said it would be a lesbian and I was right. DC is still TERRIFIED of portraying gay men on any of their shows.

by Anonymousreply 25608/13/2016

In other news, CBS has a diversity problem..

by Anonymousreply 25708/13/2016

R255 Some of the gay bits from Barracuda, rather apropos due to the Olympics right now.

by Anonymousreply 25808/17/2016

Big Brother 18 has all of the hot guys being homoerotic, rubbing on each other, sleeping together, talking about gay porn, and the girls are just scratching their heads wondering, WTF?

by Anonymousreply 25908/17/2016

Is Mark Indelicato even getting his own episode centric storyline in Dead of Summer?

by Anonymousreply 26008/18/2016

The Duke of Sandringham on Outlander but he had his head chopped off in Season 2.

by Anonymousreply 26108/18/2016

James and John Paul from Hollyoaks.

by Anonymousreply 26208/18/2016

Regarding Shadowhunters ... The "Malec" kiss looks hot. .. Is the show any good?

by Anonymousreply 26308/19/2016

Bruno and Pol from Merli

by Anonymousreply 26408/19/2016

It gets good towards the middle of the season and the last few episodes were great IMO R263

I personally recommend it but it's probably not for everyone.

by Anonymousreply 26508/19/2016

I was watcging 3rd episode 1st season of Mr Robot I thought someone put in QAF by mistake

by Anonymousreply 26608/19/2016

Jude and Noah

by Anonymousreply 26708/22/2016

That's gay equality according to possible future cult leader FCF r261.

by Anonymousreply 26808/22/2016

R268 FCF would love Hollyoaks. There have been so many gay and bisexual guys, that it's fully anticipated that one of them will die almost every year. Innocent Kieron was murdered by Niall as part of his revenge plan against the McQueen family. (Kieron was John Paul McQueen's lover.) Presumably sexflexible Walker was run over by a train during a fight with Brendan. Brendan, who murdered others himself, was gunned down by the police and almost died, but then he was sent to prison for life. Doug was killed after a bomb exploded. Danny was the victim in a not-so-random car accident. Lockie was murdered by his own brother, then dumped in a lake. Equal opportunity death is pretty much status quo ,,, lol!

by Anonymousreply 26908/23/2016

Not a current show but one starting on the USA Network in October; saw the trailer for a show called Eyewitness during tonight's Mr Robot.

What caught me is that in the first seconds it shows two teenage boys kissing and sneaking into a shed at night to have sex. Then they witness a murder and get attacked. The rest of the series seems to be focused on the female cop who is investigating this killing in a rural town. The scene with the boys reminded me of the movie "Dream Boy".

by Anonymousreply 27008/24/2016

Not seeing anything gay in this trailer. Guess there must be an uncut version somewhere R270

by Anonymousreply 27108/24/2016

R271 The trailer at Entertainment Weekly (below) has the gay bits.

This appears to be an adaptation of the 2014 Norwegian miniseries, Øyevitne (Eyewitness). I've seen that recommended (with English captions) on youtube. Might be worth a look-see as well.

by Anonymousreply 27208/24/2016

Yeah, Øyevitne is the Norwegian miniseries of Eyewitness (6 parts). The boys are known as Philip & Henning. You can watch it with English subtitles at the following youtube channel. (Ignore the note about Swedish, the subtitles are English). To turn the English on, just hit the "CC" button on the bar below the video.

by Anonymousreply 27308/24/2016

The LPGA Open

by Anonymousreply 27408/25/2016

Well, Dead of Summer was a total waste of time in regards of the gay character. No episode centric episode (there could have been potential for one featuring his kick-ass abuelita who taught him how to contact the dead).

by Anonymousreply 27508/29/2016

Can't say I'm surprised R275

by Anonymousreply 27608/29/2016

SC4 at the BBC has the soap from Wales (with English subs), Pobol y Cwm featuring Iolo & Tyler. They're currently planning their wedding.

by Anonymousreply 27708/30/2016

New gay character on Outlander.

by Anonymousreply 27808/30/2016

The Rachel Maddow Show

by Anonymousreply 27908/30/2016

This is cute. It's from Corrie.

by Anonymousreply 28008/30/2016

For UK DLs, the original Norwegian version of Eyewitness will be shown on All 4 this autumn as part of Walter Presents (not sure if All 4 can be accessed outside UK)

by Anonymousreply 28109/01/2016
New gay character on Outlander.

Tyler Perry's Too Close To Home.

by Anonymousreply 28309/03/2016

Merli was given a second season that will appear later on this year.

by Anonymousreply 28409/06/2016

The collection: Period fashion drama set in post world war 2 Paris starring Tom Riely as bisexual designer Claude Sabine

by Anonymousreply 28509/06/2016

r285. Thank you for the suggestion. It looks interesting.

by Anonymousreply 28609/08/2016

Not sure if the character is indeed gay, but there is a character in Cinemax's Original Series Quarry that comes off as a bit on the gay side (in the trailer it's the guy who hammers the nails in the baseball bat, played by Damon Herriman). Plus in the pilot the lead, Logan Marshall-Green, has a brief full frontal nude shot when he jumps in a pool.

by Anonymousreply 28709/10/2016

Apparently there's an Amazon/BBC series called The Collection with a gay character played by Tom Riley. Haven't seen it myself

by Anonymousreply 28809/10/2016

r288 see r285.

by Anonymousreply 28909/10/2016

I would but he's on my ignore list R289

by Anonymousreply 29009/10/2016

I think R287 may be right about Quarry. Last episode, the character you mentioned (his name is Buddy on IMDB) seemed to be make subtle moves on the lead character. Later, Buddy had a meeting with a gun dealer where the dealer showed him a gun with a pink handle, as a special extra deal. When Buddy asked "why do you think I'd like this?", the dealer said, "well, cause you're queer, aren't you?". Buddy got an annoyed look on his face but he didn't correct the dealer. Buddy did kill him later, though, with extreme prejudice.

by Anonymousreply 29109/20/2016

So Todd and Billy broke up on yesterday's Corrie, but Bruno Langley (Todd) gave a fantastic performance. It's well worth the watch imo.

by Anonymousreply 29209/20/2016

I think the character of "Malcolm Levitan" known as "Lev" is still recurring in AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire." Actor August Emerson.

by Anonymousreply 29309/20/2016

Possible gay on Mr Robot. Cute Swedish psychopath Tyrell Wellick said that he loves the lead character Elliot. We won't see how he shows this love until next year as tonight was the season finale.

by Anonymousreply 29409/21/2016

That character on Quarry (BUDDY) is showing more signs that he is a gay man - last night he was shown sitting in a gay bar. A couple of guys come in and he runs over and starts yelling at one about "where were you?" and bad-mouthing the guy he is with. Looked like a case of jealousy at his "friend" being with a new man.

by Anonymousreply 29509/25/2016

Impastor (one actual gay, one pretend gay) is coming back this week on TVLand.
Maybe someone from "Supergirl". I don't watch this show but isn't there some character all the fans said seemed gay?

If I'm not mistaken, I think Jeremy Jordan said in an interview that he feels his character should be gay, so perhaps the producers/writers have decided to indulge his suggestion?

by Anonymousreply 29709/25/2016

I have not read this entire thread but did anyone mention Andre Braugher's Captain Holt character on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"? He also has a white husband on the show.

by Anonymousreply 29809/25/2016

Haven't seen it myself since it's a Canadian show an not sure it's available outside of Canada, but Kristopher Turner plays the gay brother of the main character on the show "This Life"

by Anonymousreply 29909/27/2016

R296, thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for its return.

Nickelodeon's "The Loud House" has the recurring Harold & Howard McBride. They're Clyde McBride's overprotective fathers. Clyde is the best friend of Lincoln Loud, the main character of the animated series. Harold and Howard are voiced by Wayne Brady and Michael McDonald.

by Anonymousreply 30209/28/2016

Holby City has been mentioned and here's a pic of Isaac and Dom. I haven't watched last night's episode, but the week before they decided to move in together.

by Anonymousreply 30309/28/2016

I'm ambivalent about Supernatural but the other week God came out as bisexual. They've also had a married gay hunter couple who survived the episode and, who knows, might be back next season as they were very well received

by Anonymousreply 30409/28/2016

R301 Do you understand what "current" means?

by Anonymousreply 30509/28/2016

Jennifer Lopez's show "Shades of Blue". I stopped on it one night just to see her "acting". There was Ray Liotta menacing this cute guy, then my jaw dropped when Ray grabbed the guy and started kissing him, so I assume that RL is gay/bi. Don't ask me more, cause I turned it at the next commercial.

by Anonymousreply 30609/28/2016

Conviction is a new show with gay chracaters. I love the fact that they are latinos too. So sick of only white gay men on tv.

The Vice Presidential Debate.

Don't know if you care about foreign shows but there is a Norwegian show with a gay character. He was caught checking out a guy in the last episode.

Well this sounds interesting.

by Anonymousreply 31710/09/2016

Can you imagine how short this thread would've been 15 years ago? 20? 30?

by Anonymousreply 31810/09/2016

Well, R318, we still have a long long loooong way to go with gay male characters. Sure, we have more than 15 or 20 years ago, but they are still neutered and many barely get any screen time. It seems most gay characters are only acceptable if they are sexless so they don't offend anyone (aka Modern Family). Sure there are exceptions, don't get me wrong, but I can count the gay characters who actually get to have a love life on one hand. Not exactly much to brag about in 2016. It's the opposite for the lesbian characters, they get to have an active sex life, and there are lesbian characters on most tv shows these days.

by Anonymousreply 31910/10/2016

Do you guys care about foreign tv shows too? If so here is a gay storyline from Catalonia (Spain), the characters are Bruno and Pol. The storyline is posted with English subs.

by Anonymousreply 32010/10/2016

And here is a gay storyline from Norway with the characters Isak and Even. This is also with English subtitles.

by Anonymousreply 32110/10/2016

Don't forget that they are also killed off r319.

by Anonymousreply 32310/11/2016

I'm having one of my sick headaches.

by Anonymousreply 32410/11/2016

Wth happened to Shameless?! Why is gay Ian now sleeping with a woman?

by Anonymousreply 32510/12/2016

R325 His boyfriend was sleeping with his ex who was a woman. This made Ian very upset and was basically told to experiment with a woman, so he picked some random woman. He later regretted it and hated the experience, though he confirmed that he is 100% gay.

by Anonymousreply 32610/12/2016

Still though, R326, was this storyline really necessary?! I found it deeply offensive and borderline homophobic. Can't gay characters just stay gay? It just perpetuates the myth that gay men haven't found the right woman yet. It fuels the ignorance and hate. I'm sick of it. First Empire and now Shameless. If Shamelss gets cancelled it will be a good thing. I refuse to watch a show that has a gay character sleep with a woman.

by Anonymousreply 32710/13/2016

Thank god, I I stopped watching this show since season 4.

by Anonymousreply 32810/13/2016

Could be worse. In the UK version they ended up turning Ian straight.

by Anonymousreply 32910/13/2016

The new ABC series "Conviction" seems to be implying that the Hispanic guy on the team is gay. In the first episode, he visits a convict in prison (he himself was a former prisoner) and they surreptitiously grasp hands under the table.

And the lead character's brother is played by "Looking" alum and openly gay Daniel Franzese. It's not clear yet whether his character is gay or not.

Not a character, but fellow "Looking" alum and openly gay Murray Bartlett was in the first episode.

by Anonymousreply 33010/13/2016

Confirmation for the show Quarry -- the character Buddy is indeed gay. He was shown dancing with a guy in a gay bar, then grabbing another guy. He kisses this guy and yells "I loved you". Later he tells his mother that he's writing a proposal, and his mother asks 'to what boy?'.

by Anonymousreply 33110/16/2016
His boyfriend was sleeping with his ex who was a woman. This made Ian very upset and was basically told to experiment with a woman, so he picked some random woman. He later regretted it and hated the experience, though he confirmed that he is 100% gay.

What irks me, generally speaking (not just with Shameless), is that you don't see straight guys experimenting with guys. It's always gay characters who have to have the "have sex with someone with a gender you wouldn't normally do" storyline while straight guys don't have to sleep with a guy and go "ok, that was nice and all, but in the end I prefer pussy or fall in love with one who happens to have a pussy!". It's like once a character made out with a guy he's tainted or something and can't no longer be taken serious as a straight guy. I believe it would take away a lot of fear about homosexuality / bisexuality when characters could just experiment without it being this great big fucking deal and feeling forced about it just being learning experience framed as a fling.

I mean women had their "I Kissed A Girl (And I Liked It)" why can't guys have the same?

by Anonymousreply 33210/16/2016

So far, I haven't noticed any gay characters or content on the new hit series "This Is Us" (the one with Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, and Mandy Moore.)

by Anonymousreply 33310/16/2016

by Anonymousreply 33410/17/2016

Quarry is a new series on Cinemax,; it's aired about 7-8 episodes so far. It stars Logan Marshall-Green, the actor who resembles Tom Hardy. You could have Googled it yourself if you wanted info...

by Anonymousreply 33810/17/2016

That gay storyline from Norway turned out to be a bust. I mean the main character is still gay, but the guy everyone assumed would be his love interest turned out to be straight. He was so hot too! It's so typical.

by Anonymousreply 34510/21/2016

I don't know if it counts, but on the new show Notorious a male character was revealed to be in love with another male character and then the first character killed himself. It happens in episode four.

by Anonymousreply 34610/21/2016

Just saw the first two episodes of the Doctor Who spin-off Class and that may be a bit off topic, but I am surprised how bloody it is. I expected some cheery family friendly kids show like the Sarah Jane Adventures, but it's a bit closer to UK's Skins or Misfits (hell, even closer to MTV's Teen Wolf) but with Aliens and teens and adults getting brutally murdered. I don't know if it's a spoiler, since it's featured in the trailer, but the male lead is an alien who goes to the prom with a guy. In the second episode you get a nice ass shot from a hot guy playing the coach.

by Anonymousreply 34710/22/2016

So one of the actors playing a gay character on that Doctor Who spinoff just got married. Really wish we had more gay actors playing gay characters but oh well.

by Anonymousreply 34810/22/2016

r348, that's the guy who's playing the Alien.

by Anonymousreply 34910/22/2016

I think the human gay guy is just a regular guest character. Allthough he is in on the secret mission of the show's scooby gang.

Funny lines (SPOILER, obviously):

Go away, we're DECORATING!

I caught my husband fiddling himself on the stairs!

Girl: Anyway ... about the prom ... I was thinking that maybe you and I could ... you know? / Guy, with a big smile on his face: Oh! No, I shouldn't think so.

You watch the Vampie Diaries? / Everyone is very attractive / Yes, it's true.

by Anonymousreply 35010/23/2016

Forgot the best one:

Look at you all, the cream of the crop, high achievers, no wonder this country only exports Downton Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 35110/23/2016

Regarding Class.

There's a missing kid called Kevin Williams. There's a Falcon Studio exclusive porn star from the 80s / 90s with the same name.

Ms. Quill is a Datalounger, for sure.

There's another funny line (It's probably hard to understand with the foreign accent).

Charlie: Everything alright?

Matteusz being sarcastic: Oh, yeah. My deeply religious parents are very happy that I'm going to dance with a boy. This has been an evening of love and warmth.

Charlie, smiling (not getting the sarcasm): Great!

by Anonymousreply 35210/23/2016

No we were told the gay character in Class is one of the lead roles and so a permanent member of the gang. The head writer, Patrick Ness who is gay himself, feels strongly about character diversity and looks to be putting it into action. Unlike some gay show creators I could mention. He has previously written very well thought of books for Young Adults featuring gay characters in lead roles. He's a good choice from the Beeb.

by Anonymousreply 35310/23/2016
No we were told the gay character in Class is one of the lead roles and so a permanent member of the gang.

The lead is the alien (in the first episode there's a brief glimpse of what he really looks like). The human gay guy is not featured in the group shot(s) promoting the show. However according to imdb he is supposed to be in all eight episodes of season/series (cause it's British!) 1. However I couldn't see him in episode two, that's why I assumed he's just a regular guest character.

by Anonymousreply 35710/25/2016

R344 R345 .. I'm really looking forward to "Man In An Orange Shirt" as well .. especially since Julian Morris will be in it. ;-)

The only bummer is that it was originally scheduled to be on BBC2, so they were going to be more graphic with the language and sex. .. Now, that it's been shifted to BBC1, they've been asked to tone it down on those fronts. Boo hiss.

"Silk" isn't a recent show but it has a prominent storyline with an underage gay rent-boy. British show about barrister and the bar starring Maxine Peak.

Wow, they not only use ugly actors for the gay men but make out them out to be such shameful sociopaths; yes, sex with a minor is shameful but the show paints us all to be profligates that love underage and public sex. Ludicrous! And the 16-year old "gay" rent boy? The only "gay" character that elicits some sympathy and seems like an actual human being despite his profession? Turns out he's not gay but bisexual/straight since in the season finale he has a girlfriend who is pregnant with his child. FFS. Albeit, this premiered in 2011.

On Welsh soap "Rownd a Rownd" (Round and Round) the openly gay mechanic, Rhys, has had his gaydar tracking the supposedly-straight David for awhile now. David's an uptight financial advisor. But last week, David momentarily let his guard down and was actually smiling and enjoying himself when he and Rhys shared an impromptu drink. However. David quickly caught himself and ran off. The scene starts at the 14:50 mark, with a second part a little after 16:00.

Other than Orange is the New Black I can't think of a single show you could be talking about? Care to list a few? I think this old trope needs to die.

by Anonymousreply 36810/28/2016

R368, go to AfterEllen, they have recaps of most tv shows. Just those I can remember right now: Wentworth, Chicago Fire, OITNB, Gotham, OUAT, The Fosters, Person of Interest, General Hospital, Grey's Anatomy, Game of Thrones, Black Sails, Last Tango in Halifax, At Home with the Braithwaites, Pretty Little Liars, Lost Girl, Orphan Black, Rookie Blue, Transparent, Portlandia, The 100.

The lesbians on those shows get to actually have a love life, unlike their gay male counterparts.

by Anonymousreply 36910/28/2016

They finally kissed!

by Anonymousreply 37010/28/2016

I don't see a lot of great lesbian portrayals either

by Anonymousreply 37110/28/2016

Unfortunately Shameless doesn't count anymore since the character was mythologically ex-gayed via some tranny.

by Anonymousreply 37210/28/2016

Shut up R372

by Anonymousreply 37310/28/2016

What does that even MEAN, R372? Which character?

by Anonymousreply 37510/28/2016

Cold Feet in the UK has just brought in a gay son, a reveal being he'd been sleeping with the nanny's boyfriend. The current series has just ended but it's been renewed. The focus of the show is on the adults so it won't be a major role.

There are more LGBT characters on TV than *ever*!! Still seems pretty meagre to me, I dunno about you. Also, who're/ is the queer character/s on Designated survivor? Is it really worth watching that shit show?

by Anonymousreply 40811/09/2016

When gay male characters are killed off as had happen between last year and this year GLAAD seem be suspiciously silent on that front but when something happens to a lesbian or trans character GLAAD then wants to make noise.

by Anonymousreply 40911/09/2016

My new FCC will make sure this stops.

by Anonymousreply 41011/09/2016

Notorious introduced a(nother) gay character who might be a regular and in the same episode (episode 8) the story features roommates who get caught making out with each other (brief moment of two guys kissing and making out with another girl on a bed). One of the roomates is played by Chris Brochu who played token gay character Luke Parker on The Vampire Diaries.

by Anonymousreply 41111/12/2016

In the latest Notorious episode Doug Savant, who played Matt Fielding on Melrose Place, makes a guest appearance. The whole roommate murder mystery throughout the episode has a little bit of a MP callback feeling to it. Or maybe I'm just seeing things?

by Anonymousreply 41211/12/2016

R409, the LGBT community hate gay men now. They bend over to lesbians and trans women. GLAAD is no different. They never comment on the abysmal portrayal of gay men on tv. Sure, there might be more gay male characters than lesbian, but what is the point when they are just barely there and chaste? The lesbian characters are front and center, they get to have a love life, unlike most gay male characters. But of course GLAAD never comment on this fact, only on lesbian and trans. They are all that matter now. Gay men are all but forgotten about. I guess they view gay men as "priviliged" even though gay men are still disriminated against (even more so than lesbians), as evident both in socieity and as characters on tv. Gay men have it worse than lesbians, that is a fact.

by Anonymousreply 41311/12/2016

Oh, and btw.. that GLAAD report is so flawed it makes my head spin. There are lesbian characters on so many tv shows: The Fosters, Pretty Little Liars, Younger, General Hospital, Person of Interest, HTGAWM, OUaT, Arrow, The Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Sails, Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries, Quantico, Transparent, Boardwalk Empire, House of Cards, Wentworth, Orange is the New Black, The 100, Jane the Virgin, Gotham, Chicago Fire, Gotham.

Shows with gay (male) characters that get a love life and aren't token: Shameless, Empire, HTGAWM.

See a differene here?

by Anonymousreply 41411/12/2016
Shows with gay (male) characters that get a love life and aren't token: Shameless, Empire, HTGAWM.

Add "Sense8" and now the new show "Eyewitness".

But yes, I would say that is basically it for main gay male characters that have active love lives on current TV.

by Anonymousreply 41511/12/2016

R409, when two straight characters faked being gay on Quantico and Scream Queens.. what did GLAAD say? NOTHING. They didn't give a fuck. What did they do when gay characters had sex with women on Empire and Shameless? Absolutely nothing. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there have been gay male characters killed off too, not just lesbians. But they are mostly token (as all gay male characters on tv are), so they never get a mention. I'm sick of the hycpcrisy.

by Anonymousreply 41611/12/2016
Inclusive series debuting this season include American Housewife, Conviction, Designated Survivor, Bull, Riverdale, The Exorcist and Midnight, Texas—though shows like Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars and Orphan Black are all heading into their final seasons.

WTF is this shit?! Conviction showed two male characters holding hands ONCE. And since then NOTHING. Riverdale?! The gay guy on that show is just recurring. He is not part of the main cast and he isn't in any of the promos. Teen Wolf? That show has a token gay basically, nothing to brag about. Orphan Black? Only the lesbian characters there got a love life. The token gay character never got a boyfriend, as usual.

by Anonymousreply 41711/12/2016

Oh, and one more thing then I'll shut up. I have already spammed this thread enough. If you want good gay representation, American tv isn't it. I mean, there are always exceptions, but mostly gays on American tv are token and chaste. I'd say British tv is much better. Please check out shows like Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, Holby City and Hollyoaks. There is also that Welsih show Pobol y Cwm. The rest of the world: Merli (Catalan), Salatut Elämät (Finnish), Skam (Norwegian), Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (Dutch), Neighbours (Australian), Please Like Me (Australian), A Place To Call Home (Australian), Shortland Street (New Zealand).

by Anonymousreply 41811/12/2016

BBC's Class has a gay lead in a romantic relationship as well.

There are more gay characters in leading roles than ever before. 2016 sucks in many ways, but not in this regard.

by Anonymousreply 41911/12/2016

R419, you're right. I forgot about Class. I disagree with you about the rest though. If I can count the shows with gay characters (that aren't token and chaste) on one hand, then yes, I stand by what I said, we haven't come far enough. Lesbian characters always get a love life, gay (male) characters never do. At least not on American tv. This is usually much better on British tv and other shows from around the world.

by Anonymousreply 42011/12/2016

What's with all the miserable gays on tv lately? I thought Nashville with Will Lexington was bad enough. I had to stop watching because I couldn't take his self pity anymore. He was just so sad and depressed all the time. Now it's the same thing on Skam. The gay character is sad and lonely, has nobody to talk to and is now gonna start taking sleeping pills. I'm just sick of gay characters always being portrayed in a negative way. I want happy, successful gay characters in loving relationships. Is that too much to ask?

by Anonymousreply 42111/17/2016

r421. Apparently the general public wants shows where characters have to deal with all sorts of issues. It's just not gay characters who go from one drama moment to the next.

by Anonymousreply 42211/18/2016

Isak finally came out on SKAM.

by Anonymousreply 42311/18/2016

What happened to that Hart to Hart gay version?

by Anonymousreply 42411/18/2016

Empire has the most impactful gay/bi male character on tv now. He is black, masculine, urban, in hip hop, and tough. And he's hot!

by Anonymousreply 42511/18/2016

You talking about the guy who slept with a woman last season, R425?

by Anonymousreply 42611/18/2016

Season 2 of Shadowhunters is starting early next year. Obvious drama between Alec and Magnus

by Anonymousreply 42711/18/2016

R426, yes and that's true to life too

by Anonymousreply 42811/18/2016

Everyone's hoping that the 'lesser' gay in Emmerdale, Finn Barton, will finally be getting a story with the guy he rescued in the car crash named "Kasim." .. It's been a few weeks now, and Kasim is still unconscious in the hospital, with Finn developing something of a crush-obsession on the man who's life he saved. And so far, no one else has come forward to take control of Kasim's care or visit him.

by Anonymousreply 42911/20/2016

Bruno and Pol on Merli recently had an episode dealing with queer theory and transgenders

by Anonymousreply 43011/23/2016

Isak came out to his other friends after coming out to Jonas (his bff). It went very well. I laughed when they started to discuss bisexuality vs pansexuality, and then Isak's "maybe I'm a little bit gay" comment, lol. And then his sassy comment at the end, loved it.

by Anonymousreply 43111/25/2016
WTF is this shit?! Conviction showed two male characters holding hands ONCE. And since then NOTHING.

I know. Someone asked the other day on the Conviction thread how the gay male storyline was going, and I could not even remember one at first.

by Anonymousreply 43211/25/2016

Empire's Jamal is by far the most prominent, popular, central, and impactful LGBT character on tv Today.

by Anonymousreply 43311/25/2016

Isak and Even just had sex on Skam.

by Anonymousreply 43411/25/2016

by Anonymousreply 43511/25/2016

I know it was mentioned already but in addition to the new BBC show Class having two gay characters, it's also already featured male nudity (no full frontal of course, but a nice ass shot in the second episode of a hunky soccer coach; third episode featured the two gay teens undressing and making out in bed)

by Anonymousreply 43611/25/2016
it's also already featured male nudity (no full frontal of course, but a nice ass shot

Then just say "ass nudity."

by Anonymousreply 43711/25/2016

Here is the sex scene on Skam, short but sweet.

by Anonymousreply 43811/25/2016

Modus; latest Scandi-crime thrller on BBC4. Has a gay couple. First episode tonight. Don't know how much they'll feature but they have kissed and embraced.

by Anonymousreply 43911/26/2016

Reading that article R439, who exactly is the gay couple on that show?

by Anonymousreply 44011/26/2016

R440 I'm not R439, but this article explains the set up.

by Anonymousreply 44111/26/2016

Thanks for that R441.

by Anonymousreply 44211/26/2016

TBS' "Search Party" has two gay characters: Elliott (John Early) and his on-again/off-again long suffering "boyfriend" Marc played by Jeffery Self (whose RL boyfriend stars on CBS' "Pure Genius") . Elliott and Marc don't share a lot of screentime together but it's fun when they do. In one scene Elliott balks at Marc referring to himself as Elliott's boyfriend and says, "I swallow your cum". Which is ballsy for TBS.

by Anonymousreply 44311/26/2016

Cannot stand Jeffery Self

by Anonymousreply 44411/26/2016

R444 Does that make you a Self-loather?

by Anonymousreply 44511/26/2016

I hate you for making me laugh at that, r445.

by Anonymousreply 44611/26/2016

R443, which one is Jeffery's boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 44711/26/2016

The lead Augustus Prew.

by Anonymousreply 44811/26/2016

Thanks, R448.

I thought he was gay. But I only watched for ten minutes. The show was dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 44911/26/2016

On People of Earth a bearish looking guy came out as not just being abducted by Aliens, but that he also came out to his son as gay before that. The character is called Ennis btw. (as in Ennis Del Mar? *lol*). The guy is played by Daniel Stewart Sherman (guy with the trucker hat).

by Anonymousreply 45011/29/2016

Here's the trailer for People of Earth. Ennis, the farmer guy who came out as gay, is more or less a glorified extra so far (episode 6) though and him being gay was more of an off hand remark. And you see him very briefly in the trailer, but the trailer helps to set up the show (as it supposed to do)

by Anonymousreply 45111/29/2016

there's a new season of Please like me, if anyone's a fan! I know I am.

by Anonymousreply 45211/29/2016

Is the Reid character on Criminal Minds asexual or gay? They've never been clear. Love the gal who plays Garcia. She and Reid would make a cute couple.

by Anonymousreply 45311/29/2016

Reid has had girlfriends-ish. Didn't he go skinny-dipping once in LA with a girl he knew who'd become a successful actress?

by Anonymousreply 45411/29/2016
On People of Earth a bearish looking guy came out as not just being abducted by Aliens, but that he also came out to his son as gay before that.

He wasn't gay until the aliens anally probed him.

by Anonymousreply 45511/29/2016

Anthony Rapp Cast As Gay Science Officer On New “Star Trek” Series

by Anonymousreply 45611/29/2016
Reid has had girlfriends-ish. Didn't he go skinny-dipping once in LA with a girl he knew who'd become a successful actress?

He had a girlfriend two seasons ago, but she was killed off IIRC. Former showrunner Jeff Davis said he wanted Reid to be bisexual but CBS shut that down.

by Anonymousreply 45711/29/2016

Pearl in "Steven Universe" has moved past the point where fans can make any more arguments up declaring that she isn't gay.

by Anonymousreply 45811/29/2016

The show's creator admitted that Pearl is a lesbian, along with Garnet R458

by Anonymousreply 45911/29/2016

Well, Garnet is the fusion of two gems in love

by Anonymousreply 46011/29/2016

The Real O'Neals

by Anonymousreply 46111/29/2016

As has been said before: nobody cares about lesbians. They get brilliant representation as it is. Gay male characters are treated horribly. This thread is important to see if there is any progress being made.

by Anonymousreply 46211/30/2016

WOULD SOMEBODY FUCKING ANSWER THIS QUESTION: What happened to the gay Hart to Hart pilot from 2 years ago????

by Anonymousreply 46312/01/2016

So.. it turns out Even is indeed bipolar and was having a manic episode, walking naked out into the Oslo streets. Poor Isak was so clueless about what was happening. This was Isak's face when Sonja (Even's ex) told him about Even being manic and that he was just another crazy idea and that Even never loved him.

by Anonymousreply 46412/04/2016

There hasn't been any news in over a year R463 so it's likely dead

by Anonymousreply 46512/04/2016

R466 Fixed your broken link

Neighbours David and Aaron Check out Aaron's bulge at :32

by Anonymousreply 46812/15/2016

R468 I wouldn't say the bulge is that impressive. He wore a yellow jumpsuit last year that showed a lot more.

David is a closeted midget. I wish he'd get over looking for his father and just fuck Aaron already. I guess we have to wait another four months.

by Anonymousreply 46912/15/2016

r469 Have you noticed that the main gay male characters on Neighbours have been white (like the rest of the cast), but their long term boyfriends are always men of color? The show hardly features men or women of other races, and the gay supporting character just so happens to fill that void. It's nice the show is including gay men of color, but it would be nice if Aaron dated a white guy just once before. I like him with David now though.

by Anonymousreply 47012/15/2016

There's something gay happening on TNT's "Good Behavior."

The guy getting fucked is "Kyle Dash" (played by Justin Breuning from All My Children). The scene is from the Dec. 13 episode.

Someone else will have to explain the set up.

by Anonymousreply 47112/16/2016
He had a girlfriend two seasons ago, but she was killed off IIRC. Former showrunner Jeff Davis said he wanted Reid to be bisexual but CBS shut that down.

That would makes perfect sense because his character has always seemed pansexual to me. Calling him bisexual seems....limiting.

by Anonymousreply 47212/16/2016

Damn, they actually showed that on TNT R471???

by Anonymousreply 47312/16/2016

R473 Yes. The show is rated TV-MA-LS (Mature). I don't get TNT, so can't explain anything. If you don't have access yourself, I found it on a youtube channel where they "minimize" the screen within the screen. The scene in question starts around the 32:00 minute mark.

by Anonymousreply 47412/16/2016

The quality of your provided clip is awful, R474. There are better ways of streaming content, you know. Let me help you out:

by Anonymousreply 47512/17/2016

It's the thrusting that was shocking on tv. They didn't show anything but one dude shirtless

by Anonymousreply 47612/17/2016

R470 something like this

by Anonymousreply 47712/17/2016

Well.. at least Isak and Even got their (somewhat) happy ending, but Isak talking about death and then saying he "doesn't know" if Even is the man of his life and they could "break up tomorrow" I was like... oh ok. That's.... nice.

by Anonymousreply 47812/17/2016

This sounds like a break up? Maybe they won't last that long?

by Anonymousreply 47912/17/2016

This was really sweet though. If you haven't watched this storyline, you should.

by Anonymousreply 48012/17/2016

This started today (17th Dec)

Does BBC3 counts as television as it's online only? At least a BBC3 showing often means a BBC1/BBC2 showing later on

by Anonymousreply 48112/17/2016

Once again a GAY (male) website is all about the lesbians. NewNowNext covers LGBT characters that have died this year, without mentioning several gay male characters that have died, like for example Mr Robot.

by Anonymousreply 48212/19/2016
It's the thrusting that was shocking on tv

Mr Robot was the first time I remember seeing "explicit" gay thrusting on basic cable.

by Anonymousreply 48312/19/2016

Good, I want to know about lesbian and bi female characters too

by Anonymousreply 48412/19/2016
Jack, a young boy who share a kiss with Jude on Freeform’s The Fosters before being murdered by his foster father.

Oh my GOD. Isn't this a show with pretty young audience? It seems kinda morbid. Especially for a young gay character.

by Anonymousreply 48512/19/2016

R484, I don't care about lesbians at all. They have brilliant representation as it is. Lesbian characters on tv are allowed to kiss and have sex, unlike most gay male characters. That's why I find it hypocritcal when they complain about lesbian characters dying, you could kill of half of all the lesbian characters on tv and they'd still get better representation than gay men.

by Anonymousreply 48612/19/2016

R486 it's more of a man-vs-woman issue. Women are accorded "sexual agency" and are free to explore their sexuality with both genders. Men are seen through a more binary lense and have less opportunity to explore their bisexuality lest their reputation takes a dive. Probably why we don't hear or see anything about lesbians being thrown off buildings for liking the same sex - they've all been men. For some reason, people think male sexuality is terrifying and must be controlled or decisively eradicated.

by Anonymousreply 48712/19/2016

The last episode of Arrow had some pretty nice scenes between Curtis and his husband Paul

by Anonymousreply 48812/19/2016

Finn just had sex with Kasim.

by Anonymousreply 49212/23/2016

by Anonymousreply 49312/25/2016

Father Marcus (Ben Daniels) in The Exorcist though it only really counts as current if they have a second series as the first is finished now (and the ratings weren't that good though I enjoyed it). Father Marcus was pretty kickass.

As a priest he should be celibate but it looked like that man in the bar was in with a chance before Marcus was so rudely interrupted. In the unlikely event the show is renewed, the producer hopes to follow both Father Marcus and the other exorcist priest further which could show more.

by Anonymousreply 49412/29/2016

And just found out that Ben Daniels is out himself

by Anonymousreply 49512/30/2016

r493, what is that from?

by Anonymousreply 49612/31/2016

R496, Salatut Elämät (Secret Lives). It's a Finnish soap. They already killed off a gay character though, Elias.

by Anonymousreply 49701/01/2017

OMG.. look what I found. He tried to kiss him!

by Anonymousreply 49801/01/2017

The Halcyon; just started this evening on ITV. Apparently Lady Hamilton's younger son.

by Anonymousreply 49901/02/2017

Chewing Gum; E4. Olisa Odele

Gay best friend.

Hasn't a sex life, yet. Programme's funny though

by Anonymousreply 50001/19/2017

Haven't seen it myself, but apparently the show Taboo has a gay character

by Anonymousreply 50101/23/2017

Ah, it must be the clerk bloke, r501 (at least I think he is a clerk, he takes notes during meetings). He was revealed in some sort of Molly House telling Tom that he'd loved him way back when. Tom then proceeded to blackmail him.

I think the only positively gay thing about Taboo (at least so far) is the way paid sex with boys is mentioned as casually as paid sex with girls. I know, I'm reaching here.

by Anonymousreply 50201/23/2017

This is coming later in the year on BBC2

by Anonymousreply 50302/08/2017

The show "Bull" on CBS has a gay male character

by Anonymousreply 50402/08/2017

R503, wasn't this already a show like 10 years ago? I'm confused.

by Anonymousreply 50502/08/2017

Sort of r503. The trial has been dramatised before (A Very British Sex Scandal) but not the whole story. It starred DL fave Sam Heughan. This new version will include real-life testimony from gay men living through the time and is possibly looked at as part of the move towards decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1967. There's various stuff going on in the UK this year to celebrate this.

by Anonymousreply 50602/08/2017

The new 24 apparently has some gay characters

by Anonymousreply 50702/08/2017

"It starred DL fave Sam Heughan. "

And you get to see him bottom in it! It used to be on youtube, not sure if it still is.

by Anonymousreply 50802/09/2017

The new FX show Legion has a lesbian character played by Aubrey Plaza. In last week's episode she talked about fingerbanging a female hookup. There is one small thing... she is the murdered ghostfriend of the lead character, who hallucinations her at random times.

by Anonymousreply 50902/19/2017

Actually that character is a bit special R509

by Anonymousreply 51002/19/2017

Holy shit, how did I miss the show Versailles? Just saw some Youtube vids with the gay couple, which is king Louis' brother and his lover. The clips are hot; actors don't hold back on the kissing scenes-- tongue is evident.

by Anonymousreply 51102/24/2017

Bellevue starring Allen Leech (Downton Abbey) and Anna Paquin (True Blood). A cop mystery show (a bit scary sometimes) about a missing male teen with gender identity issues. One of the cops is a lesbian and as it turns out the teen was about to leave town with another boy.

by Anonymousreply 51202/28/2017

R511 Versailles aired on BBC2 last June. They are shooting season 2.

by Anonymousreply 51302/28/2017

"When We Rise"

by Anonymousreply 51402/28/2017

R510, for the last time: I don't give a damn about lesbians. They already have amazing representation on tv. I care about gay male representation, which is severely lacking (GOOD representation that is, where they aren't just barely there and neutered).

by Anonymousreply 51503/02/2017

Oh, and R512, that goes for you too. You are both on my ignore list now, bye bye!

by Anonymousreply 51603/02/2017

R515 I was actually talking about the fact that she's not a lesbian, just that her character was originally written as male and they didn't change any of the dialogue.

by Anonymousreply 51703/02/2017

Does "Feud" count? Victor Buono was gay.

by Anonymousreply 51803/02/2017

by Anonymousreply 52003/12/2017

What's the name of his character, R520?

by Anonymousreply 52103/20/2017

Not R520, and I don't remember the name of his character, but he's the barista/waiter at the restaurant where the ladies are always meeting.

by Anonymousreply 52203/20/2017

His name is Tom on the show

by Anonymousreply 52303/20/2017

New British series Harlots premiering on Hulu from March 29. Set in some XVIIIth century female brothels. There's a "molly boy" in the supporting cast. Form the press pack: "Prince Rasselas played by Josef Altin. Prince Rasselas is a young molly boy who plies his trade on the streets of Covent Garden. He longs to befriend the street-girls, but Rasselas also earns coins selling information to the likes of Lydia Quigley. He’ll do what he has to survive, and to keep those he loves safe."

by Anonymousreply 52403/25/2017

After a quick google, it looks like all the writers for this are gay, Mark Gatiss included of course. Can't quite work out if the writers themselves will be presenting, otherwise no mention of casting.

(Jackie Clune...was a big lesbian in the 80s/90s but seems to be married to a man now)

by Anonymousreply 52503/27/2017

^ Sounds interesting

It looks like there may be a gay storyline brewing on "American Crime." There's something homoerotic going on between Richard Cabral's character and Connor Jessup's.

by Anonymousreply 52903/29/2017

Looks like the new Netflix series 13 Reasons Why will have a gay character, and he's actually a gay actor

by Anonymousreply 53003/30/2017

That's good, R530. He's hot, openly gay AND plays a gay character! Too bad they once again gave the lesbian on the show the juicier storyline though.. as always.

by Anonymousreply 53104/02/2017

There are actually three gay characters on the show: Tony, Ryan and Courtney. Also Courtney has gay dads, one of them none other than QaF's Robert Gant

by Anonymousreply 53204/02/2017

Yeah, R532, I know, but like I said.. the lesbian got the most juicy storyline. Can't let down the fanboys jerking off to a hot lesbian kiss!

by Anonymousreply 53304/02/2017

I havent seen the whole series yet, but I rather liked that Tony was one of the only genuinely good guys. Also was rather shocked to find that Gregg Araki directed one of the episodes - but then, 13 reasons has a kinda Araki-feel to it with its tormented quasi-queer emo kids and its shoegaze soundtrack

by Anonymousreply 53404/02/2017

Trial and Error has John Lithgow playing a murder suspect who, supposedly, killed his wife because he is gay and having an affair with his male trainer.

by Anonymousreply 53504/02/2017

When I read the summary about 13 Reasons Why I wasn't exactly interested in such a Debbie Downer type of drama show. If it has gay characters I might check it out after all.

by Anonymousreply 53604/02/2017

r236 here just finished 13 Reasons Why. It's not light entertainment, that's for sure (at some points even infuriating).
There are actually three gay characters on the show: Tony, Ryan and Courtney. Also Courtney has gay dads, one of them none other than QaF's Robert Gant

There's also Tony's boyfriend, Brad, in the present timeline. He is played by Henry Zaga who was in MTV's Teen Wolf as Josh Diaz (he was a member of Theo's pack).

BBC's comedy mini series Decline and Fall (Evelyn Waugh's classic comic novel)

Starring Jack Whitehall (nude - covering his cock and balls - early in the first episode), David Suchet (Poirot), Eva Langoria (Desperate Housewives), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy from Game of Thrones), Katy Wix (Gemma Simpson from Agatha Raisin - Comedy Murder Mystery show) and Douglas Hodge (Bartholomew Rusk in Penny Dreadful).

Douglas Hodge's character comes out to Jack Whitehall's character in a rather funny way.

by Anonymousreply 54304/07/2017

There's talk that the boy on the new Disney show "Andi Mack" will be "questioning" his sexuality, a first for the Disney Channel.

by Anonymousreply 54404/08/2017

It seems like that show is really trying to be progressive. Hopefully they won't pussy out and more shows on Disney will follow suit

by Anonymousreply 54504/08/2017

Actually, a better article

by Anonymousreply 54604/08/2017

Last night was the season 6 finale of "Homeland" and it was revealed that the character Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) is gay.

by Anonymousreply 54704/10/2017

LOL, what a surprise.. once again Disney shows how progressive it is by showing LESBIANS, not GAY MEN. Zzzzzzz. I'll pass.

by Anonymousreply 54804/10/2017

What the hell are you talking about R548?

by Anonymousreply 54904/10/2017

Modern Family

Call the Midwife

The Middle

by Anonymousreply 55004/10/2017

Isn't it enough that Disneyland has gay days R548 ?

by Anonymousreply 55104/10/2017

r548, the gay character in Andi Mack (or the one questioning his a show aimed at 8-14 year olds they don't go as far as sex) is a boy

A heads up for UK DLers; series 2 of Versailles starts on BBC2 tonight. Alexander Vlahos plays Philippe, Duke of Orleans; the King's brother. Although married and expected to procreate as per his royal duty he has an ongoing relationship with his male lover Chevalier. (all historically accurate)

by Anonymousreply 55304/21/2017

The Mist will apparently have a gay storyline.

by Anonymousreply 55404/21/2017

Dimension 404 Episode 3. Each episode has a different story and is about different characters. Episode 3 has a Stranger Things feel to it, but with a closeted gay high school nerd as main character.

by Anonymousreply 55504/24/2017

r555. My sincere apologies. It's not episode 3, the episode I was referring to is episode 4.

by Anonymousreply 55604/24/2017

OP if you enjoy soap operas and British TV, there's usually a gay couple on any given British soap.

If you don't mind foreign language subtitles, Welsh drama ROWND A ROWND are doing a lovely slow-burn gay romance right now.

by Anonymousreply 55704/24/2017

There's also two young lads on London classic EASTENDERS atm who are quite interesting; reformed thug/felon Ben & his law-student FwB Johnny.

by Anonymousreply 55804/24/2017

I like David & Rhys on Rownd a Rownd .. as well as Iolo & Tyler on Pobol y Cwm. Both couples in these two Welsh soaps have chemistry. But EE's Ben and Johnny are less than 'interesting' in my book.

by Anonymousreply 55904/24/2017

I just done binge watching Santa Clarita Diet. It seem implied that there was a same sex relationship between a cop's wife and the cop's female partner.

by Anonymousreply 56104/24/2017

r591, are you sure that Oswald is still in love, or infatuated, with Ed after what happened in the last episode?

There will be a gay sex scene on American Gods.

by Anonymousreply 57005/06/2017

This is cute.

by Anonymousreply 57105/06/2017

No but seriously, the gay storyline on Casualty is quite good. Mickey's family are neo nazi thugs, they hate black people and gay people. Mickey is gay and is currently dating Jez, a black guy. Mickey's brother is guilty of murdering one of Jez's colleagues. This storyline will be SO dramatic and I can't wait to watch every single second of it.

by Anonymousreply 57205/07/2017

Will is back on Days.

by Anonymousreply 57305/11/2017

by Anonymousreply 57705/13/2017

Great, now give him an interesting storyline and some hot sex scenes R577

by Anonymousreply 57805/13/2017

Who would've thought: Prison break. And it's actually pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 57905/14/2017

I just saw this, and thought it was interesting so I wanted to post it here. Yes, I know it's a year old and I know many of the characters mentioned are no more, but it still proves how amazing the UK is with gay characters on tv. I will say this though: gay characters on UK tv are usually very PG13 as most of them are on soaps, so there isn't a lot of gay sex etc. If you want more explicit sex scenes etc gay storylines from the US are still better on that front.

Russell T Davies is writing a script about the Jeremy Thorpe scandal in the UK. I vaguely remember this; Jeremy Thorpe was the leader of the Liberal Party. A model alleged that he'd had an affair with him in the early 60s. It ended up with allegations that Thorpe conspired to bump the model off to silence him. Not sure if anything was ever proved but it destroyed Thorpe's career... for a while anyway.

by Anonymousreply 58105/15/2017

^ It wasn't just "allegations" - his conspirators spilled the beans on him

by Anonymousreply 58205/15/2017

I'd best watch it to get the full story then r582! At the time I remember my main interest was in the dog, I was very little.

by Anonymousreply 58305/15/2017

Zach is now a series regular on Nashville. Hopefully this means we get to see more of Zach and Will.

by Anonymousreply 58405/16/2017
Isn't it enough that Disneyland has gay days [R548] ?

Every day at Disneyland should be gay day.

by Anonymousreply 58705/16/2017

R584 I like him but he's still a downgrade from Kyle Dean Massey

by Anonymousreply 58805/16/2017

More background about the Jeremy Thorpe saga

by Anonymousreply 58905/16/2017

Coming mid-season next year (and for those mourning the loss of "The Real O'Neals): J.J. Totah in "Champions"

by Anonymousreply 59005/17/2017

Oh that kid. Must be tough as an actor being so young and not being so obviously gay

by Anonymousreply 59105/17/2017

R588, I actually prefer Zach. They have good chemistry and Zach is a better match for Will.

by Anonymousreply 59205/17/2017

I made a new thread since this one is almost maxed out.

by Anonymousreply 59305/17/2017

i just watched all eight episodes of Andi Mack and there isn't even a hint of gayness in the dialogue, even though the kid is stylish and seems to have a crush on the other boy. And no teen pregnancy in sight, unless you count the girls mother who had the baby 13 years ago

by Anonymousreply 59405/28/2017

Grantchester has a gay storyline.

by Anonymousreply 59505/29/2017

ITV's latest murder mystery The Loch. Not want to spoil it regarding the gay character (or characters? Too early to tell since only the first episode has aired so far). It stars Siobhan Finneran (O'Brien from Downtown Abbey).
