Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes

Are they in love?

Or is Mr. Carson gay?

I love them both regardless.

by Anonymousreply 4310/23/2013

Carson is gay.

by Anonymousreply 102/09/2013

Carson is bi

by Anonymousreply 202/09/2013

Is he? How do you know?

by Anonymousreply 302/09/2013

He was in the theater ... case closed.

by Anonymousreply 402/09/2013

Well, he does react to Thomas rather extremely and uses some vile epithets. But I didn't get the impression he was overcompensating. And, he has shown no unprofessional behavior to Jimmy or Alfred, nor any male in the house. By the same token, he has expressed no interest in any female in the house.

by Anonymousreply 502/09/2013

I think his reaction to Thomas is completely in proportion to the awful nature of Thomas' character.

by Anonymousreply 602/10/2013

I think they're in like and the relationship is fairly married in any event. I can't imagine him giving her the bagpipes.

by Anonymousreply 702/10/2013

Bagpipes? WTF do you have going on down there, R7?

by Anonymousreply 802/10/2013

At the very least, bi.

by Anonymousreply 902/10/2013

Carson has and older brother kind of affecting for Mrs. Hughes.

by Anonymousreply 1002/10/2013

Maybe he's asexual.

by Anonymousreply 1102/12/2013

Was the Downton Abbey thread full at 400 posts? My thread watcher is telling me it doesn't exist.

by Anonymousreply 1202/12/2013

That thread has disappeared...ooowooooooooo

by Anonymousreply 1302/12/2013

Carson could just be the most asexual character ever.

by Anonymousreply 1402/12/2013

What on earth could have been controversial about the Downton Abbey thread?

by Anonymousreply 1502/12/2013

Maybe webmaster was sick and tired of the spoilers. Maybe one of us complained to Webby and he just waved his wand and viola'! Thread closed. That's power for ya.

by Anonymousreply 1602/12/2013

I refused to read that thread because of the likelihood of spoilers. Even though TWOP has its faults, at least they monitor for spoilers fairly well.

by Anonymousreply 1702/12/2013

I believe Mr Carson & Mrs. Hughes have a very loving relationship. They are old school and very courtly and proper. I think the fires are banked so to speak. Theirs is a higher love. Sort of like soldiers in combat.

by Anonymousreply 1802/12/2013

Well, yes, there was someone who posted "Spoiler Alert" and then revealed the big deal for the Christmas Special, and there was no way to avoid reading it. Maybe that's why.

But if one follows the careers of these actors, one has to know what's coming.

by Anonymousreply 1902/12/2013

Where are Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Patmore's husbands? Are they both widows?

by Anonymousreply 2002/12/2013
he just waved his wand and viola'!

So he waves his hand and invokes Ms. Davis and the thread disappears?

by Anonymousreply 2102/12/2013

R20 I don't know that they were ever married. It's my understanding that women in their positions were always referred to as "Mrs." irrespective of their marital status.

by Anonymousreply 2202/12/2013

I thought Mrs. Hughes' comment about knowing gay men before Thomas was revealing - maybe she had a husband who turned out to be gay and killed himself, and that's why she had to go into service - and why she feels for Thomas.

by Anonymousreply 2302/12/2013

R14, I believe the most asexual character of all time is Mr. Stevens (Anthony Hopkins) from The Remains of the Day. It must be a butler thing.

by Anonymousreply 2402/13/2013

Where will the Anna/Bates storyline head now? There doesn't seem to be much in store for them. Maybe they will move on to a spinoff or something.

by Anonymousreply 2502/13/2013

A Bates baby?

by Anonymousreply 2602/13/2013

Bump. (Baby bump for Mrs. Hughes)

by Anonymousreply 2702/13/2013

So is there an episode on this Sunday night or not? Is it the final episode of the season...what they're calling the Christmas episode?

by Anonymousreply 2802/13/2013

I read somewhere that Mrs. Hughes and mrs. pattmore may not be married....the title of "mrs." is conferred on the head servants - esp. the cook and head maid - as a title of respect.

by Anonymousreply 2902/13/2013

R29 Like maybe here? R22

by Anonymousreply 3002/13/2013

I found the episode last Sunday very touching. I was pleasantly surprised Lord Grantham took such an easy going attitude toward the revelation that Thomas was homosexual. I loved it when he said "in the foxholes if I had screamed every time someone tried to kiss me......". I was very happy when they found a way to keep Thomas on. I also drooled when Bates did his number on that vile, evil Obrien. When he whispered into her ear she literally shat herself.

Needless to say I live for this show. So please do not attempt to disturb me on Sunday evenings or I'll cut a bitch!

by Anonymousreply 3102/13/2013

Not the foxholes, r31. He was talking about Eton - in his school days at Eton.

by Anonymousreply 3202/13/2013

I have a feeling Lord Grantham was serviced regularly by the boys of Eton and that's why he's so cool with it.

by Anonymousreply 3302/13/2013

R28 yes it's the final episode of the season - the Christmas episode.

by Anonymousreply 3402/13/2013

One thing I didn't like about Sunday night's episode is how quickly the writers made it appear they all got over their grief over the death of Lady Sybil.

And I say, is that Allen Leech a hot piece of meat or what! When he was getting ready for bed and in his nightclothes you could see he's built like a powerhouse.

by Anonymousreply 3502/13/2013

He's in love with Mrs. Hughes. That much was made obvious when he broke out into a love song after hearing the good news about her cancer.

by Anonymousreply 3602/13/2013
And, he has shown no unprofessional behavior to Jimmy or Alfred, nor any male in the house. By the same token, he has expressed no interest in any female in the house.

In other words, Carson behaves in a professional manner.

by Anonymousreply 3702/17/2013
When he whispered into her ear she literally shat herself.

You don't understand what the word "literally" means, do you?

If she [italic]literally[/italic] shat herself on TV, it would have been pretty disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 3802/17/2013

Apparently Carson is not gay.

by Anonymousreply 3910/22/2013

Carson is a insatiable bottom.

by Anonymousreply 4010/23/2013

Why do you care about Johnny Carson and Howard Hughes? They're both dead.

by Anonymousreply 4110/23/2013

Mr. Carson is a part time musclebear

by Anonymousreply 4210/23/2013

Since they're British, they have to be Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes (no periods.)
