Warners Looking To Breed Gremlins Again

Bright light! Bright light! Our sources tell us that, in keeping with Hollywood’s mandated pop culture recycling program, Warner Bros. Pictures is negotiating with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment to reboot their 1984 horror comedy, Gremlins.

We’re also told negotiations of this sort have happened several times over the years, but making Spielberg’s deal always proved too daunting a financial prospect and his involvement might simply be a requirement for making the film at all, so don’t hold your breath. Having said all of that, our sources tell us that it might just actually come off this time.

This wouldn’t be something Spielberg would direct, of course – he only executive produced the original, with Joe Dante behind the camera – but it never hurts to have the Great Man’s name on your project. A Spielberg spokesman said that the appropriate executives were not available for comment. We’ll keep you updated…

Coincidentally my schedule just opened up!

by Anonymousreply 101/16/2013

That's weird. I was just looking up "Critters" last night. Rip-off.

They re-did the 80s to death in 00s. Enough!

Part of the magic of 80s movies is the animatronics, claymation and computer graphics. It is amazing how well the robotic operators did in giving the Gremlins emotions. If they do a remake I think they will use CGI for most of it because it's cheaper and more versatile. Which will make the remake very different from the original.

Will Howie Mandel do the voice of Gizmo again?

by Anonymousreply 401/16/2013

Jessica Lange as chair lift bitch, please.

by Anonymousreply 501/16/2013

The sequel 'Gremlins 2' is much better, it's much funnier and wierd.

Definitely not the sort of movie that should ever be remade, it was much better than it had any right to be.

Is Cates still acting?

by Anonymousreply 701/17/2013

Zach G. was a total crush of mine during the 80s and 90s.

He did this really bad movie where he's tied up in bed shirtless for half the movie... which made the movie worth sitting through just to sit, stare, and drool :)

by Anonymousreply 801/17/2013

Has he ever done any nudity, R8?

by Anonymousreply 901/17/2013

Not that I know of... that movie was the closest I think.

[quote]He showed his ass in some b movie...

Thanks, R12. Hopefully we can find out which one.

by Anonymousreply 1301/17/2013

I think it's the same movie All Tied Up

by Anonymousreply 1401/17/2013

He's a fat boy now, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 1501/17/2013

I can't seem to get into that link, R14

by Anonymousreply 1601/17/2013

Sorry can't link on my iPad. Try googling nude Zach Galligan...

by Anonymousreply 1701/17/2013

WHET to Zach Galligan? He just disappeared.

by Anonymousreply 1801/17/2013

I love Joe Dante.

R6 is right - the sequel is funnier than the original and has great actors being crazy. WHET Haviland Morris? She was terrific as Marla.

Zach naked ass screencap (looks kinda flat unfortunately because of the way he's standing)

by Anonymousreply 2401/17/2013

I'm available y'all to reprise my role as Ms. Deagle!

by Anonymousreply 2501/18/2013

Wasn't Sir Christopher Lee in one of the Gremlins films?

by Anonymousreply 2601/18/2013

Gizmo was just as cute

by Anonymousreply 2701/18/2013

Are your great-grandkids teaching you how to surf the web, honey?

by Anonymousreply 2801/18/2013

I'm not old, but CGI frequently looks like shit.

by Anonymousreply 2901/18/2013

The Warners Recycling Factory really needs to come up with some NEW ideas instead of constantly rebooting old tired shit.

by Anonymousreply 3001/18/2013

The same could be said of the entire movie industry, R30
