Quick: How much to mail a letter in the U.S.?

The U.S. Postal Service will increase the price of a stamp this weekend to 46 cents.

The one cent hike was first announced last October. Postcard postage will also rise one cent to 33 cents.

Letters to international destinations will rise to $1.10, up from 85 cents to Mexico and Canada and $1.05 to other destinations. Overall, prices for mailing and shipping services will increase by 4 percent as the Postal Service continues to struggle with insolvency issues.

During the past year, the Postal Service has cut hours at thousands of post offices and merged some of its plants leading to a 28,000 decline in its workforce through retirements and departures.

Why is it $1.10 to Canada & Mexico right next-door but 5 cents less than that to overseas destinations?

by Anonymousreply 101/27/2013

They have to recoup all the money they wasted on Lance.

I have no idea what it costs to mail a letter.

by Anonymousreply 301/27/2013

R1 That's because of the tariffs implemented by Canada and Mexico on incoming international mail.

I can't wait for these in February

by Anonymousreply 501/28/2013

What type of letter is this?

by Anonymousreply 601/28/2013

R1, I think it's currently 85 cents to Canada and Mexico and $1.05 to other countries. After the increase, it will be $1.10 to all countries.
