Oh, yeah. Such an improvement over the way they desecrated National.

It would be wonderful.
I still refer to Washington National as National Airport. I will NEVER call it Reagan National, and most everyone I know here in DC does likewise. We wince when visitors call it Reagan.

I lived most of my life in DC, R4, and I cringe everytime I hear that name attached to the airport.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||01/15/2013|
I know how you feel, r5
|by Anonymous||reply 6||01/16/2013|
Fuck John Foster Dulles and his airport too.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||01/16/2013|
I like the French Vanilla flavor.

Worked for us!

Same with Houston Intercontinental Airport, which was renamed in honor of George H. W. Bush. I hate calling it "Bush Airport" but admit it's less of a mouthful.

Will the FAA change SFO to MLK?
|by Anonymous||reply 12||01/16/2013|
That's not an FAA thing, it's IATA.
MLK is currently not in use as an IATA code, but I assume they won't ever use it owing to, well, MLK Jr.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||01/16/2013|
R12, I doubt it...
|by Anonymous||reply 14||01/16/2013|
I now see there is such a thing as an FAA location identifier, and it's often identical to the IATA code. So much for my attempt to enlighten.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||01/16/2013|
If they're going to name it after someone this the best idea.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||01/16/2013|
Why not? We have to put up with the National Airport having been named for that fuckhead ronnie reegin. Reagan not only got a complete free pass throughout his life, the republicans think he should be canonized apparently and shoved naming the National Airport after him down our throats.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||01/17/2013|
We've already got the Moscone Center so it would be great if they'd rename the airport after Harvey Milk.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||01/17/2013|
Will airlines from Middle Eastern countries with Islamic governments boycott? Will American Christian conservatives feel violated by having to land at an airport named after a "sinner"?
|by Anonymous||reply 19||01/17/2013|
New Orleans is still MSY (Moisant Stock Yards) and Chicago O-Hare is still ORD (Orchard).
|by Anonymous||reply 20||01/17/2013|
ElderGays know JFK will always be Idlewild.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||01/17/2013|
I've kind of had it with naming bridges, tunnels, airports and stuff after politicians. It glorifies them when really they are pretty much slime.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||01/17/2013|
Does this mean the planes flying in there will be limped wing?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||01/17/2013|
Tell me about the men's bathrooms. Will they be remodeled and expanded?
|by Anonymous||reply 24||01/17/2013|
If you capitalize everything but the "i" both gays and blacks (and black gays) will get something out of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||01/17/2013|
A much more deserving change would be in London, either Heathrow or Gatwick should be renamed Princess Diana International.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||01/17/2013|
R26, we loved you in the youtube video hearing the news with your friends. You're the fat one, right?
|by Anonymous||reply 27||01/17/2013|
NO!!!! SFO is iconic. It would be like changing LAX. Or JFK (which, I know, used to be Idylwild)
Milk International sounds stupid.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||01/17/2013|
R28 thinks that everything in the world is a branding session - she's the type who LIKES the made-up names of Japanese cars and would name her daughter Jizzelle because it's sooooooooooooooooo mellifluous.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||01/17/2013|
I completely agree r26 but, renaming an Airport after our beloved Diana doesn't do her justice. Her birthday, July 1st should have been made a national holiday by now. Needless to say, it's a travesty that it hasn't.

In LAX, there is the Mayor Tom Bradley International Terminal -- maybe they can rename one of the buildings for Milk so as to keep the iconic San Francisco name (even if it is in San Bruno).
