Is Phil Phillips making a ton of money from that "Home" song?

It's EVERYWHERE. I have already heard it in two movie trailers and a few commercials. Plus bumpers on news shows.

by Anonymousreply 4601/20/2013

Probably not - it's his first record deal, and first timers usually get screwed if they end up with a mega hit.

by Anonymousreply 101/18/2013

The song writer made money

by Anonymousreply 201/18/2013

I fucking hate that fucking song.

by Anonymousreply 301/18/2013

I fucking love that fucking song.

by Anonymousreply 401/18/2013

No, he's not. He's probably getting screwed over much like most new artists.

I don't really like him. From what I've seen he basically ripped off a bunch of artists and claimed it as his own "style" on the AI show and with that single, he's just ripping off Mumford & Sons.

by Anonymousreply 501/18/2013

I love the song.

When I was on pins and needles towards the end of the election, I imagined celebrating Obama's win by dancing to that song (especially the chorus), along with Obama, Michelle, my fellow-Dlers and the rest of the civilized world.

So guess what?

by Anonymousreply 601/18/2013

I knew this would be shit before I even clicked on OP's link

In the '60s they actually knew how to make songs like this.

Strange what happened to people.

by Anonymousreply 701/18/2013

He is fast becoming AI's biggest winner in years. He needs a "Since U Been Gone" type cross-format hit to cement his current popularity and chart success.

by Anonymousreply 801/18/2013

That song will always remind me of watching women's olympic gymnastics.

by Anonymousreply 901/18/2013

Not my favorite song, but as many folks in the music business have said, this is a pleasant and nice enough song compared to the usual audio abortions that AI winners must sing.

by Anonymousreply 1001/18/2013

I love it.

by Anonymousreply 1101/18/2013

I like the song, but didn't Phil Phillips say he didn't much care for it because it wasn't his style? He wants to be a Dave Matthews clone. "Home" will probably end up being his one and only hit.

by Anonymousreply 1201/18/2013

It is the only song of his I know but I am seeing him open for Matchbox 20 next month.

by Anonymousreply 1301/18/2013

Exactly, R9.

It has a nice message.

Depending on my mood it can make me teary-eyed.

by Anonymousreply 1401/18/2013

Fuck you, OP and R14. OP's non-signifying interest in the commercial ramifications of this piece of shit song and R14's sentimental claptrap are examples of the sort of bullshit that's ruining the world.

by Anonymousreply 1501/18/2013

Then please leave it, R15.

by Anonymousreply 1601/18/2013

Wow R15, bitter?

I'm more inclined to think that people who are angry, overreact and lash out (like *you*) are what's ruining this world.

by Anonymousreply 1701/18/2013

R15 has been cunting up DL all day. Poor dear.

by Anonymousreply 1801/18/2013

Sweets, trolldar me. I haven't posted here for days before tonight. And, to all my detractors, sorry that I hit so close to home that you wished death on me. And you say I'm overreacting. Oh, the foolishness.

by Anonymousreply 1901/18/2013

Do us all a favor and keep your posts infrequent, R19. Thanks for that.

by Anonymousreply 2001/18/2013

[quote]sorry that I hit so close to home that you wished death on me.

Where did anyone wish death on you? Learn how to read.

by Anonymousreply 2101/18/2013

What was R16, R18/21? Oh, and also: Nothing to say about the "cunting it up all day" accusation that you made? You know, that you pulled out of your ass? Okay.

by Anonymousreply 2201/18/2013

Um, R22, I didn't see anyone wish death on you either. Your reading comprehension skills are awful.

by Anonymousreply 2301/18/2013

R15, please die.

by Anonymousreply 2401/18/2013

r6 needs a man to fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 2501/18/2013

Lots of insane posts on here all over a perfectly lovely song. It's the song writer and probably the record label who makes money off the song. The songwriter is a Scottish man by the name of Greg Holden who co wrote it with Drew Pearson. Greg's record label submitted it to Idol as a possible coronation song.

Philip Philips complained about it until he saw it was getting popular. Then he claimed he liked it and had made it his own.

Philip Phillips probably receives standard flat amounts. For appearing at Disney World he gets 200,000. He also got 300,000 in advance when he finished his first album.

I agree. What's wrong with people?

by Anonymousreply 2701/18/2013

This thread is a perfect example of why I've been coming to DL all these years. Where else can you witness a bunch of nutters lose it over a damn song?

by Anonymousreply 2801/19/2013

People used to talk about my hit song.

by Anonymousreply 2901/19/2013

I first heard this song the day I was helping to move my mom from her home of 53 years into an assisted living center.

The lyrics perfectly described my mom's apprehensions and us kids wanting to "make this place your home."

by Anonymousreply 3001/19/2013

Wow, all this over a song.

by Anonymousreply 3101/19/2013

He has big dick (speaking) voice.

by Anonymousreply 3201/19/2013

Song is okay. I just hate the overkill/saturation so I tend to hit the mute button.

by Anonymousreply 3301/19/2013

This is the first time I heard it and I think I hate it. It also reminds me of other country western songs...I mean, it's like he stole a little from this one and a little more from that one.

by Anonymousreply 3401/19/2013

[quote]I mean, it's like he stole a little from this one and a little more from that one.

Welcome to the music business

by Anonymousreply 3501/19/2013

[quote]It also reminds me of other country western songs

"country western"?

Are you posting from the 70s?

by Anonymousreply 3601/20/2013

For R34 and R36

by Anonymousreply 3701/20/2013

R7 I still have that album on vinyl!

by Anonymousreply 3801/20/2013

I don't know what to make of songs that are understandable. Here in LA it's all rumble from the jungle with cadenced inane rhyming similar to the insane rants from a monastery of retarded ghetto monks. Most of it quite hateful too.

Phil is a cutie and the tune, cute enough, but not one that I would ever remember.

by Anonymousreply 3901/20/2013

R39 spreading racist shit all over the board today.

Fuck you.

by Anonymousreply 4001/20/2013

r40, I applaud you for not rapping that slam.

I always forget how many monks there are on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 4101/20/2013

Not a "monk," but yeah you seem to be forgetting a lot of things.

by Anonymousreply 4201/20/2013

I think most artists make their money from concerts, not from album sales.

by Anonymousreply 4301/20/2013

He came out with a new CD and to promote it all he does is sing that same song. I like the song but why not promote other songs. I wouldn't buy a CD for one song.

by Anonymousreply 4401/20/2013

That song sounds like 100 other songs that have come before.

by Anonymousreply 4501/20/2013

Kara DioGuardi, former American Idol judge has written over 250 songs and has a net worth of over $25 million.
