You GO, girl! -- Pope makes longtime "aide" and BFF Georg Gaenswein a bishop.

Pope makes longtime aide a bishop in St. Peter's

Updated 7:11 am, Sunday, January 6, 2013

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI has rewarded his longtime loyal secretary by making him a bishop in an elaborate ceremony in St. Peter's Basilica.

The pontiff and Monsignor Georg Gaenswein, a fellow German, embraced warmly. Benedict, 85, held up well during the nearly three-hour long service Sunday, which also marked Epiphany, a Catholic feast day.

Gaenswein, 56, has been Benedict's closest aide for years, and helped steer the papal household through an embarrassing scandal of leaked documents last year. A Vatican court convicted the pope's former butler, Paolo Gabriele, of stealing the documents from the papal apartment. Benedict has since pardoned him.

Goosing Pope Benny

by Anonymousreply 101/06/2013

Why was there no outcry last February when Pope Benedict created 22 new European cardinals because he said the church balance had shifted to Latin America, even though Europe was already vastly over-represented in the college of cardinals! Nobody bothered to say one thing about this most racist and bigoted of popes.

by Anonymousreply 201/06/2013

Actually, R2, 16 out of the 22 were from Europe, but I see your point.

by Anonymousreply 401/06/2013

The point is, from your link, there are 62 cardinals in Europe v. 35 in the Americas even though the Americas have fully half the world's Catholics. 11 in Africa and just 11 in Asia even though the Philippines has more Catholics than any European country. Outrageous racism. And it can't be blamed on history either, since every single cardinal has been appointed by Wojtyla or Ratzinger, the CIA-Nazi usurpers.

by Anonymousreply 501/06/2013

It's obvious that the European number will not be allowed to fall below 61 so that it will remain a European controlled church even though the membership no longer is.

by Anonymousreply 601/06/2013

These stories of the Holy Father are really becoming so "Godfather."

Pronounced GAY-org.

Yes but the European Catholics have money. The ones in Latin America, not so much.

Gaenswein is a pilot and skis like a champion. He's a hot daddy.

by Anonymousreply 1201/07/2013

He's a paid whore.

by Anonymousreply 1301/07/2013

good god, NARY!!

by Anonymousreply 1401/07/2013

What is wrong with r8? He seems like he might have something intelligent to say in response to r5's excellent point but then.....doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 1501/07/2013

These 2 need to be outed.

(The Pope and his bfriend.)

Think what a hullabaloo that would cause!

by Anonymousreply 1601/07/2013

It didn't make a hullabaloo when Paul VI was outed. It didn't make a hullabaloo when John Travolta was outed over and over and over.

by Anonymousreply 1701/07/2013

[quote]He's a paid whore.

I doubt he's paid - they take a vow of poverty, you know.

by Anonymousreply 1801/07/2013

[quote]they take a vow of poverty, you know.

No, "they" do not take a vow of poverty. In some religious orders, a vow of poverty is part of the rules. He is not a member of one of those groups. Please don't post any more misinformation, r18.

by Anonymousreply 1901/07/2013

[quote]I doubt he's paid - they take a vow of poverty, you know.

Ordinary priests and bishops don't take vows of poverty. They receive paychecks. Only members of religious communities (Jesuits, Dominicans, Franciscans, etc) take vows of poverty.

Common misconception.

by Anonymousreply 2001/07/2013

The pope is richer than Murdock and showers this strapping new bishop with $$$$, clothes, wines, etc.

r18 are you high??

by Anonymousreply 2101/07/2013

R8 has nothing to say. And there is no point in talking about the history of the church when all the cardinals were appointed by the murderous fascist usurpers Wojtyla and Ratzinger. The Catholic church ceased to exist in 1978, for all real purposes. As for the claim about right wing Catholics in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, well yes there are many. But in Latin America particularly, there are also many who are not right wing, even after Wojtyla's disgusting purges of "liberation theology." Obviously Europe today is more liberal in general than underdeveloped places, but Wojtyla and Ratzinger have also attempted to appoint only right wing shitheads as cardinals in Europe and North America, whereas they have been unable to evaluate the politics that easily or accurately in the Philippines, Nigeria, Mexico, and Brazil.

Did anyone see the "Christmas Message" of this hateful old bigot? Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men indeed! He declared war on us, and said that the Roman Catholic Church will never cease to fight against us. And who would have ever imagined the amazing magical mystical powers that homosexuals possess? We are not only responsible for our own actions, but we are responsible for all the evil on Earth, including the abuse of children by the Roman Catholic priests.

I say that we must not shrink from the challenge of this evil hate-monger. He has thrown down the gauntlet against us, and we must rise to his challenge and wage all out war against the Roman Catholic Hate Group and pedophile protection syndicate. If anyone has any information about any wrongdoing on the part of any Roman Catholic priest, they should publicize it in all due haste. If anyone is a baptized Catholic who has had sex with a priest, they should file a lawsuit immediately. Regardless of age, or consent, it is still considered a spiritual rape for a priest to have sex with a member. The shepherd diddling the sheep.

Only one step away from Cardinal, Gaenswein may have a vote in the next diversity vote for Poope. These dramas are so silly, they make the spiciola novellas appear as Shakespeare.

The Georgias

by Anonymousreply 2501/07/2013

He IS handsome.

by Anonymousreply 2601/07/2013

vow of poverty!!!!j

LOL!!!

You queens are so fucking dumb about the catholic church. Priests never take vows of poverty, only nuns do that. That is why most nuns are on SSI when they retire. The popess doesn't even pay FICA taxes on them so they can't collect Social Security like most old people can.

by Anonymousreply 2701/07/2013

Are these two queens so isolated that they don't know how ridiculous they look?

by Anonymousreply 2801/07/2013

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 2901/07/2013

with the age difference it makes him a defacto pedo. Wonder when the relationship started. Well, guess he did a beyonce and 'put a ring on it' by making him a bishop.

by Anonymousreply 3001/07/2013

I think it's funny that people go into high dudgeon to correct me on the priestly vow of poverty thing but don't mind my making a joke about Ganswein being a whore.

by Anonymousreply 3101/07/2013

He IS a whore, so why should we mind?

by Anonymousreply 3201/07/2013

The website linked at R14 is a Gaenswein fansite put up by a faghag in the U.K. He probably doesn't even know it exists.

by Anonymousreply 3301/07/2013

He sure puts the starch in my wimple!

Pope's secretary "Gorgeous George" on Vanity Fair cover

Reuters - 1 hr ago

ROME (Reuters) - Archbishop Georg Ganswein, Pope Benedict's private secretary, who has been dubbed "Gorgeous George" by the Italian media, is now a real-life cover boy.

The prelate has landed on the cover of Vanity Fair.

The cover on the Italian edition of the magazine shows the 56-year-old archbishop smiling, his blue eyes beaming, above a headline that reads "Father Georg - It's not a sin to be beautiful."

The magazine calls Ganswein "The George Clooney of St Peter's" and says it dedicated a cover story to honor his recent promotion to the rank of archbishop and as recognition of his growing power in the Roman Catholic Church.

A spokeswoman for the magazine said Ganswein was not interviewed for the article and did not pose for the cover photo, which she said was a close-up of an existing picture.

Ganswein, who has been Benedict's personal secretary since the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected Roman Catholic leader in 2005, was elevated to the rank of archbishop earlier this month.

A German like the pope, he was also promoted to the job of Prefect of the Pontifical Household, a position that will significantly increase his power as the pope gets older and frailer.

As prefect, Ganswein - already one of the most recognizable and powerful figures in the papal court - will arrange all the pope's private and public audiences and his daily schedule.

And, because he will be keeping his job as chief private secretary, he will have even more power in deciding who has access to the 85-year-old pope.

Vanity Fair said the article about Ganswein was a "close up profile of a particular monsignor". The magazine goes on sale on Wednesday.

It IS a sin to be the closeted lover of that craven old pope though....

by Anonymousreply 3601/15/2013

One sex video I DON'T want to see.

by Anonymousreply 3701/16/2013

Benny hands out Cardinal titles to friends. In New York if Franny Spellman thought a priest was cute, he was suddenly "Monsignor."

by Anonymousreply 3801/16/2013

Just the thought of the pope having sex with ANYONE makes me wanna hurl. GROSS.

by Anonymousreply 3901/16/2013

Do you we know what Benny looked like when he was 30?

by Anonymousreply 4001/16/2013

He looked like Uncle Fester.
