Should NOT be on this list:
OP: Chris Evans and Keanu Reeves (hot and awesome; I'll watch all of their stuff)
R1: Sam Worthington (great in Terminator Salvation and Avatar)
R2: Leonardo DiCaprio (probably the best actor of his generation)
R3: Jodie Foster (probably the best actress of her generation)
R5: Ashley Judd (smart, beautiful, and talented)
TRULY awful actors:
Mickey Rourke (yuck, just yuck; seriously, they couldn't ANYONE better to play Gareth Thomas?!)
Denzel Washington (pretentious prick; can't hide it on film)
Patricia Heaton (hateful twat)
Victoria Jackson (ditto)
Steven Seagal (...applies if you use the term "acting" loosely)
Julia Roberts (same persona in every movie)
Matthew McConaughey (ditto)
|by Anonymous||reply 8||01/25/2013|
Jennifer Aniston. Same character in every movie.

Now, Jeff Goldblum...oh vey!
|by Anonymous||reply 19||01/25/2013|
R8, Sam Worthington was fucking horrendous in "Avatar." WTF were you watching?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||01/25/2013|
Andie McDowall. Not sure if you can call her an 'actor', though.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||01/25/2013|

Andie MacDowell reminds me of another actress who deserves to be on this list: Julia Ormond.

Jennifer Aniston was good in Hideous Bosses.

|by Anonymous||reply 31||01/25/2013|

Salma Hayek. Even in Frida.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||01/25/2013|
Jen Anniston actually had many good movies "Good Girl" was a good dark indie one, "Along came Polly" made me laugh a lot but I was also a teenager when I saw it in the theater. I watched the Boss movie whilst in a hotel for business and it was good..
My list: Jaden Smith Salma (Milk commercial? Yep that's how she acts in her "major movie roles" too) Tom Cruise (entertaining in action flicks, but I'm always like "That's Tom Cruise" and can't disassociate him from his tabloid sagas)

I believe alost every actor or actress nowadays ruin most movies.
This is why I hardly watch movies or TV shows or any of that sort anymore.

DiCaprio is the most self-conscious, "actory" actor of the entire Hollywood 40+ geriatric set. God Speed, Leo. No one will give you an Oscar for a ... long time. I'm not going to say what I was going to say.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||01/25/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 51||01/25/2013|
R50 Leo is "overshadowed" because he CAN'T ACT!
|by Anonymous||reply 52||01/25/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 53||01/25/2013|
Yes. It seems like everything she does is a lame Oscar Bait period piece. She loves roles that are beyond her reach as an actress (Anna Karenina)
|by Anonymous||reply 54||01/25/2013|
R54 I loathe Keira Knightley as a human being but am usually pleasantly surprised by her performances.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||01/25/2013|
With the exception of AMC; Susan Lucci!
|by Anonymous||reply 56||01/25/2013|
While Lucci is not the greatest thespian, I would add to the AMC exception, she also has not ruined certain comedic roles such as playing a satire version of herself on Hot in Cleveland.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||01/25/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 58||01/25/2013|
Brad Pitt (except Moneyball)
|by Anonymous||reply 59||01/25/2013|
Pretty much every A list actor esp. Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Leonardo Di Caprio - all really shitty actors. I find it among the greatest mysteries why these hags are being pushed by Hollywood.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||01/25/2013|
Yes. Forgot about Affleck although I don't think he is as bad as he gets panned for. I think he was actually pretty good in The Town and Argo.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||01/25/2013|
Chris Evans is really good.
Jennifer Anniston is great.
Mark Wahlberg has improved so much.
All 3 are very versatile and I appreciate their work.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||01/25/2013|
Jennifer MANISTON plays the same character over nd... and over again. She is Rachel from Friends in everything. Horrible actress. Has one persona with limited range.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||01/26/2013|
[quote]I don't think Di Caprio is as horrible as overreaching in his ambitions. He lands starring roles in plum projects in which he regularly gets overshadowed by someone else in the cast.
I like Leo, I just think it's high time he did something fun onscreen. Seems all of his films are so, well, SERIOUS all the time. Why not do a comedy for a change? Show the audience a different, more fun side of your personality. That, if nothing else, would be my career advice for Leo (as if he'd ever ask).

John Lithgow owns this thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||01/26/2013|
Bradley Cooper and Chris Evans are both pretty boys who've made it on their looks (though to be fair, Cooper is a slightly better actor than Evans). If we can say it about Jennifer Aniston (as R63 did and was completely on point), we can say it about these two.
Cooper did an acceptable job in "Silver Linings Playbook" but in no way did he deserve that Oscar nomination for Best Actor (and certainly not over John Hawkes, who was overlooked). Now he will likely be thought of as a "serious" actor when, like Aniston, every portrayal will be virtually the same.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||01/26/2013|
[quote] Forgot about Affleck although I don't think he is as bad as he gets panned for. I think he was actually pretty good in The Town and Argo.
Ben Affleck "took me out" of both ARGO and THE TOWN. To whatever extent I enjoyed the movie, every time he was on screen I thought "there's Ben Affleck trying to pretend he's a tough bankrobber" or a "weary, experienced CIA agent".
Is this because he isn't that good of an actor, or because he is too well-known as a celebrity, or because he was mis-cast in these roles? My guess he is an okay actor but had no business playing either of those roles.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||01/26/2013|
Andi McDowall had the distinction of being the worst actor in St Elmo's Fire!
|by Anonymous||reply 69||01/26/2013|
Do people actually find Cooper attractive? He's cross-eyed.
|by Anonymous||reply 70||01/26/2013|
Cooper looks like a ferret. Ugh. The Hangover franchise was the best thing ever happened to him. Subtract the Box Office for Hangover I & II, and his lifetime Box office isn't very impressive.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||01/26/2013|
I totally agree, R60. Part of it for me is that they're too famous. I can't suspend the amount of disbelief necessary to see them as characters instead of the very famous people they are.
I would add Marky Mark to the list.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||01/26/2013|
I agree with most of the actors on this list, except fot Keira. She's inconsistent but I'd never call her horrible, not when she has "Pride & Prejudice" and "Atonement" on her resume. I even liked her in "Anna Karenina", maybe she just has to work with Joe Wright for the rest of her life.
Scarlett Johansson was a ver promising actress once, with "Lost in Translation" and "Ghost World", now she takes me out of every movie she's in. The same note over and over again. Her stage work is even more overpraised. Her tony win was a joke.
Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen are dreadful.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||01/26/2013|
There is a difference between not having the greatest range of an actor and ruining every role. Chris Evans might not be the best actor of all time, but he hit all the right notes for Captain America, it was within his wheel house and he did not ruin the movie. Plus pulling off the sincerely honest role is tougher than it looks, and Evans did not fall back into his normal saracastic humaan torch persona (actually - while the Fantastic Four movies were bad, I think Evans was the one actor who came out ok). I thought he was also decent in a direct to video called Cellphone.
I am sure there are great number of dramatic roles he would ruin, but I would not say he has ruined every role he has taken. Andie McDowall on the other hand....
|by Anonymous||reply 74||01/26/2013|
Agree with Jessica Alba.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||01/26/2013|
Julia Roberts Bradley Cooper (I always see his character from Wedding Crashers - angry,sadistic,coked up)
|by Anonymous||reply 76||01/26/2013|
Thand oute are
Brad Pitt Shia LeBeef Jessica Alba (of course) Bradley Cooper Tom Cruise Johnny Depp Angelina Jolie

It's funny how DLers will attack someone like Jonah Hill but defend Chris Evans. You are just praising the guys you think are hot, even if they are talentless himbos, and attacking unattractive men.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||01/26/2013|
R64- I agree to the extent that perhaps he can handle that genre better. However, he is an awful actor who takes on "serious" roles most likely in the hopes of getting an Oscar. But he STINKS

Minnie Driver. Can you believe they tried to sell her as a sex symbol at one time?
|by Anonymous||reply 84||01/27/2013|
Woody Allen, although to be fair, he just plays the same role over and over.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||01/27/2013|
Jessica Alba can't even play herself as a loving mother in her Windows Phone comercial. She's bottom of the barrel.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||01/28/2013|
Catherine Zeta-Jone who has overacted in every movie since she won/banged her way to an Oscar. Pre-Oscar she was a bearable Jenifer Aniston level of an "actress". Now after banging gramps/her husband so she could win an Oscar for a mediocre performance, well she has become just awful. A high school performer.
|by Anonymous||reply 87||01/30/2013|
This was back in the '70s and '80s, but Dr. Joyce Brothers used to make appearances in almost every TV show (usually playing herself, or a variation of herself). She couldn't act and she totally destroyed the believability of any scene she was in. Especially if it was a cop show or a drama. Godawful.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||01/30/2013|
Madonna (cf "The Next Best Thing")
Jennifer Lopez (cf "The Cell")
There are a ton, including many already named, but these two movies/roles/"actors" were so rotten I haven't watched anything with them since.

Keanu has been perfect in many roles, so fuck-off, OP.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||01/30/2013|

R8 is an idiot. Denzel is perfect in every role he plays.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||01/30/2013|
Chris Evans. Sigh. He can ruin any HOLE he's been in, starting with mine.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||01/30/2013|

But I'll swap you one Julia for another--
Julia Styles is truly horrific!
|by Anonymous||reply 97||01/31/2013|
Oh, come on, Minnie Driver is great, especially that husky voice. (See "The Riches" and you might change your mind). But I do agree that she was a tough sell as the sexy leading lady especially in "Good Will Hunting" (making the 'how 'bout them apples' scene laughable).
She always looked like Julie Kavner's daughter. Hardly a hottie. But great actor.
|by Anonymous||reply 98||01/31/2013|
Also LOL at R86. Saw that Alba commercial today and hated it as much as her movies. She looks like hasn't met kids, let alone had any. No personality. Make her retire!

despite being celebrated as a character actor, I feel that Gene Hackman brings incredibly dullness to anything he is in.
chris evans was great as captain america. he made the movie better.
mickey rourke was fantastic in 9 1/2 weeks and the wrestle
dicaprio is a genius and elevated everything
true shit list actors, IMHO
jessica alba jessica biel jack black is a bit overrated. he was fine in school of rock - sucked in King Kong ryan reynolds sucks - so bland i feel that ed norton has lost his mojo, he new movies are very dull, and he's part of the reason sames goes for De Niro - he's past it nicole kidman sucks in almost everything but To Die for and Moulin Rouge
actors that don't suck ewan mcgregor should be in everything cate blanchett is a goddess ralph fiennes and rachel weicz are flawless helen mirren is amazinh angelina jolie is a wicked actress
