Great '80s comedy-adventure flick. Elisabeth Shue was perfect in the lead, and the kids were all perfectly cast (which included future out gays Anthony Rapp and Maia Brewton). Also notable for featuring a hot and in-shape Vincent D'Onofrio as Dawson/Thor and a kick-ass oldies soundtrack.
"Adventures in Babysitting"

"Don't FUCK with the babysitter!"

I had a big crush on Elisabeth Shue. This was right before I realized I was gay. Coincidence?
|by Anonymous||reply 2||02/03/2013|
I loved this movie when I was a kid.

This was around the time Kevin Spacey tried to seduce Rapp.

Funny that both Jodie Foster and Michelle Pfeiffer were originally offered the role.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||02/03/2013|
Really, R5? Jodie and Shue are about the same age, so I can sort of see that, but isn't Pfeiffer a little too old?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||02/03/2013|
I had a crush on her, too, R2. She still looks great, and has some amazing arms, which she displayed recently on an episode of CSI. The woman can rock a tank top.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||02/03/2013|
OMG... I would love to have seen Jodie saying "Don't FUCK with the babysitter" in that bass voice of hers.

The "Babysitting Blues" sequence, where they have to sing the blues in order to get out of that club, is classic.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||02/03/2013|
It wasn't that great...
|by Anonymous||reply 10||02/03/2013|
Again, DL thinks it's the 1980s.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||02/03/2013|
Those brats were so homophobic, I might've been able to moderately enjoy it on a fluff level otherwise.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||02/03/2013|
Don't forget Bradley Whitford as the oldest looking senior on film since the actors in GREASE.
Love that film, btw.
"Don't nobody leave this place without singing the blues"

Jodie's only a few years younger than Michelle.
And the movie had a long history. It was supposed to be filmed in the 60s with Jane Fonda and then was shelved. When it was first brought back, the idea was to have Bridgette Fonda do it. I don't know or remember why that didn't work out. Some of the other actresses that were offered the part included Sharon Stone, Valerie Bertinelli, Justine Bateman, and Tatum O'Neil. Oddly, the first choice was supposed to be Kathleen Turner.

And in case any one feels a strong need to watch it. The complete movie is up on Youtube.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||02/03/2013|
The Babysitting Blues sequence is awesome.
Penelope Ann Miller was funny in this too.

Oh, get off it R11. There's nothing wrong with reminiscing.
Bradley was hot as her dickhead cheating boyfriend.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||02/03/2013|
I loved this movie. I think Justine Bateman could have pulled it off. Kathleen Turner was too old even then.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||02/03/2013|

YOU JUST MOVED!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 20||02/03/2013|
Elisabeth Shue was supposed to be 17, but looked like she was pushing 30.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||02/03/2013|
R21- She looked 20 in the movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||02/03/2013|
Was Chris supposed to be in high school? I thought she was in college.
They were going to remake it a few years ago with Raven Symone and Miley Cyrus, but someone wisely put the ixnay on that idea.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||02/03/2013|
Wasn't the recent "Fun Size" just a ripoff of this film. The original -- "Adventures in Babysitting" -- was 1000x more enjoyable.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||02/03/2013|
I had no idea Bradley Whitford was once a stud.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||02/03/2013|
Believe it or not, Vincent d'Onofrio was the stud in that movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||02/03/2013|
More pics, R26! I like his hairy chest.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||02/03/2013|
What ever happened to Keith Coogan?
|by Anonymous||reply 28||02/03/2013|
Guilty pleasure for me! Fell in love with Thor!
|by Anonymous||reply 29||02/03/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 30||02/03/2013|
Take it back Brad! Take back what you said about THOR!
|by Anonymous||reply 31||02/04/2013|
Wow, Brad Whitford looked great when young. He looked good until his marriage ended and then suddenly he aged a decade overnight. Maybe it was the stress of the breakup or maybe it would've happened that way no matter what.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||02/04/2013|
If you recall, as Chris was dancing at that Frat party with the guy, he asked her if she was a freshman and she replied that she was a senior...in HS.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||02/04/2013|
The character of Brenda wandering around the bus stop cracks me up every time.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||02/04/2013|
Whitford aged a lot over the course of The West Wing. They even made reference to Josh's hairline receding on WW.

I saw this movie probably 100 times as a kid
|by Anonymous||reply 37||02/04/2013|
"I'll make this very clear: you slip me the cash, and I'll slip you the weiner."
"But I don't HAVE any cash!"
"Then I don't have a WEINER!"
|by Anonymous||reply 38||02/04/2013|
LOL. I was reading that the "I don't have a weiner" line was originally ad-libbed by the actor as "Then I don't have a fuckin' weiner!" Chris Columbus liked it, but Disney insisted he take it out.
