The "Gay" Couple on "The Following"
Nice twist last night that I didn't see coming. The "gay" couple who lived in the condo next to the murder victim were actually "straight" guys who were asked to portray a gay couple to gain the woman's trust. So...turns out that after having spent so much time together pretending to be a couple, they actually BECAME a couple. Hot kissing scene in the flashback.
I was unsure about this show after the pilot, but last night's episode was fantastic. I'm hooked. Same with "The Americans".

AfterElton has a feature on them.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||02/06/2013|
Is the how worth getting into? They're on ep. 3? I saw the first show and I was a little unsure about it....hard to 'follow'
|by Anonymous||reply 2||02/06/2013|
That drunk kissing scene between the two of them in the last episode was fucking hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||02/06/2013|
Are they on the new episode? I'm still a week behind with this show.

People (women) have been compiling clips from their relationship and making music videos out of them.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||02/18/2013|
Another video using those same clips
|by Anonymous||reply 7||02/18/2013|
And one more fan vid.....this one done to a remake of the Kate Bush song.
Some guy (not Maxwell) is singing This Woman's Work.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||02/18/2013|
Why do the gays gotta be bad guys?!?!
|by Anonymous||reply 9||02/21/2013|
Thanks for the spoiler warning, assholes. Maybe we would have liked to experience the twist on our own instead of you blabbing it.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||02/21/2013|
R10 You get one day before spoilers stop being spoilers. Are we never supposed to talk about episodes that are weeks old?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||02/22/2013|
."So...turns out that after having spent so much time together pretending to be a couple, they actually BECAME a couple."
Both the show and the OP sound as bit retarded.

R9, pathetic Kevin Williamson promised us he'd add a gay character to Vampire Diaries. That was two seasons ago, yet nothing happened. He's a hypocrite. It's typical that he adds gay characters in his new show, only it's ok now you know.. since they're all damaged. But in a very popular show, with witches, vampires etc he couldn't add a single gay character? Wow. The show includes a dozen characters. It speak volumes that he couldn't even add one minor gay character. Hell.. he had so many opportunities during the first few seasons with so many great characters, and there was a ton of homoeroticism on the show too. It wouldn't be a stretch to make a character gay. But no.. he couldn't do that. He creates a whole new show instead and make the bad guys gay.. whatever.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||02/22/2013|
r13, everything is not about gayness. Kevin Williamson knows this, why don't you?
|by Anonymous||reply 14||02/22/2013|
Gay men on tv these dys are all perfect with no flaws ..and the story lines are cliche and boring...so the gays in the FOllowing are a breath of fresh air.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||02/22/2013|
R14, yet he said he would add a gay character but didn't. No, not everything is about gayness, but it would be nice of a gay producer, being gay himself, to you know.. feature gay characters in his own shows. It's just hypocritical that he can make a show with witches and vampires and stuff, and yet not include a single gay character, especially since he said he would. The first coupe of seasons were so so gay, like the homoeroticism between some of the characters was undeniable, so why couldn't he exploit that more.. why not make one character gay? No.. he said he had trouble making a character gay and making it believable.. fucking BS excuse. I don't buy it.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||02/22/2013|
I wouldn't say they're both gay. One is at the very least bi because he has a thing going on with Emma. Shower scene implied they're a triad now. I don't think it's about sexuality as much as belonging to a group and following Joe. That said, they're all in love with Joe and would love to have sex with him. They're using each other as surrogates. That's my read.
On another note: does anyone else think the FBI cult lady might be in cahoots with Joe? Did you notice the looks they exchanged when she gave him books in the second episode? If she isn't working with him I have a feeling she will. Her whole spiel about cults seemed off. Or maybe Weston is working with him. I guarantee that someone in the FBI is part of Joe's cult.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||02/22/2013|
I think the FBI lady's play is going to be pretending to be infatuated with him, wanting in on his plan.
I don't think she's actually evil though.

[quote]So...turns out that after having spent so much time together pretending to be a couple, they actually BECAME a couple
I told you it was just a bad habit. Straighten up and fly right, fellas.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||02/22/2013|
The dudes on the Following are BI, not gay. Great bisexual triad with Emma.

It is very interesting to see how and why all of these followers fell under Carroll's spell.
To me the threesome is more about their worship for Carroll and his outside the narrow minded society box philosophy. I mean in real life a guy like Carroll would be laughed at for using Edgar Allen Poe's prose as gospel building a death and murder cult around it, right? To me the threesome is also about them rejecting society and its one male one female coupling concept.
It's also interesting that the gay guy has killed already with ease while the straight (or 'straight'?) is still a virgin and struggles with doing his first murder (yet wants to be part of the cult so bad).
I wonder if Mike Weston (Sean Ashmore) is a member of Carroll's cult? He goes out of his way to impress Hardy (Kevin Bacon).

[quote]pathetic Kevin Williamson promised us he'd add a gay character to Vampire Diaries.
I seem to recall that he introduced a lesbian witch around that time.
Kevin Williamson seems to be as self loathing as Julian Fellowes (the creator of Downton Abbey). I never forgave Williamson to go along with Kerr Smith's 'one faggy kiss per season is enough!' boasting (which at first I hoped was just a cover up for the studio/TV execs demand for the show to not get too gay) or hiring Ian Sommerhalder after his comments about having to make out with dude in The Rules of Attraction. Kevin sure knows how to pick 'em. I imagine Kevin to be totally into gay porn that features only Gay4Pay models.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||02/22/2013|
R21, it sounds like we're on the same wavelength. What you wrote about the triad makes a lot of sense. I guarantee that Porter or Weston is in cahoots with Carroll. At this point I could see it going either way.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||02/22/2013|
R22 I've been in hate with Kerr Smith ever since his postulating on how kids shouldn't have to watch two men kiss.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||02/22/2013|
R22, that's even more pathetic.. introducing a lesbian when he said he would include a gay, as in male character. Wow. It was obviously done so he could get away with it without actually introducing a gay character, like he could say "but I did introduce a gay character! I introduced a lesbian!" he's a hypocrite, a self hating homo. I'm glad you agree though, R22. People on AfterElton actually defend this scumbag. Oh and one more thing.. it's always fun to see producers introduce lesbian characters when they said they would include gay characters. I see it as a cop out. Lesbians are more accepted on tv due to the straight male turn on thing. They constantly use lesbians as a way to draw in male viewers. The lesbian couple on True Blood was seen making out and having sex, while the gay couple.. not so much. yep, double standard, and I'm getting sick of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||02/22/2013|
[quote]Lesbians are more [bold]accepted [/quote]on tv due to the straight male turn on thing.
I disagree, because I don't see it as accepting. To me it is objectifying women to perform a show for men's visual entertainment. I dare to claim that these men do not take lesbianism serious and they believe that all women need a real dick up their pussy in order to feel real pleasure. For these men it's just a show that is only done to arouse them and not the women involved.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||02/22/2013|
[/bold] sorry for the format error. I hope it's gone now. I don't know what went wrong.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||02/22/2013|
R27 The system goes nuts whenever it finds the words "dick" and "pussy" in the same sentence.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||02/22/2013|
r27 here, duh. Now I get it. I typed /quote instead of /bold.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||02/22/2013|
When you quote
[quote]you don't put the usual end-quote thing on the end of your paragraph.
[bold]When I do the exact same thing with bold, this is what happens.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||02/22/2013|
[bold]So don't put [/bold] on when you embolden something.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||02/22/2013|
R9, aren't the two lead brothers on the Vampire Diaries gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||02/22/2013|
[/bold] thanks, r30. I wanted to highlight 'accepted' and simply mixed up quote with bold and I didn't notice that right away. Sorry if that derailed the otherwise very interesting topic of this thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||02/22/2013|
R21, I think it's too obvious for Ashmore's character to be a Follower.
The twist would be if Natalie Zea or Annie Parisse's character were.
Both of those actresses move around from show to show so I could see either or both asking for a limited run gig.
They're both extremely talented and LIKEABLE. I'd watch them in anything.
Actually, though I DVR and fast forward through most of this show; it's too gruesome for me.
I just want to see the episode in which Ryan gets his kid back. I hope he doesn't turn into a 'Follower' before Ryan finds him.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||02/23/2013|
R35, Joey isn't Ryan's kid. He is Joe's. Or did I miss something? I thought Ryan and Claire slept together after Joe was arrested. If he were Ryan's why would she name him after her serial killer husband?
|by Anonymous||reply 36||02/23/2013|
so, if you "act gay" you'll become gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 37||02/23/2013|
Aw, 'thank you for not leaving me'. If they weren't part of a murderous cult I would so root for them to have a happy ending.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||03/01/2013|
I have to say I'm impressed with Adan Canto's acting. He's the actor playing Paul btw. It's his first English language project too, so he's actually doing a pretty good job! Nico Tortorella (sp?) on the other hand.. not so much. I mean, he's ok, but certainly not amazing or anything. Sometimes his acting is pretty bad tbh, but who cares right, since he's good looking. At least he's got that going for him, lol.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||03/01/2013|
I agree. Paul's carrying the heavy weight (including doing the killing) and Jacob just stands around and looks pretty while whining about not being gay or ready to kill someone yet.
For some reason the show has a lot of serial killer eye candy. It's almost like the show is created by Yan Moore and Liv Shyler (who are responsible for Degrassi: The Next Generation) who make a point of casting only good looking guys as rapists, pedophiles, and creeps.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||03/01/2013|
Adan Canto is the hot one. Very hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||03/01/2013|
Straight friends live on Clinton Street in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. Two guys moved into a townhouse. For months everyone on the block assumed they were gay, then one got married. Turns out they were both recently divorced and just needed a place to live.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||03/01/2013|
Adan Canto could get it, dude.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||03/04/2013|
The relationship between these guys caught my initial interest in this show. Of course they had to be doomed.
Adan, the Mexican actor, is extremely hot and was a convincing character. And Nico is a pretty boy.
If Kevin Williamson has final say in casting decisions, he chose several fine looking men for the first season.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||04/29/2013|
The series that Adan Canto filmed a pilot for is picked up for the fall season by ABC.
Watch for Mixology later this year.
