New York City-based DL'ers

Going to Manhattan next month to visit an elderly relative -- need to find a hotel midtown (or anywhere on the West side, really) for a couple of nights. Any recommendations? Serious replies only please. A friend recommended hotel Mela but I see the rates are beyond my price range. Thanks.

not another gayling thread... (*sigh*)

What is your price range?

by Anonymousreply 202/09/2013

$78, R2

try airbnb. You might be able to rent an apartment or room.

Don't know how the prices are but I hooked up with a guy two weeks ago who was staying at the Paramount Hotel in Times Square. We met out front because they were doing construction work in the lobby, but when we got up to the room it was very nice and quite comfy.

Savoy in Chelsea

Oh, dear. $78. Not gonna happen. And if it does, not gonna survive the night.

OP here - the real OP. My price range is 250/night. Thank you.

Check out Hotel Edison - less than a block from Times Square. It is a tourist class hotel built in the 1930s. Not great amenities, but within your price range.

by Anonymousreply 902/09/2013

OP-The Edison is always an old favorite. In your price range, a bit of old style glamour....great tacky piano bar attached to it, and 43 seconds from Broadway!

OP, use Priceline. You'll get the Marriot Marquis or Hilton for about $150. Check out "" to see the current prices.

OP, this is a silly reply, so fuck you and I hope you get mugged!

I love the Hotel Mela--I've stayed there for two weekends. When I used to go up for an opera weekend, I would stay at the Empire.
