What do you know that the vast majority of people do not know?

Do you know anything that very few people know?

by Anonymousreply 6603/04/2013

It's better to know nothing than to assume anything.

by Anonymousreply 101/27/2013

The vast majority do not know "pron"

by Anonymousreply 201/27/2013

History of pensions. Not too many of us out there....

I know how to keep bees. Had a hive in my early teens for spending money.

by Anonymousreply 401/27/2013

That my blatino husbear is the sexiest man on earth.

by Anonymousreply 501/27/2013

When does "knowing" differ from having an opinion?

by Anonymousreply 601/27/2013

We can never really know anything completely. Even knowledge itself is ultimately suspect.

by Anonymousreply 701/27/2013

My pussy actually smells like a field a wildflowers and lavender after a refreshing spring shower.

by Anonymousreply 801/27/2013

A variation of this question appeared on a mental health questionnaire I filled out once. It was in a cluster of "Do you talk to extraterrestrials?" and "Are you in cahoots with foreign governments?" types of questions.

I didn't want to be misdiagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic, but honestly, when I'm hungry and don't tell anyone, the answer is "yes." So I put that down.

They told me to quit drinking and lay off the blow.

by Anonymousreply 901/27/2013

Well R6, there is absolute truth which is what physicists and philosophers quantify and describe.

So there is concrete, absolute "reality" which can in theory persist without observers and "relative reality" which depends opon an observer (opinion). A realtive truth and an absolute truth can contradict one another and both be true at the same time.

But absolute truth is heirarchical, like ethics. So an account of a scenario can be relatively true, but there is an objective truth (what really happened).

An "opinion" is a relative truth that a person "bets" is objectice truth, based on their knwledge so far, and acknowledges as much.

"Knowing" is an opinion that one pretends is objective truth, despite any contrary evidence.

by Anonymousreply 1001/27/2013

That our entire existence & universe is a computer simulation.

by Anonymousreply 1101/27/2013

What if you're an idealist, Berkeleyan or otherwise? Or what if you're an anti-realist, in the Dummettian tradition? For both, there is no absolute reality. Your mileage may vary, of course... I'm an epistemological skeptic, though, and hew more closely to those two strains of thought.

by Anonymousreply 1201/27/2013

There's a wide gap between what's normal - the idea, the perception of what's normal, what we see on television, movies, and most media - what's average - the reality.

Television and the internet have severly warped our sense of what's normal. Compassion, civility, and common sense are the victims.

by Anonymousreply 1301/27/2013

That Injin Joe is ticklish.

by Anonymousreply 1401/27/2013

Yes R3

by Anonymousreply 1501/27/2013

I know lots of stuff that most people don't know. But stuff I know that NOBODY ELSE knows, well, it would be very arrogant to presume there is anything in that category aside from the personal.

by Anonymousreply 1601/27/2013

Right back at you R1, you are as guilty as anyone.

by Anonymousreply 1701/28/2013

that I'm incredibly lonely and don't know how to make friends - my life is full of acquaintances, mostly co-workers, but no friends

by Anonymousreply 1801/29/2013

I know who will stop the rain.

by Anonymousreply 1901/29/2013

R18, I'm very lonely too.

I do know how to make friends, but I don't run into enough people in the numbers of which it would take to winnow a friend or two from that number.

One really needs a cross-section of people who one runs into even to have the opportunity to make a friend.

I know first-hand that the nasty consequences attributed to heroin addiction are actually the result of the criminalisation of heroin. It was used for hundred of years before it was prohibited, even in western societies, and the world kept turning just fine.

by Anonymousreply 2101/29/2013

I know why the caged bird sings...

by Anonymousreply 2201/29/2013

by Anonymousreply 2301/29/2013

I know a place where the music is fine And the lights are always low

by Anonymousreply 2401/29/2013

I think the major problems with heroin arose when people started refining it to higher concentrations for smoking and mainlining.

by Anonymousreply 2501/29/2013

I know how to cut dovetails by hand.

by Anonymousreply 2601/29/2013

I know the truth, and it haunts me.

by Anonymousreply 2701/29/2013

There were no major problems attributed to heroin when it was criminalised, r25. It's fairly benign physiologically and it was affordable so there was very little crime associated with it. You could get it in beer, in cough syrups, and all sorts of preparations. It was banned because it was associated with the Chinese and the moralisers of the time didn't want white women corrupted by those yellow fiends (despite the fact Britain had gone to war with China to maintain it's opium export market there).

by Anonymousreply 2801/29/2013

benign, R28? other than being highly addictive and withdrawal is a bitch?

by Anonymousreply 2901/29/2013

That a spanking or the threat of getting one brings out either the best or the worst in a man.

by Anonymousreply 3001/29/2013

the way to San Jose

by Anonymousreply 3101/29/2013

I used to know the way to San Jose, but that bitch Marilyn McCoo made me forget.

by Anonymousreply 3201/29/2013

Benign in the sense, r29, that unadulterated heroin doesn't damage the brain or organs at all. Overdose is the only real health risk associated with it and that's a risk that increases when the drug is criminalised (variations in strength make it much more difficult to determine a safe dose). Withdrawal certainly is a bitch but it's not harmful - alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal are much more dangerous to one's health than health - so much so that alcoholics and benzo users need medical supervision to go cold turkey.

by Anonymousreply 3301/29/2013

I know where I've been.

OP, That question is so vague. Many people have specialized knowledge, if it relates to their careers or personal interests. Look at the writers of Wikipedia. Does that mean you see yourself as an elitist if you're a prodigy?

I don't have a job

It kills me. When I look at old TV shows from the 50s and early 60s, I realize that I know more than many of the top scientists knew in that era.

But nobody will hire me. It's just not important anymore.

Celebrities are important. Political pundits are important. Heirs to large fortunes are important. Real estate moguls and bankers are important.

by Anonymousreply 5103/03/2013

I knew when the redwing blackbirds and grackles were due back.
