[quote] OMG, the minute Frances Conroy opened her mouth I got the biggest grin. That was a hilarious performance, I loved it.
Absofuckinglutely. Frances Conroy deserves an Emmy for this performance. She was magnificent.
See, the difference between a Lily Rabe being Lily Rabe performance, and this Frances Conroy performance, is that she provided comedy and drama, without being campy. Her character was 100% believeable - and I have no idea where it came from.
Conroy usually plays quiet, demure, and soft-spoken characters, but in this episode, she acted the hell out of the part, and I was in heaven. It was so enjoyable to watch. She even topped Jessica Lange.
Although, Jessica also deserves an award for that captivating performance in the doctor's office. Her vulnerability and strength, and the way she went in and out between crazy and keeping it together, was really something to behold.
Ryan Murphy really has a GOLD MINE of acting ability with Conroy and Lange. These two ladies are superb.
Ordinarily, Quinto, Paulson, James Cromwell, Lily Rabe, and Joseph Fiennes would shine in their roles, but in this instance, they are eclipsed by Conroy and Lange.
Julianne Moore won the GG, but she'd better not win the fucking Emmy, because there has never been a more deserving winner than Frances Conroy. And Ryan Murphy had better submit this clip of Conroy as her demo.
I also give kudos to the production crew, who took the viewer in and out of Jessica Lange's head, with the close ups and the far out shots, and the overall "crazy" feeling, to give us an idea of what a mentally ill person really goes through.
This was one of the most well done episodes of ANY show that I've seen in a long time. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Oh, and seeing Evan Peters' meaty thighs and bubble butt in the tighty whities, didn't hurt one bit either!
