General knowledge question:

What are the little absorbent cloth loops on washcloths and towels called? If the towel was a tongue, they would be tastebuds, know what I mean? They scrub skin cells off, and suck up your shower water.

Is there a word for those?

The label on some towels may refer to 100% cotton pile or loops.

Terry is a cloth with either loops all over on both sides of the fabric or patterned loops on both sides. It is formed through a weaving process with an extra warp yarn to make the loops. Characteristics of terry cloth are: long wearing, easy to launder and requires no ironing. Terry can be bleached, dyed, or printed (like screen printing). Better quality terry has a close, firm underweave, with very close loops (in other words, the closer the loops, the better the quality of terry). Terry is very absorbent, and the longer the loop, the greater the absorbency. When the pile is only on one side, it is called "Turkish toweling".

The nap of the fabric.

So if they are collectively "the nap," are they individually "naps?"

If I cut just one of those things off a towel and ate it, what would I say I just ate?

You people are a fount of ignorance.

WASHCLOTH TASTEBUDS. They can't be called that, right? Not even in Canada. BUT THEY'RE CALLED SOMETHING.

JESUS, I ask you ONE TIME for a GENERAL KNOWLEDGE ANSWER and this is what I get.

No it's me. It's my level of expectation, set too high. Go to bed, Christina.

You'll pay for this tomorrow.

Piles? Or Pile? Does it change if you isolate one of them?

by angry midget drug addictreply 1101/19/2013

Washcloths have tastebuds?

by angry midget drug addictreply 1201/19/2013

It's always "pile" unless you are comparing two or more different piles.
