Ow! Pubic hair grooming injuries on the rise, researchers find

Whether it’s a DIY Brazilian wax or a botched attempt at "manscaping," homegrown efforts to remove the hair down there are sending more people to emergency rooms, new research suggests.

Shaved pubes is a turn off. Time to end the practice.

Pubic hair grooming injuries jumped five-fold between 2002 and 2010, according to a recent analysis of ER visits by scientists at the University of California, San Francisco. The cringe-inducing reports increased most at the end of the time frame.

Pubic hair grooming has become increasingly common, virtually ubiquitous, in recent decades, the report published in the journal Urology notes. Surveys suggest that among men, both gay and straight, between 58 percent and 78 percent partially or fully remove pubic hair.

Shaving razors were the culprit in 83 percent of the injuries, with cuts being most common result. Scissors were used in nearly 22 percent of injuries, and hot wax led to 1.4 percent of the harm.

lmao, yeah, okay. Must be a slow news day.

Anyone else read that as "OWL Pubic hair grooming injuries on the rise"?

by Anonymousreply 402/07/2013

Public hair grooming is how i read it

by Anonymousreply 502/07/2013

Shows jump from 2002-2010. Old data. Seems now there is less and less shaving, still some grooming/trimming and more bush in general.

Completely shaved or waxed pubic areas have about as much sex appeal as a mannequin.

by Anonymousreply 602/07/2013

Some of those ingrown hairs can be painful and nasty looking.

by Anonymousreply 702/07/2013

Trimming is best. Keeps things neat and tidy with no injuries. Bonus--you still look like an adult.

by Anonymousreply 802/07/2013

10% of the guys enter the emergency from bad cuts on their crotch, from shaving their pubes...no joke, I see this happening all the time.

No, actually you look like a nelly, over-groomed porn-star wanna-be.

This headline made me shudder. I don't dare read the rest.

by Anonymousreply 1102/07/2013

I read this as "Owl" public hair grooming injuries on the rise.

by Anonymousreply 1202/07/2013

I agree, R10, also it FEELS like shit, like your having sex with a scrub brush.

by Anonymousreply 1302/07/2013

This happened to me when I was barely 14. I trimmed my pubes because it was the only method I could think of.

I used what were apparently surgical scissors, and my hand slipped while I was holding them. They cut surprisingly deep. It healed all wonky, and I've had an incredibly ugly and obvious scar ever since.

by Anonymousreply 1402/07/2013

Trimmed so that its long enough to be soft and slightly curly is best. Bald looks creepy and short trimmed is scratchy. Hate guys whose crotch is full of razor bumps and infected ingrown hairs.

Well then, one wonders what the other 90% were doing!
