How about real pan-fried chicken, biscuits with butter or gravy, corn on the cob with butter, mashed potatoes or grits with still more butter, greens iridescent with ham fat, cornbread with even more butter, and pie with a lard-based crust for desert.

Damn, that sounds good!

by Anonymousreply 602/08/2013

It was real R4 and oh so good.

Mama could cook.

by Anonymousreply 702/08/2013

Goddamn R6. Godfuckingdamn.

by Anonymousreply 802/08/2013

r6 is thinking like me. My stepmom is a total bitch but she's also Southern and puts out a mean spread. Cheese grits, homemade mac and cheese, meatloaf (so good), fried chicken, green beans with bacon and cooked in pork fat, cornbread with jalapenos and bacon in it...damn, no more, I'm also dieting and this doesn't help.

by Anonymousreply 1702/08/2013

With...roasted Brussels sprouts, Martha Stewart Mac n cheese, fingerling potatoes, a cheese course, and lemon pie.

I had this meal at SW Steakhouse in Vegas and it was amazing.

Starter: Seared foie gras.

Entree: Medium rare chateaubriand done Oscar style topped with Alaskan king crab.

I can't remember what the dessert was, some chocolate thing made in heaven.

I need to go back and have that again before I die.

by Anonymousreply 3202/09/2013

Sho' lotta heart disease goin' down.

by Anonymousreply 3302/09/2013

Shrimp and grits, or really any of those heart stopping low counrty foods, but made by a real southerner who grew up eating them, and can make them half asleep and come out perfect every time. not some culinary school grad who thinks they can read a recipe and then make it better by adding prosciutto to it or some f'in nonsense.

Damn, now I'm really craving shrimp and grits

by Anonymousreply 3402/09/2013

Well, before Gus was felled by a massive coronary down at the Canario, it was his giant Chili Relleno Platter #8, with 2 lovingly made rellenos, refrieds, a taco, a tamale and Mexican rice, all swimming in greasy Longhorn cheese.

by Anonymousreply 3502/09/2013

Shrimp cocktail with red sauce. The large shrimp from Guymas Mexico that never make it past the upscale restaurant market. A salad of wilted garden leaf lettuce dressed with bacon/vinegar/egg/cream dressing. Nachos el Grande -- dolloped with sour cream, tons of cheese, hot sauce and guacamole. Followed by enchiladas con carne.

by Anonymousreply 3802/09/2013

Oh god - something involving foie gras, truffles, lobster and wagyu beef.

by Anonymousreply 4002/09/2013

by Anonymousreply 4102/09/2013

Anything, really.

by Anonymousreply 4202/09/2013

Start off with a dish of clam chowder for the soup course. Then fried oysters and clams with tarter sauce over baby greens. Next, butter-poached lobster over pasta with asparagus. On the side, plenty of good red wine or beer. For dessert, rich, gooey dark chocolate cake filled with whipped ganache, glazed with dark chocolate ganache, and garnished with raspberries.

I'm a light eater.

by Anonymousreply 4502/09/2013

It's Lent now -- no decadence until after Easter.
