I wondered if any of you felt it gets overdiscussed here or among gay men generally.
Do any of you get sick of the obsession with the Oscars on Datalounge or in gay culture in general?

More details, r1?

|by Anonymous||reply 3||02/04/2013|
I get a chuckle when some queen gets his panties in a twist over "Best Supporting Actress" from six decades ago. It's almost as good as the never-ending Judy-worship.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||02/04/2013|
This is what DL is all about.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||02/04/2013|
My computer came with a scroll bar so I can pass any thread that holds no interest. You should invest in that OP.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||02/04/2013|
I lost interest in all things Oscar many years ago. But of someone else enjoys it, why spoil their fun?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||02/04/2013|
Yes, I have almost no contact with popular culture in the US at all, I often wonder why I'm here.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||02/04/2013|
those types of threads are started by f lamers
|by Anonymous||reply 10||02/04/2013|
Any Oscar thread will be more welcome than the cacklefest occuring in B'ways nastiest actresses official 2013 thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||02/04/2013|
No, I usually just skip them since I'm not very interested in the Oscars.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||02/04/2013|
I believe that these people must lead fairly lonely and desolate lives. They've created an imaginary world full of exciting movie stars and somehow have come to the conclusion that part of their OWN lives have somehow become invested with the life of the star in question.
They may "love" friend Ben and "hate" AnnE because she represents some sort of threat. And to these people, these relationships with two dimensional images on a screen replace the healthy friendships and loving partnerships that the rest of us have with the real people in our lives.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||02/04/2013|
Get a load of Mary! @ r13.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||02/04/2013|
I have to agree with R13. There is a lot of latching on to other peoples lives as if it's their own.
Think about it, no one latches on the the Paramedics awards, or the Nurses Awards or the Bowling awards.
People who obsess over Hollywood are all suckers who don't know they are suckers. The original reason they made awards was to get public attention for people to come to the movies, not some altruistic reason based on talent and merit.
50 years later, they have generations of sheep blindly following. Gay men are the most blind of all.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||02/04/2013|
Of course if they can't write a coherent sentence, they say things like "Get a load of Mary!"
|by Anonymous||reply 16||02/04/2013|
I will pass on Mary's load, thank you.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||02/04/2013|
I get tired of all the threads about 60-plus year old actresses. Who gives a fuck what happened to them in the 60's?
|by Anonymous||reply 18||02/04/2013|
Fuck off op
|by Anonymous||reply 19||02/04/2013|
Do you get sick of "gay culture" in general? YES!
|by Anonymous||reply 20||02/04/2013|
I pay no attention to gay culture, unless we count jerking off at the urinals with other dudes. That's part of the "culture", right?
The Oscars are for queens, or movie nerds. It's all a meaningless bore, nothing to be taken seriously. I hardly ever see new movies and couldn't care less about any of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||02/04/2013|
I don't get NEARLY as sick of talk of the Oscars as I do the Super Bowl, which is just downright obnoxious.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||02/04/2013|
What r22 said.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||02/05/2013|
Wait until the TONY® Awards, darling.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||02/05/2013|
Yes! When I was starry-eyed, I was interested. But now, it seems to be passe among my gay acquaintances.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||02/05/2013|
Oscar talk is national,since everyone has seen the films; Tony talk is pretty much limited to the overbearing dilettantes of NYC who love dropping names as if they actually know these performers. It's laughable.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||02/05/2013|
r21 = another hypocrite claiming to have no interest in gay culture, which he types out on the gay forum he hangs out on.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||02/05/2013|
I blame the Streep Troll. He takes it to a whole new level.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||02/05/2013|
It is amusing to me that so many think the Academy Award is some how more legitimate than the other acting awards shows.More prestigious perhaps but no more legitimate than any of the others.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||02/05/2013|
What R29 said.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||02/05/2013|
I get sick of the inability of people on DL to avoid threads in which they have no interest.
No, OP, I don't get sick of it because I don't read threads about people's obsessing over Oscars if I'm not interested. To be at the point of being "sick" over a thread on DL, about any subject?
|by Anonymous||reply 31||02/05/2013|

Look back again at the three sentences you've written. Any logical inconsistencies leap out at you? Think very hard.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||02/05/2013|
I've lost interest in the Oscars because I don't care much for the films being made. I don't generally like who is being pedaled as film stars. And so I do a good enough job of ignoring what's playing ... at the movies.
I don't begrudge those who are still embracing today's films. And for anyone wanting to discuss the Oscars, I have no problem with it. It seems appropriate for this site. (And the timing is right.)
|by Anonymous||reply 33||02/05/2013|
[quote]Wait until the TONY® Awards, darling.
The nice thing about the Tony Awards is most of us have no idea what the hell they're on about.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||02/05/2013|
I resent it that they aired a video in which Adam Sandler talked at length about how important "You, the Audience" is to Hollywood the same year Sandler robbed his audiences and beat them with a shit-bra called JACK AND JILL.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||02/05/2013|
I used to enjoy it. Now i find it annoying.
I guess some of us grow up.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||02/06/2013|
And the proliferation of awards ceremonies is just making it worse. (Like the Golden Globes, which we all just used to laugh at, and now they treat it like it's holy writ.)
|by Anonymous||reply 37||02/06/2013|
you post this every year op.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||02/06/2013|
The OP wants a gay forum without the gay. This isn't str8-acting.com and it's never going to be.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||02/06/2013|
I'm not an Oscar queen at all. But I've learned to love the DL for all things Oscar. Streep Troll notwithstanding, the guys here know their shit. It's fun to learn about a topic I don't know much about.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||02/06/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 41||02/06/2013|
Then what the fuck are you doing on a gay forum r42, if you have such a disdain for gay people? If you love straights so much, go hang out with them.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||02/06/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 44||02/06/2013|
I wouldn't think R13 could form healthy relationships, what with his head so far up his own ass all the time. What a snotty douche.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||02/06/2013|
What R28 said. The Streep Troll ruins any thread on here about movies and awards. I don't open them anymore because I can't stand him. It's too bad he's such a pretentious boob because underneath all of the Streep madness I think he actually knows some stuff about film.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||02/06/2013|
Oh, R32, you're so amusing!
|by Anonymous||reply 47||02/06/2013|
Streep Loon eats shit.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||02/06/2013|
OP, I adore old movies and movie stars when they were real stars.I get sick of our society, straight and gay's obsession with these losers from the film industry and the Oscars! People go nuts over these celebrities who look like an average next store neighbor ,and who are so uninteresting and boring as hell! I haven't watched the Oscars in a long time because as far as I'm concern, its dead.
