You are all cukoo. Lazaro cannot sing, at all. Very pour musicality and incapable of lyrical interpretation. Of all the wonderful melodies of the Beatles, he chose the one of most lackluster and sounded terrible. That was not just pitchy dawgs, that would not get you into a junior high musical as a chorus boy. Terrible.
Every one else there can sing. Candice is by far the most advanced vocalist, but Kree, Devin, Allison and Burnell shone tonight too.
Beatles music is not just melodic, it has some of the most beautiful and well known melodies of all time. Mariah was correct to say that it is risky to stray from such well loved and perfect melodies and she loves to stray from a melody trust me.
Popular music today and for about the last 25 years has been much more beat driven than melodic. Most of these kids were out of their element and over their heads with these gorgeous lyrics and melodies. We tend to think of them as simple songs, and some of them are, but deceptively so. Beatles songs done wrong are painful to listen too and a bit of a sacrilege.
Candice was instinctively smart to choose to sing "Come Together", because it is more beat and funk driven and she could have slayed any of the Beatles ballads anyday. I wish she had sung all the songs, especially Yesterday.
Kree has a unique voice and great range, but would have done better to sing two verses of the song as written instead of going off into Joe Cocker territory with "A little help from my Friends."
Paul Jolley, no, just no, is a cruise ship singer. Deserved the less than stellar feedback. Turned a great song into bad Karaoke.
Devin has the best male voice, and sang well, but "The long and Winding Road" is a song of beauty and longing and love, and he conveyed no sense of the words.
Angie chose the right song in "Yesterday", but she is the one who should have taken the song past it's simple structure and improvised more. She has a Pat Benatar, Grace Slick kind of voice that can sound pure or raspy or rock soar and she was a bit too respectful to the point of sounding timid.
Burnell has one hella sweet and sexy tone and soul vibe, but he also sang "Let if Be" a bit robot - like. That is the song to take to church and not get too jazzy precious with.
These kids were in over their heads.
Funny, that blond country girl Janelle did so well. She used the sweet spots of her natural head and chest range, and brought wonderful singing and evocative feeling to one of the Beatles lesser known hits, and whether that was a clever choice or accident she came off best.
Candice was a close second and is the best singer by galaxies.
Amber is in trouble. The song she sang is mostly unknown and as pretty as she and her voice is, she kind of messed it up.
Lazurus should never get up again, but crying and bad taste will keep him around a few more rounds.
