Why didn't Jean Valjean ever take a wife?

Was he a confirmed bachelor? How about Javert?

by Anonymousreply 1301/26/2013

He wanted to bone his step-daughter.

Wouldn't they have had to post the bonds? Then that nasty Javert would have caught him in no time.

by Anonymousreply 201/25/2013

Cosette wasn't his stepdaughter, she was his daughter.

He was fucking his male personal assistant.

"Post the banns," not "the bonds."

R6 sorry it's been a long time since I lived in the 1800s.

If you read the original book, Jean Valjean has learned, as a homeless ex prisoner, to service men who can help him. That's why the Bishop is so generous to him.

He grows to like male on male love, and seeks it secretly. There is a clear indication that the hate Javert has is really repressed homosexual desire, just like with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.

Of course, all of that was cut from the musical.

meet me at the gas station, was the last thing he told me

by Anonymousreply 1001/25/2013

He didn't because the farmer took a wife.

by Anonymousreply 1101/25/2013

I think the part where he finds the hot young Marius at that underground club and "brings him home" is hot.

by Anonymousreply 1201/25/2013

The original lyric was not "Bring Him Home," but "Bring Him Out."
