What qualities have staying power in history? People like Nicki Minaji, Britney Spears...etc won't be remembered come a few decades, but people like Beethoven do, so what makes someone remembered?

If you know anything about pop music, PLENTY of it gets remembered.

Some of you are so narrow minded, it's sad.

Revolutionaries of thought, sport, literature, music, politics, etc., get remembered because, through genius, timing, luck, and/or a perfect storm of other events, they forever change a certain facet of humanity.

Famous people, like Britney et al, might very well define an age or time, but the vast majority don't transcend their age and time. So, they rule the roost for a few years or decades, then fade into obscurity.

You have to be a genuinely great artist, like Beethoven or Jane Austen or Beyonce.

Really? Tell us about your favorite pop songs from one hundred years ago. Here's a list.

Being remembered solely depends on who is doing the remembering.

Who writes the history books?

Who controls the media?

Who writes the obits and publicizes them?

Most of the time -- outside of pop music -- it helps to be remembered if you are a)White b) male c) heterosexual
